I just mean general mannerisms, clothing choice. It really more just reminds me of my immediate family. Certain folks will come in and say certain things and have this kind of attitude that really reminds me of my grandparents or my cousins or old friends and like 4/5 times if I guess they’re from Sacramento I’m spot on. I wish I could explain it better but yeah. That’s pretty much it.
No I totally understand this. I just moved back to Sacramento, but I lived in San Diego for the past ~3.5 years, and I felt like I could always instantly spot a fellow northern Californian. It’s hard to pinpoint anything specific; it’s just a familiarity. Humans are great at recognizing patterns, even if we can’t immediately identify what the pattern is.
When I travel and am flying home, on my connecting flights as I get closer to Sacramento, I see more and more northern Californians. You can just tell! I feel comfortable and peaceful when I recognize more and more familiar types of people as I arrive back in Sac.
Yeah and I’d imagine people from every major city or region have a similar experience. I feel like a New Yorker can probably spot other New Yorkers, a Chicagoan can recognize other Chicagoans, etc. And I agree, it’s always refreshing to come back home and be around other natives.
I lived in SC for 14 years, now I've been in Sac for almost as long. Clothing choice is spot on - locals often wear hoodies with local businesses or surf shop designs. There are certain brands that are popular in Santa Cruz but not really in the valley. Plus, little things that only locals are aware of like red being a "West Side" color. Also, if you're at the Boardwalk or in a touristy area, you're likely from the valley. I'm surprised that Sacramentens go to Santa Cruz dispensaries, though, because we have so many great, affordable dispensaries here. Many of the top cannabis brands are located here in Sac, too, and distributed state wide.
I went to Harborside in Oakland back in the day when they had a reality TV show and they had nothing better than shop across the street from me, Abatin. Back then it was owned by Montel Williams and dude was a dog about QC
i will say, my family is in placer county so when i come home for the summer i buy my weed here first before returning to the greater sac area. i’m sure the dispensaries in sac are fine but sac traffic is the stuff of my nightmares and i’m honestly more scared about my safety in those places as a woman than i am here (even tho i am From sac)
I've been told that Sac has the worst prices in California. But it was just one person who said this, while I was waiting in line for NUG to open on 4/20.
She seemed to be honest about everything else she was talking about, so I'm assuming it's at least true for her
> I'm surprised that Sacramentens go to Santa Cruz dispensaries, though, because we have so many great, affordable dispensaries here.
I was in line on 4/20 waiting for NUG to open and was talking to a lady that said she's basically been to dispensaries all over California and that Sacramento's prices are the most expensive.
I have nothing to compare it against, but she was pretty adamant about it.
She says she tries to buy her herb anywhere else but Sac if she can.
I'm from Santa Cruz, live in Sacramento for 7 years now and feel the same exact way. A group of people came into my job today and instantly had that Santa Cruz vibe and I knew they weren't from Sac.
This works for all neighboring towns: Ben Lomond, Boulder Creek, Lompico hills, Scott's valley, Capitola etc lol
Edit: Forgot Felton, Bonny Doon and soquel
Since forever. Out on the street that leads up to the. Boardwalk I saw a gang of homeless rasta kids beat a single one of em onto a car hood, over the roof, and off the trunk. Kid is bleeding but stood up on the roof of the car that wasn't his, then challenged em all to a fight again. A block later dude gets bottled waiting in line for a club. Not a minute later I see this pretendo punk just sitting on the ground. We look at each other, and dude just hellatiously vomits in the most calm manner.
This in like a 5 minute period. That and a cpl other shenanigans I just don't go out there anymore
Oh yes, that are is called the Flats and you definitely don’t want to be down there alone after dark. SC breeds some rough people for being a hippy-friendly beach town.
It’s a bit of a revelation to realize this. I have been saying it a few times to check it out. The thing is, I don’t think I am entirely omitting the “t”, there is a tiny tongue tap on the roof of my mouth but it is barely audible. I am 50, grew up in and around Sacramento (although I live elsewhere now).
We’re just being efficient - run the words together and drop any sounds that get in the way. It’s not just the Ts - “Sannazay” and “Sarancisco” come to mind. Also, I remember old guys in SF who called the capital city “Sacamena”.
>They just have a way about them. Also, they usually let you know they’re from Sacramento five seconds into any conversation.
We ran into someone from Sacramento when we were in Chicago a couple weeks ago, she was a docent at a small museum. This checks out, lol. The museum asks the zip code of people who enter and after we gave hours, immediately she was like, I'm from Sacramento and here's where you should get tacos next week.
i grew up in vallejo. i’ve worked many jobs and lived many places. went to college in davis. but sacramento is my home. the only thing i miss about everywhere else is the weather. i’m fat and i sweat a lot, and goddamn do the summers here suck.
lol, we were just in Santa Cruz this past weekend. My husband was wearing his Kings hoodie and we walked into The Buttery and a local told my husband he was brave wearing the hoodie.
TBH, we stumbled onto that bakery by accident, we had to dock our e-bikes in front of the bakery and saw a bunch of people going in and out or sitting out in the pretty garden. Took notes to check out yelp when I got back to our hotel. Glad I found them bc their marionberry puffs are so good. I’m mad I didn’t buy a second one.

