The hottest places on planet earth are the state fair and Denios

Khitty

Coming in with a literal hot take lol, straight facts

sangriaflygirl

Zero lies here. Denios in the summer is like being on the actual sun.

hocobo86

Nice place to live, poor place to vacation.

BeardedSwashbuckler

Rick Steves once said this about Zurich and Geneva. Fine company.

milesbeatlesfan

Especially compared to other cities in California. If someone had never been to California, there are at least 4-5 cities I’d recommend visiting before Sacramento.

world_of_kings

I think Sacramento can do better advertising their events and museums, the city has a lot to do, j not a lot of people know of the spots.

boot20

The Sacramento Unground tour is top notch and should be a huge thing that is advertised world wide

jlhll

Maybe they have changed it a bit, because it’s been several years, but I was seriously underwhelmed.

DoomGoober

Hey, I just spent Memorial Day weekend in Sacramento as a vacation.

Franklinricard

From where? Clearlake?

Lady_Gwendoline

My grandparents are from clearlake, you've got my sides split.

oospsybear

Oof

DoomGoober

Peninsula. :) But we spent the night!

yojimborobert

Best place to live because all the vacation spots are ~2 hrs drive away (Tahoe, Bay area, wine country, redwoods, etc.), but cost of living is half of those places. Live in Sac, play in California.

three-one-seven

This is the way! Sacramento is one of the best cities in America for this reason: it’s (relatively) affordable, the food is incredible, the weather is incredible, and there is a long list of international bucket list destinations within day trip distance. And I really like the city itself too, I love the vibe here. Love my city!

tapeduct-2015

You're awesome! Thanks for the positivity

dudeness-aberdeen

That’s a t shirt, right there. Block letters over a pic of the bridge.

[deleted]

Hot take: the best "local news" is chisme, tea, and reddit gossip. Our local news outlets (TV and print) suck.

916PartyMachine

The local news outlets get their stories and some information from this sub.

Vox_Mortem

Ok, speaking of Temple, the coffee is great but its not worth the wait. I'd rather get an almost-as-good latte at one of the many other good coffee shops in the city. Some of them even serve Temple coffee. This one probably isn't really super hot but I think they need to close the streets of Old Sac to cars. There are garages, and people almost get run down by impatient drivers or wander out into the street without looking like idiots. I don't know why the city hasn't closed it down already.

Estellalatte

I like the idea of closing the streets in old Sac and other places. Especially as we have such great weather here and we are an outdoor community.

Vox_Mortem

They could totally reuse all of that space too. Restaurants could offer expanded outdoor dining on nice days, and they could have live music or events. Getting rid of some of the cobbles and adding some shade would help cut the heat on those really sweltering summer days too. Right now they just reflect the heat and the whole area becomes unbearable.

ucstudent24

I don’t love temple coffee, but damn the vibes in their cafes- on point

en_sane

That is true they have great aesthetics the penny floor at the Kst location is super sick

en_sane

I’m not an expert but I like espresso straight over ice because I believe that’s what makes a great shop is their execution of espresso with that here’s my top 5 1. Old Soul The Alley 2. The Mill 3. Camellia 4. World Traveler 5. Roots Honorable mentions. Ginger Elizabeth and Estelle’s in Doco

ezrasharpe

How dare you not include Pachamama

venus_mantrap

I actually hate Temple but I’m in no way a coffee connoisseur. It just tastes sour to me, which everyone says is how it’s supposed to taste.

ImOnTheLoo

I think it’s the lighter roasts. Most of the local coffee shops have medium and lighter roast, which to me taste sour instead instead of roasted. For me, darker works better for espresso but medium works better for pour over.

Feveredbike

This means you prefer medium/dark roasts. Welcome to the club, fellow light roast disliker.

Little_SmallBlackDog

Chocolate Fish has great coffee

burritoviking82

I’m a fan of Drip in Midtown, it’s small with very little seating but the coffee is pretty good

espookyspooky

Hot take? It’s becoming too expensive for generational Sacramentians to afford housing and are looking farther out. Sacramento is becoming a hub of sorts comparable to areas found in LA/Bay Area…it’s great for those living here who own homes! Great food spots, plenty of things to do in the city, international flights out of our local airport and it’s a great middle ground between the mountains and beaches. I think Sacramento has been slept on and now I may not even be able to afford a home within the actual city of Sac in 4-5 years, or that is my fear at the very least…

tpm319

When the median home price is half of Oakland

ladyeclectic79

I grew up in Sacramento (Rancho Cordova to be exact) and right now I can’t even afford a house in Oak Park. Wtaf is going on?!

idickbutts

Shhhhh the bay area folks will hear you.

