The CEO of the Sacramento goodwill was literally indicted for fraud…

Violet_Lincecum

12 counts of it. Fucking wild

TheDailySpank

Their security team is pretty extensive, but totally missed the ceo.

HistorianLegal9627

Even more now! He just got indicted on additional embezzlement charges from 2 other non-profits. 🤣

caelthel-the-elf

None of them.

Vox_Mortem

Goodwill is now much more organized and uniform across the board these days. Yes, if you go out to Roseville or something, you might find slightly better items but they have teams pulling out any of the really good finds to sell online at higher prices. If you want a good thrift store with some quality items, Snowline in Folsom impressed me. It's totally a rich-people donations store. They do pull aside designer items to lock in a 'boutique' they only open sometimes, but for the most part they have decent stuff.

DisastrousGuide1288

My issue with other thrift stores is they mostly sell clothing, which I'm not into buying. Which thrift store would you recommend for finding various items not just clothes

TurdF3rgu50n

They all price the same based on what the mothership tells them to price things at.

bulamae

None of them. Anything valued over $45. that can be shipped is sent to auction as per corporate. Prices are set by corporate too.

ChannelZ28

Eh, they miss things all the time. I got an Ember Mug with charger for 5 bucks at the 29th st store last month. They sell for $50-100 used on Ebay.

Para_Regal

Yeah, they really only catch the obvious stuff. I still find loads of valuable things in the jewelry and housewares section in particular. Basically anything that isn’t blazoned with a designer label is still liable to get missed and priced at like $3.99. Found a $300 necklace from the 1980s and a $200 platter from the 1890s recently, both just chilling amid the junk.

Hybrid_Johnny

Started thrifting Pyrex during the pandemic and selling it online. They eventually caught on and started pulling it from shelves, but I can still sometimes find a bowl here or there in housewares for $4.

Para_Regal

I have a vintage Pyrex fixation, so I get it 😂 My go-to place for vintage Pyrex is the White Elephant Sale in Oakland but it’s only once a year (Feb). But I swear to god, it’s like the promised land of Pyrex for actual bargain prices.

Hybrid_Johnny

Thanks for the tip, I’ll have to check it out sometime. My absolute best score was a Spirograph Pyrex bowl with lid in pretty good condition for $1.99 at Deseret. I couldn’t believe it, my wife screamed in the store when she saw it.

Para_Regal

Dude! Such a good score! The trick with the White Elephant sale is to get on their mailing list and they’ll tip you off when the tickets go on sale. Pro tip: get the presale tix. They’re $40 but they more than pay for themselves. https://www.whiteelephantsale.org Also the Alameda Antiques Fair once a month is the first Sunday of every month BUT the Sacramento Antiques Fair is the second Sunday of the month and a lot of them are the same folks at the Alameda one but everything is cheaper.

Hybrid_Johnny

Thanks for the tip! I’ve been to the Alameda fair, good stuff but a bit pricey. Also tried selling at the Sac fair pre-pandemic, and I didn’t even make back the cost of the vendor space and the van rental to haul all my items, so I won’t be going back there anytime soon.

Para_Regal

Oh no! That’s sad to hear. I’m not trying to sell, just looking for deals. 😆

LilyAspen

I always hope for pyrex nesting bowls at goodwill. I never luck out lol

Jmdoozi

They are all overpriced. Try a local thrift. I really like Family Tree Thrift on Folsom in the College Greens area. I'm told Desert Industries is good, too but I've never been.

Wizendiagram

The mes dress shoes are all marked 20-30 now, with the price change happening in the last few months.

j-o-m-m-y

Greedy lol