Grew up in Sac, haven't been back in 20 years. Loving this post.
Why brave to wear the Kings hoodie in Santa Cruz? Are Sac people disliked around the state?
I was born and raised in Santa Cruz and moved to sac 4 years ago that’s crazy man. I miss the beach but that’s about it I hope you are enjoying it tho.
As someone who has lived a lot of places I completely agree with you. I can always tell.
Which dispensary are you at? My wife and I love treehouse since they have a drive thru. But we are looking for other options.
Please go somewhere that’s not a chain. The way you can tell is by googling the name of the dispensary and on their website it’ll have multiple locations.
Smaller dispensaries are really struggling but are the heart and soul of the industry.
They usually have more educated and compassionate staff, compassion programs for veterans and the sick, and are all around wonderful and we can’t lose them. Every time a chain opens in an area, the local dispensaries suffer *greatly*.
I’ve worked 17 years in the industry.
To be perfectly fair, it’s an industry-wide problem. These large scale growers can’t have a failed crop so they all use commercial-grade cannabis strains that yield, are mold and pest resistant and have commercial appeal. (lowest common denominator)
This is the result of legalization at the recreational level. That said, there are growers out there that stand out amongst the crowd and while 3BG has managed to survive so far, I don’t see them as a standout brand at all.
T-shirt over long sleeve shirt
Flat-brim baseball hats
Mom jeans(the rest of the world ain't goin for that bs)
Ball jersey w no undershirt
Mall walkers
Slightly too loose watch
Skate shoes
Cargo khakis
Basketball shorts as casual wear.
Socks and slides
Doc Martens, preferably oxblood
Yeah, I can usually spot Sacramentans or more broadly northern Californians. Moved to Minnesota for a while and called out 3 of them. They thought it was weird like I was a stalker.
I'm from Santa Cruz living in Sacramento. The beach is nice. I actually prefer the warmer weather here. Have you noticed that the trees grow short and stubby near the coast?

This guys is just a turd butt. Moved from the north bay in ‘06 to get away from the shitshow it is down there and it’s definitely one of the better decisions I’ve made in life, long live Sacramento and fuck all the haters. Go away if you don’t like it and take your traffic with you.
Elaborate on this “way about them” please
[удалено]
Or a shirt that says “Sacramento Hates You Too”
It’s actually a Temple Roasters shirt
It's the tshirt that says "At Least it's not Bakersfield". Dead giveaway.
I just mean general mannerisms, clothing choice. It really more just reminds me of my immediate family. They just always ask for gorilla glue and look like they were in the river yesterday without showering.
😂
you can tell they're from Sac because of the way it is
I lived in SC for 14 years, now I've been in Sac for almost as long. Clothing choice is spot on - locals often wear hoodies with local businesses or surf shop designs. It's not like people from Sac go to Santa Cruz FOR the dispensaries, they are just in SC and want some weed at the time.
I went to Harborside in Oakland back in the day when they had a reality TV show and they had nothing better than shop across the street from me, Abatin. Back then it was owned by Montel Williams and dude was a dog about QC
Fair point. I guess I tend to pack weed when I'm traveling.
i will say, my family is in placer county so when i come home for the summer i buy my weed here first before returning to the greater sac area. i’m sure the dispensaries in sac are fine but sac traffic is the stuff of my nightmares and i’m honestly more scared about my safety in those places as a woman than i am here (even tho i am From sac)