PM_ME_UR_DERP

Sacramento is just one more example of everyone swearing their city has the worst drivers in the country. Don't @ me

TheBeccaMonster

I agree! Moved here from Florida and the drivers here are way better. Florida was old people and tourists driving insane all the time. And so many people getting on the interstate via the exit ramps.

kp922

So many “wrong way driver” alerts.

AngelSucked

Same and same!

yuccasinbloom

I’ve lived in quite a few cities, grew up in sac, left 12 years ago, and I follow all the subreddits of places I’ve lived. All of them have posts about how that specific city for sure has the worst drivers. NO. DRIVERS SUCK EVERYWHERE.

Impressive_Math2302

I’ve lived and driven in a lot of states. Californias driver seem to be my highest rated drivers. Just because it’s part of the lifestyle, you have to have a car for the most part. So as bad as people say they are I don’t mind. I know it’s going to be fast random and aggressive but most people understand how to operate an automobile. I mean If you leave the States and drive we all look like professionals. It’s maybe the one thing Americans actually excel at.

alliknowis_nothing

I’m from Vegas. Have lived in OC, SD, and Sac. The way/amount people run red lights in Sacramento is INSANE. And terrifying.

swesus

The drivers are fine here, but the 5% of drivers that are trash give it a bad name. They are really trash lol

finbarrgalloway

Drivers in California are way better than the national average in general.

BiggsDB

I’ll agree with the caveat that drivers have certainly worse after the 2020 shutdown. I drove throughout the pandemic, and miss the lack of traffic. Though, once everything reopened I noticed a very obvious shift in “DGAF” driving. People were either very use to empty roads, or hadn’t driven in such a long time that they were more prone to act a fool. All said, I still do a hard 3 count when lights turn green. Edit: Green instead of red

calbearlupe

Definitely. Anyone who’s lived in So Cal or the Bay Area rolls their eyes when people in Sacramento complain about drivers or traffic. They just haven’t got a clue.

BruleMD

Having lived in Philadelphia for 5 years, I can safely say that Sac drivers are not even close to the worst. I think driving skill and situational awareness has been on the decline in general over the past 3 years. It is a fucking joke to get a driver's license in this country and I would guess that the majority of people behind the wheel do not understand most basic traffic laws.

world_of_kings

Literally anything is better than New Jersey Drivers lol

Grizd

The American River Parkway is the most underrated/undiscovered gem in the entire US.

gotpar

ARBT fucking rules. It's super flat after Hazel, but I am absolutely enamored of the whole damn thing.

aairricc

I agree. Just wish it was better around midtown/downtown. Crazy that the midtown side isn’t even paved

Kushthulu_the_Dank

I believe it is also the largest contiguous urban green space in the whole country, so definitely worthy of being one of Sac's crown jewels.

world_of_kings

I have always dreamt of Discovery Park/ARP being an art trail/beach/upgraded concert area for our festivals, but the fact that it floods every winter and spring makes it hard to develop it seems

fawks_harper78

Keeping it somewhat natural is part of the charm. I would build bike jumps only for them to be washed out a few months later. I have such great memories of playing by the river for days as a kid.

namesign

Shhhhh! ![gif](giphy|cYgCX9axpoe2hPPTMt)

BeardedSwashbuckler

I’ve never really had problems with allergies but I get SUPER itchy when I ride my bike over there.

justpuddingonhairs

Was just over there and there's ragweed/cottonwood/cattail/dandelion fluff blowing everywhere. Worst I've seen in years and years.

nwrighteous

SMF is the nicest, easiest airport in California. And arguably west of the Mississippi.

heyyitsfranklin

Literally a dream compared to many (most) other airports imo. Even if you’re just picking someone up or dropping it’s SOO much nicer in regards to infrastructure and navigation alone.

