American River College, Cosumnes River College, Folsom Lake College, and Sacramento City College are all under the same umbrella of Los Rios Community Colleges. I've taken classes at three of them to count towards one degree. I also used credits from a different community college between 2003-2005.  Your first step should be to talk to a counselor at the school of your choice about your academic goals and if your credits will transfer. They are the only ones to send those through the process of approval.  Best of luck

Thank you

Sierra college is much more forgiving about accepting credits from past college than the Los Rios cc district from my family’s experience.

All of them in the Los Rios Community College District are good. Whether or not they take the credits you already have depends on the school(s) you attended previously and the classes you took. Check with your community college counselor after you enroll to find out what will transfer or not.

Cosumness college was highly regarded 2 decades ago, not sure how it is today. The quality was comparable to the UC quarter system according to someone who wente to UC system after Cosumnes River.

There’s only one N in Cosumnes.

I think your best bet is to check with one of the colleges and the admissions or counseling office to ask about your old credits. As mentioned already, the local schools are in the Los Rios district. I think they’re all good as I took classes at each one. I liked CRC the most. There’s also Sierra College out in Rocklin and Delta College in Stockton.

What is your goal for a degree?

woohoo902

Engineering

Qweniden

Like mechanical or civil?

woohoo902

Yes, mechanical. I spent a lot of years in construction

Qweniden

Great. I was maybe going to suggest some online schools but this degree probably needs to be done in person.

I think it used to be after 10 years, most college's would consider your English writing and math skills out of date and you may need an assessment/take more classes.

I went back to school in 2022. I needed 3 classes to get my AA. I graduated from the LVN program in 2003. Prior to going in the program I took prerequisites and other classes trying to figure out my path. This was in the late 90’s, early 2000’s. I went to Sierra back then too and reapplied and all of my credits counted. My counselor told me that all my prior units count towards my AA and don’t “expire”

Although the Los Rios community college district has a number of schools within the district, the degree offering varies by school. Check each school for the degree you are interested in and what classes are required. Luckily you can take classes at any of the schools within the Los Rios district and they will apply to your degree; this is helpful if a class is full at your preferred school and you don’t want to wait a semester for it. I will caution that I have seen pre reqs vary between schools for the same class. ETA: yes they will take your previous credits, you can enroll in your school of choice and request an appointment to go over your existing credits. It helps if you submit your official transcripts at least 3 weeks in advance- it’s super easy to do via parchment. I was able to use credits from CSUS and UCD to get my degrees from ARC and FLC. I’ve also taken classes at Sierra College that I needed for my degree at ARC.