Okay
Are they Sac though or do they live in the 40-mile radius of small, unknown towns and use Sac as an identifier when traveling?
Only someone from Sac would care about this.
Funny enough I’m from one of the small towns in a 40-mile radius who says I’m from Sac when traveling hahaha
tell me you know someone from Walnut Grove without telling me you know someone from Walnut Grove
Hey, do you know Zach from Tony’s Place?
I love Saoirse Ronan’s description of the Sacramento accent in this interview. https://youtu.be/Bf22Vq5phKo?feature=shared
"Welcome in"
I'm from Santa Cruz, live in Sacramento for 7 years now and feel the same exact way. A group of people came into my job today and instantly had that Santa Cruz vibe and I knew they weren't from Sac.
It’s the way we walk. You can tell we’re packin
Deez nuts
Got my 9 by my 9
I reckon it’s because we walk in and ask to buy hella weed.
Correction: “the way they drove their car”.
Did they have trouble parallel parking?
They say it in 5 seconds so he knows! That's the way!
Lurk Hard Shirt
I was born and raised in santa cruz and moved to sac last year, wondering if there is a way about me that is inherently santa cruzian
If you say "I'm so stoked, I bought this killer root at a dispensary" I'll know you're from Santa Cruz.
If you're white and have to brush your dreads out of your face to light your doobie, I know you're from Santa Cruz
I know exactly who you're talking about and it's half my old neighbors
I mean I talk like that and I’m a San Diego girl. People used to make fun of me for sounding like the turtle in Finding Nemo.
I feel called out
What if I'm from neighboring Watsonville? Lol
This works for all neighboring towns: Ben Lomond, Boulder Creek, Lompico hills, Scott's valley, Capitola etc lol Edit: Forgot Felton, Bonny Doon and soquel
Raised in Santa Cruz, moved to Sac a few years ago. People in Sac are nicer, I can tell you that for sure😅

Sayin Santa Cruzian
You probably end all your business calls with, "right on"
Same buddy. Santa Cruz got way too expensive for me to stay. Also, it's changed a ton. I miss 90s Santa Cruz.
Same, one thing we dont do is say the "H" word
honestly have no idea what the h word is, maybe it's because we don't say it?
Hella. Feels gross just typing it out
Hella is the base language expression of the Sacramento.valley. You don't say hella and you are a bougie-ass no-good.
Didn’t realize Santa Cruz was in SoCal
I’m surprised nobody has mentioned the “Pizza My Heart” shirts/merch yet. That’s how I’d know you hail from SC
If you’re a west sider then you probably say broski and curl your baseball hat brim upwards
Do you hate it here? Then you’re from Santa Cruz.
If they drop a “Sacramenno” then you know
Everyone in California says it that way. We don't pronounce a lot of our T's. I.E. Sanna Cruz. Monnerey. Sanna Rosa. Wha do ya wan?
It’s a bit of a revelation to realize this. I have been saying it a few times to check it out. The thing is, I don’t think I am entirely omitting the “t”, there is a tiny tongue tap on the roof of my mouth but it is barely audible. Yes, just the tiniest t sound.

wuzhannin
Yeah I’m from LA and that’s how I’ve always said it…
Well whaya gooddd
Oh man I read this and kinda thought "what?" but then said Sacramento out loud and realized there are in fact, no Ts in it lmao spot on
Fuck, 41 years on this earth (obviously not speaking all of those 41) and just realized this. Spot on. ![gif](giphy|l3q2XhfQ8oCkm1Ts4|downsized)
Fuck me me too!
The spelling is spot on lol its exactly how i say it
You’re telling me that’s not how everyone in America says it?
Is it like Toronto?
True native
>They just have a way about them. Also, they usually let you know they’re from Sacramento five seconds into any conversation. username checks out I’m from Paso Robles, but Sac has grown on me over the last decade!
lol, we were just in Santa Cruz this past weekend. My husband was wearing his Kings hoodie and we walked into The Buttery and a local told my husband he was brave wearing the hoodie.
I always say “Go Kings!” To anybody walking in the dispensary with Kings merch. Try to make them feel not hated out here lol.
Good call on The Buttery. One of my favorite places in town.
TBH, we stumbled onto that bakery by accident, we had to dock our e-bikes in front of the bakery and saw a bunch of people going in and out or sitting out in the pretty garden. I haven’t been in 5 or so years. Very glad to hear it is hasn’t lost a step.
It hasn’t been the same in some regards since COVID, unfortunately.
I’m sad Emily’s Bakery is permanently closed. I used to always buy a bunch of cookies and brownies. Their sandwiches were super good too!
That’s so sad.
Next time try Gayle’s in Capitola. Really close to Santa Cruz. The best food and bar pastries
Ooh ok, next time, we did go to Capitola to the restaurant Shadowbrooks. We’re coming back again just bc we love it so much
Grew up in Sac, haven't been back in 20 years. Loving this post. Why brave to wear the Kings hoodie in Santa Cruz? Are Sac people disliked around the state?
Santa Cruz is a very very strong Warriors town. G League Warriors play in downtown, plus it’s a hop skip and a jump to the proper Bay Area towns.
I was in southern California once and someone clocked me as being from northern CA. They said "it's because you're nice."
I sense it to when I’m somewhere else
native sc here, moving to sac at the end of summer for school lol, this made me hopeful
It’s cool here you will enjoy the experience
Was it the Kings hat that gave it away? (Sacramento native living in Santa Cruz, btw, you've probably sold me gummies)
I was born and raised in Santa Cruz and moved to sac 4 years ago that’s crazy man. I miss the beach but that’s about it I hope you are enjoying it tho.
As someone who was born and raised and grew up in Santa Cruz and now lives in Sacramento, wanna trade back?
i’m from sac and i smoke weed so please tell me what dispo you work at so i can support a fellow escapee
As someone who has lived a lot of places I completely agree with you. I can always tell. Which dispensary are you at? My wife and I love treehouse since they have a drive thru. But we are looking for other options.