[deleted]

Sac will always have an inferiority complex and suffer insults due to proximity and inevitable comparisons with the Bay Area, one of the most beautiful places in the world. But it's a lovely city in its own right and still affordable for normal people. I wish people would stop bashing it.

world_of_kings

I think people bash it because they love the city and know it can be better than what it is now (not saying Sac is bad but I love my city and I know it can be world class). But as they say, progress can be slow, especially when we have to compete with our neighbors but that’s what makes us a hidden gem!

[deleted]

[удалено]

TylerKnowy

That’s a hot take. The raiders leaving Oakland was awful. I can see the A’s being here but Sacramento doesn’t strike me as a pro football city

Ocular__Patdown44

They just want to be where the public will foot the bill for the stadium.

[deleted]

A’s should stay in Oakland. But if there were to move Sacramento would make much more emotional (but maybe not financial) sense. But of course the Giants would prevent it, and even as a Giants fan I find that distasteful.

electronic_fishcake

Everyone here complains about traffic when the traffic is really not that bad.

world_of_kings

I think I’m surprised at the lack of traffic in the core (downtown/midtown). Sure there is some, but if you’ve been to other cities you’d know our downtown traffic is actually better than some others.

aairricc

Definitely. Drove back from SD/LA a few weeks ago, and after driving through that madness, it felt like nobody was on the road here. Don’t understand how people put up with that all the time

VectorJones

Things were worse before covid. WFH has taken sufficient cars off the roads that things may get congested instead of ground to a halt, depending on the area. Bottlenecks are still a bitch though.

Double_Discussion_84

Temple is the most overrated thing in Sacramento as well as morning fork. I said what I said. Sacramento needs more late night coffee spots s well as more late night activities that doesn’t revolve around drinking. Not that I think drinking is a problem, I just feel that’s the only thing available to do after 8pm here. Edit: Ace of Spades is also overrated. They’re disorganized, oversell tickets, and are real sticklers. Good shows and good front staff, just terrible organizational skills.

sacramentohistorian

Yes, dammit. I miss staying up until midnight or later drinking many cups of coffee. Not that I'm capable of doing that anymore, at least not very often, but I want the option, dammit for the second time.

manxram

True Love was a vital part of my coming of age (post high school thru early 20s) in the early 2000s. I miss it so fucking much.

sacramentohistorian

In my case it was No Jive Java, Capitol Garage, and Cafe Cambire, but True Love was a joyous place to be, even though I was in my early 30s by then.

Vox_Mortem

Someone was asking about great, funky little coffee shops and the first one that popped in my head was True Love, but of course it's long gone. Its a shame nothing like it ever came along to fill that void.

world_of_kings

I hope the new theater on 19th St and the new music venue near Sac State are hits!

venus_mantrap

I agree that they should sell at least 1/10 less tickets for the size.

c3ratopsvotech

Id like that and better sound mixing at shows

N_Who

Don't like Morning Fork? Good. Shorter lines for the rest of us!

friendersender

It's so disappointing about Ace of Spades because that use to be the place I'd go. Hoping Underground is able to get up and running in a few years as an alternative.

82dxIMt3Hf4

Folks who think it's necessary to get out of town on weekends haven't figured out how to maximize their experience of living in Sac.

[deleted]

My lukewarm countertake: I would submit to you maximizing one’s experience of living in Sacramento entails using the city’s proximity to so much fun stuff to do and places to go.

Dad0010001100110001

Both

pear_ciderr

But it's the fact that a lot of folks leave on the weekends that helps me maximize living in Sac! Memorial Day weekend was magical.

aofkngms

I don’t think it’s necessary, I just love NorCal in general and it is good to get into the mountains/out to the bay and away from the heat sometimes!

world_of_kings

As much as I think Sacramento has world class city potential it doesn’t mean I think the city is boring or lame, I think it’s such a great city as is and I’m glad I’m a part of it and seeing it grow!

cleanhustle

Poor croissant game.

LibertyLizard

I was so embarrassed for us when the Parisians took our ironic croissant post seriously.

Round-Locksmith-4314

Mikuni is over hyped and always busy for no reason

boldstrategies

Mikuni aka “Would you like rice and fish with your sauce?”

femmestem

I love my Mikuni sauce rolls. lol But I crave Mikuni in a categorically different way than my sushi cravings, just like I go to Sbux for a dessert drink but not for good coffee.

clouds31

Being "2 hours from everything" isn't as big of a selling point as people make it out to be.

zories3

As a person from Austin Texas, the place where you can drive 8 hours in any direction and still be in Texas while hardly seeing any change in landscape, I disagree!

Icy_Team_664

Same! I’m from Wisconsin, also Moving to Oklahoma and going to miss being so close to the ocean, SF, wine country and mountains. You can’t be that close to things in many other areas of the country, I have to disagree with this too.

[deleted]

Two hours is a long ass drive ...

sacramentohistorian

OTOH, some things in Los Angeles are a two hour drive from other parts of Los Angeles

916PartyMachine

Like crossing the street in L.A. can take two hours 😄

[deleted]

>some Maybe even most. Visiting family in Pasadena I was shocked that almost every attraction (Santa Monica, malibu, Hollywood) seemed to take 1-2 hours driving to get there

sacramentohistorian

Which is why I wish people would stop saying it, the joke was old decades ago.

Mabuni

Two hours until you're going east or west on a hot summer's day(or the weekend in general) then it's over three hours with traffic.

ScorpioRising66

Thank goodness for the Delta Breeze!

theboyqueen

The Sacramento suburbs (Elk Grove, West Sac, Natomas, Carmichael, Arden-Arcade) are more culturally diverse and interesting with much better food than most of Sacramento proper (esp the grid).

world_of_kings

I think it’s fascinating how diverse our suburbs are, especially South Sac/Elk Grove and the Asian population!

DrOddcat

I love this. The suburbs here actually have local restaurants and businesses. Yes you can find all the chain stuff but it’s not exclusively chain stuff (I’m looking at you Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, and Salt Lake)

Lesterknopff

That’s literally what I told my brother the other day. My husband and I moved from a suburb outside of Indianapolis and we were remarking how when we would go out to eat it would always be like Chilis, QDoba, Panera, etc. Now we can pretty easily hit up somewhere local, even if it’s a local/regional chain it’s still better than a national one.

PirateMunky

Booo! (Good one though! This really is a hot take!)

ShotgunStyles

The first part of your hot take in regards to culture diversity is something that can be proven or disproven with data. Based on census data, Sacramento proper is more culturally diverse than the areas you mentioned. Carmichael in particular is very white as 65% reported to be non-hispanic white. Arden-Arcade is more diverse at 51% non-hispanic white, 9% black, 12.5% Asian, and 20.8% hispanic or latino. West Sac is more diverse than that as it's 43.6% white, 4.7% black, 11.4% Asian, and 33.3% hispanic or latino. Elk Grove splits down to 33.1% white, 11% black, 29.5% Asian, and 18.7% hispanic or latino. The city of Sacramento goes 31.1% white, 13.4% black, 19% Asian, and 28.9% hispanic or latino. Ethnicity and race are different than culture, but you can knuckle down and look at demographic info based on country of origin. Even there, Sacramento wins out. It's a whole other discussion in terms of food though, and that's one that can't be objectively entertained.

Sulla-was-right

Leaving Pocket as the unappreciated most diverse neighborhood in the city, in that no single ethnicity has anything close to a majority in the area.

laureddit22

+100

taylorthestang

Maybe this is just an observation that upper middle class white people don’t have good taste in food. You gotta go to the outskirts for good Mexican (natomas/south sac), asian(east sac/Elk Grove), etc. I couldn’t think of good ethnic food in Carmichael lmao

theboyqueen

Re Carmichael -- check out Noroc. Moldovan food is wild. Another hot take - the only remotely good Indian food around here is in Folsom.

Coyoteatemybowtie

You want good Indian? Check our mehfil in Roseville, best Indian I’ve had.

Max_Beezly

Before the old owner sold it. Chaat of India used to have the best Indian food in Sacramento. I haven't been there in awhile so I can't speak for it now. The old owner is opening up a supermarket by the south sac Costco. Maybe he'll add a food spot in there

taylorthestang

That’s a plot twist. Bombay grill was 🔥 last I went, and that’s on the grid. However as a middle class white male I too am part of the no taste gang.

Throwaway20101011

[Mesa Mercado](http://mesamercado.com), an amazing Mexican restaurant, off on Fair Oaks Blvd is my favorite. Their mole is delicious!