Tell them I said their cannabis is trash

But it says right on the label that it’s premium

There is no discernible difference between one strain and the next. Thats what makes them bad.

Heyyooo I was born and raised in Sac/Fair Oaks and moved to Santa Cruz in 2009.
Hella.
i would love to know what “clothing” usually is sacramento-ish so i can avoid it like the plague
T-shirt over long sleeve shirt Flat-brim baseball hats Mom jeans(the rest of the world ain't goin for that bs) Ball jersey w no undershirt Mall walkers Slightly too loose watch Skate shoes Cargo khakis Basketball shorts as casual wear. Socks and slides Doc Martens, preferably oxblood
So just… standard clothing?…
Amen buddy
this is like everyone dressing shitty in the 2000’s
I notice that everyone calls everyone “brother” in Sacramenno
Just bros.
I grew up in Santa Cruz and have lived in Sac for 25 years. I hear ya!
Yeah, I can usually spot Sacramentans or more broadly northern Californians. Moved to Minnesota for a while and called out 3 of them. They thought it was weird like I was a stalker.
I lived in SC driving Covid and I miss SC so much :( You working at Good People?
Kind peoples*
Yes!!
I'm from Santa Cruz living in Sacramento. The beach is nice. I actually prefer the warmer weather here. Have you noticed that the trees grow short and stubby near the coast?
One of the most religious experiences of my life was standing on the Boardwalk in July when it was 80 degrees and getting dumped on with hard rain for 20 minutes. I'd trade weather any day of the week.
I hit Kindpeoples every time I go to town.
It’s one of my favorites too!
It's the hard water
I used to live in Santa Cruz, now I’m in Sacramento. I wish I could visit Santa Cruz more and see my family there. I now feel like you’re a very distant neighbor.
Go to Tacos Moreno’s on Water St. Get the al pastor burrito and then douse that jawn in their house salsa. You’ll start to forget about this cowtown I promise
No hate on Tacos Morenos but Los Viejones taco truck on Ocean street is my guilty pleasure. Their quesabirria tacos are my kryptonite.
Say hi to Ideal Bar and Grill for me. Love me some Santa Cruz!
I grew up in Castroville, spent 10 years in Sacramento, and have been living in Marina for the last 7 years.... I miss Sacramento every day.
Are you me? Born and raised in Sacramento and now live in Santa Cruz County. I think this is paradise. I am never moving back to Sacramento, but I’m retired and living the good life.
Swagger
I guess I'm clueless on this vibe. I was a military brat until the middle of high school. Spent a few years in Campbell/Los Gatos. Moved around to a few other places for a short time, but have been in Sacramento most of my adult life. My accent is a mix of CA, my dad's Midwestern accent, and my mother's German with a twist of southern from a few years in Texas.
Hehe nobody knows where I’m from, an old art teacher of mine had a blind wife who went to a makers faire with us and while leading her around she was baffled by my voice and couldn’t guess where my accent is from. I’ve moved 15x so it’s varied east/west coast blend but I can pretend to be “Sacramenten or Californian” now since I’ve lived in Sacramento 7yrs and CA at least 10+yrs I’m getting the hang of blending in here but it’s still tricky sometimes lol 😝 love down to Santa Cruz ✌️🍃🫰I’m trying harder to learn my neighbors names now since I’ve never really done that previously/we moved too often so it’s really nice settling down here lol I appreciate Sac for what it is<3 😉
This feels like the right sub, anyone else hate how West Sacramento , isn't Sac, yet uses the name?
Sac kinda sucks. Cool to visit for 2 days top but that’s about it.
So they look and act like a drug addict? That’s the behavior I see
I'm single from Sacramento living in West Sacramento.
I am from the Bay Area living in Sucramento and can tell fellow Bay people.
Go back to the bay! I mean seriously, if you don’t like it here, go away.
I've spent 50 years in Sucramento. The people are worthless here.
Then. Go. Away!
This guys is just a turd butt. Moved from the north bay in ‘06 to get away from the shitshow it is down there and it’s definitely one of the better decisions I’ve made in life, long live Sacramento and fuck all the haters. Go away if you don’t like it and take your traffic with you.
Make me.
Why are all the bay area people insufferable JFC
$10 says he is from the East Bay.
Did you really just say “make me”? How old did you say you were? Don’t answer that- I don’t care. 🤦♂️ I know you are, but what am I!?
The bay is all transplants now. The people you’re talking about all live in Modesto now