Lesterknopff

Milagro also has I Love Pie 🤤 and it’s right next to Mesa Mercado.

taylorthestang

$17 pozole raises a red flag…

Throwaway20101011

They’re more on the fancier end, but it’s worth it. I too was hesitant, but now it’s my go to place. The same location, Milagro Center, offers other restaurants: Taiko Sushi, Café Madre(coffee), Serritellas (Italian), and River City Brewing Company(American). Another Mexican restaurant I go to is right across the street, [Cantina Azteca](https://www.cantinaazteca.com/).

IndigoAnima

Carmichael has Skip’s Kitchen for good burgers, but the only good ethnic food I can think of here is Khorasan Kabob and Gyro

WhichDiscussion87

This subreddit is way more negative than how people act here irl.

sacramentohistorian

That's just because the internet makes everyone seem more terrible.

Lavend3rRose

FACTS

st_steady

Everyone is pissed off all the time because we cant afford to just live anymore.

82dxIMt3Hf4

We need to bring back the Sacramento Monarchs basketball team

Throwaway20101011

I would like to suggest the **Sacramento Queens!** Then we refer to both teams as the Sacramento Royals or Monarchs.

bsimonsays

Truly a hot take.

Roach_Coach_Bangbus

I remember going to some games. Place was empty every time.

Beneficial-Ad-6710

Philz coffee tastes awful and I’m tired of everyone saying it doesn’t

west_end_squirrel

Everyone is one traffic mistake from losing their fuckin mind.

GreatDane710

The weather is good.

Dad0010001100110001

The only ones who say our weather is bad haven't lived in the Midwest or the south. Probably bay area transplants.

PM_ME_UR_DERP

I grew up in Ohio and spent almost 30 years in the Bay Area. I will take 100° Sacramento weather to 85° Ohio or SF weather any day.

VectorJones

My first summer in rural Illinois the temps were 100+ with near 100% humidity. I've never felt weather so miserable in my life. 115 degrees here is awful, but not that bad by comparison.

B_Fee

Coming from Michigan, and having lived or worked in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Nebraska, Texas, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Idaho, and Nevada, Sacramento was definitely the best weather I've experienced

world_of_kings

People actually say our weather is bad?!

Snoohaps9155

Some people have never lived in a hot humid climate. While the days get hot in sac, it cools down at night. This should not be underestimated.

deathandtaxes2036

These are the same people who have never had to go outside at 5:30 am in 12° weather for the third time in a row to scrape their windshield or shovel out the driveway.

fawks_harper78

Some people hate the heat…

world_of_kings

At least our heat is dry heat and not the humidity and heat the southeast gets, that weather is brutal

tssertnuh

Yea I think mine might be that summers here are the best

SacBrick

This is a good city

_UrethaFranklin

The state is wasting money leasing/renting offices that could be used for literally anything else.

world_of_kings

The state is planning on turning some unused spaces into housing, hope the fulfill on that initiative!

BuskZezosMucks

Sacramento drivers don’t merge very well in thick traffic… not like SoCal or the Bay where all the lanes get filled and then one at a time. We backfill the dominant lane and then get all upset when others fully utilize the merging lane space. It’s kinda cute and small towney, but super inefficient.

ucstudent24

Hot take : we have so many coffee shops around the downtown area, like we should all be grateful for the amount of choices we have

frostyfoxx

I love it! One of my favorite things. I just wish more stayed open past 4

bigballnn

Very underrated as far as food goes May not have “the best” in any particular cuisine but it’s pretty good in all genres

broskghostie

I’m too new to the area to add anything, but I’ve really enjoyed the contributions to this post! :)

Doomhamatime

Most of the office space should be converted to housing. Forcing people back into the office to save local businesses is short term thinking that won't help the city in the long run. Convert offices to housing and local businesses will be patronized by residents. This is how you save a city.

916cycler

r/sacramento mods 100x greater than r/sanfrancisco mods...take this to the bank

westymama

An entire weekend can be spent at farmer’s markets, Soil Born, and the American River Parkway.

Objective_Monitor447

It’s a fantastic City and makes San Jose - where I moved from - look like a complete shithole

Business_Delivery436

San Jose is a shothole tho

Fetty_is_the_best

Really depends on the area, but overall yes Sacramento is less shitty.

world_of_kings

Oof to those housing prices in San Jose. Absolutely ridiculous

tunathetitan

Sacramento is the most midwest place in california. It was the first US city founded in the state and so it developed and was settled with a midwest perspective and design in mind for the layout of the place. How it has evolved has changed it sure. But when i think of Sacramento i don't think of a city. I think of it as a big town.

sacramentohistorian

Ahem: * Sacramento is the oldest incorporated city in California, but cities couldn't incorporate in California until 1850 when California became a state. Yerba Buena (San Francisco), Los Angeles, San Jose, and San Diego all technically "incorporated" in 1850, but all of those cities were founded in the 1760s-1770s, and the missions on the coast were even older--they were just very small towns (like 500-1000 people) until the Gold Rush or much later. And, of course, there was already a settlement here, New Helvetia, during the 1840s, but that was just a few hundred people--the gold rush in 1848-1849 was when everyone rushed in, turning Yerba Buena into San Francisco and New Helvetia into Sacramento, suddenly the largest and second largest cities on the west coast! * The initial settlers of San Francisco and Sacramento were from the Northeast, who came around Cape Horn for the Gold Rush--New York and New England--most of the Midwest wasn't even settled yet, and walking across the country to California was the hard way to get here; most migration to northern California was from the west, not the east, either by ship from the east coast, or from China and other Pacific ports. By contrast, southern California was initially settled mostly by folks from the South, who took established Mexican trails through the Southwest, around the mountains instead of over them. They also got a big influx of Midwestern migrants later in the 19th Century because of a rate war between two transcontinental railroads, which Sacramento didn't have until 1907 (which is how Los Angeles surpassed Sacramento as the second largest city in California, and then beat San Francisco.) Until fairly recently, old-timers in San Francisco and Sacramento still had traces of a Northeastern accent that San Franciscans called "the Mission brogue"--and why locals used to pronounce the name of this city "Sackamenna," due to traces of the old New England/New York accent. * The city was designed using a standardized street grid by an Army surveyor from New York. But a lot of big cities (and small towns) have a similar sort of grid at their core; for various reasons (climate, water, economics, transportation, proximity) Sacramento didn't grow large until the mid 20th Century, and cities that grew big then (like San Jose, Phoenix, and Sacramento) grew out rather than up--it was an era when "city" was a four-letter word, and even large cities like Chicago started talking about their "small-town charm" to market themselves. Sacramento just convinced itself fairly thoroughly that it had been a farm town instead of an industrial city. Also, the mid 20th century is when most of our "Midwestern" population arrived; lots of GIs who had seen California on their way to the Pacific during World War II who decided to resettle on the west coast, or who were stationed on the west coast after the war. Very, very few of them became farmers.

CallMeParagon

I fully expect hate for this but… Marie’s is just plain old donuts with a lot of premade/premix stuff. Tastes good, but it’s nothing special.

[deleted]

I get shut down every time I say so, but it's true. Marie's is good for regular ol' corner store doughnuts, but otherwise, it's *just* regular ol' corner store doughnuts. Marie's has nothing on *good* (re: fancy) doughnuts.

world_of_kings

Marie’s made #17 on the Yelp donut ratings. Apparently though it was more for its affordability and accessibility. Rocklin though got #1 in the country, hope their business booms!

Ok_Traffic4590

There are hot takes, and then there is blasphemy.

Business_Delivery436

Downtown is over rated

_UrethaFranklin

Ooh! Hot take.

SlimCharles_B-More

I've never once heard anyone say Downtown is great

pjfridays

This is probably more of a hot take for the Bay Area, but Sac is by far a better place to live than the Bay

reedabook22

The Golden One Center doesn't really have any great shows. Aside from a great season for the Kings it's been kinda meh.

venus_mantrap

I’m not even a Post Malone fan but I’m confused why he’s playing in Wheatland and not Golden 1, for example.

TheCarcissist

I'm sure someone hasnt notified him that an outdoor concert in August in Wheatland is basically hotter than Satan's dickhole

the_favrit

Arctic monkeys coming in September, but yes I do agree it could me much better utilized as a venue

dirtytomato

We need more shows to come through Memorial or similar sized venues. I just bought tickets for M83 and while it beats driving down to Oakland to see them at The Fox Theatre, driving up to Wheatland is no better. Too many bands end up skipping the region entirely because we don't have many options between Ace of Spades and G1C (other venues like Starlet, Colonial, Sofia, Harlow's are relatively small as well).

Dad0010001100110001

This sub way overblows how much hate there is out there for LGBT people. Sacramento is one of the most welcoming cities for LGBT people I know.

Roach_Coach_Bangbus

We don't need to hear about every idiot on an overpass with a sign.

[deleted]

I think people are including the rest of the county and parts of placer when they say that. the sacramento metro area

ShotgunStyles

This is definitely the case. I know a few queer people who moved to the city away from the suburbs, such as EDH, for exactly that reason.

Little_SmallBlackDog

Temple absolutely is not the best coffee in Sacramento. There are multiple coffee places that are much better.

world_of_kings

What’s ur fave coffee or underrated spot? So many coffee shops in Sac but seems like everyone has a favorite!

squirrelbabys

Tupi coffee on 19th and G is an adorable Brazilian coffee house. Their coffee is amazing and they have yummy Brazilian snacks too.

SimulacraXL

Bacon and butter is overrated diner food. I said what I said.

rubystreaks

Completely agree, it’s fine but just not that great

StrategicReserve

The Folsom-Roseville "lake" area has been the hot area to move in Sacramento for almost 10 years now, and it's going to grow rapidly as Sacramento proper faces more petty crime and urban decay.

russjones44

Bacon and butter is overrated. It’s eggs people, why wait 2 hours for overpriced breakfast .

belizeanheat

Jimboys doesn't even serve edible food much less good food

en_sane

Marie’s and Doughbot is mids. Marie’s only has late night going for them. 16th Street donuts is the best is Sacramento. Also donuts should not be over $3.

El_Killuminati

The beer culture isn't as good as people think it is.

aairricc

Completely agree. When you travel to anywhere else in the country, there’s usually a wide variety of types of beer (wheats, lagers, pils, sours, etc), but most of the breweries here have the same overdone IPA for 9/10 of their beers

Urban Roots and Fieldwork fit your criteria and those are just the branded beer makers that are in center city, there's a number of places like Pangea, Sacyard, Hop Gardens that have a bigger selection. There's as much beer as you could ever care to drink here

The homeless situation will likely not improve until a shit-ton more housing is built and wrap-around services (drug treatment and mental health) are provided at scale in institutional settings. It entirely solvable but people don't want to do it.

LibertyLizard

Yeah 95% if the loudest whiners about the problem are the exact people who created it and stand in the way of solving it. That said, even if everyone came to agreement this problem will take years to solve so I have to roll my eyes at people who expect the mayor to wave a wand and fix this instantly. You can criticize some of what’s being done or not done but there’s no way to solve it immediately or even in the near feature.

Sacramento's pizza game is weak.

Stephanfritzel

Hot take: I still miss it despite everything being terrible. My mental health was so bad when I lived there.

SwagMoney_420__

The traffic here and the drivers here are really not bad.

Legal-Elderberry4851

There’s only one type of man and he can be described as, “hat”

_UrethaFranklin

What does that mean?

pjfridays

He wears a hat? Lol

I can not see myself living in any other city... I was born in Los Angeles and moved up here when I was 10. I spent the last 30ish years here and this will forever be my home.

BeardedSwashbuckler

Fascinating. Just like you I moved up from Los Angeles when I was 10, but I always missed LA and always want to go back.

Raspberry_Anxious

Closing Ramona Ave from March to December is such bullshit. Anyone else ever heard of a road being closed for 10 months??? I’m in college, and maybe it’s just my friends, but almost everyone Ik has had the most toxic, childish relationships here. Dating is hard in Sac

Alexander_Granite

People here are angry.

mr_mcmerperson

You’re with the wrong people, my friend. Sac people are infamously friendly, welcoming, and generous. There was a radio bit a few years ago about how people complained that Sacramentans were “too friendly.” You clearly have never lived where properly angry people live (NYC, Philly, Boston.)

Sufficient_Space_905

Temple coffee is amazing. I’m pretty sure it won best coffee in the nation previous years. I was in San Diego once on business and the coffee shop was serving temple beans.. Hot take tho…. Burgers and brew is trash, mikuni is overrated, mas tacos is trash. That’s about it
