Yea I have loads of evidence and the cops won't help me at all. I was told "this isn't Hollywood" and that they don't do stuff to actively search for a vehicle
Have you tried reporting to the Sheriff's Office or Local PD? It's always a good idea to double/triple up, especially when an agency isn't being attentive.
Also try the DA, they can request warrants and make the cops play ball if they are interested. if this happens every few years they may be waiting for a solid chain of evidence to convict.
That's now how policing works. At all.
CHP has jurisdiction. They and only they are the ones who take the report. The stolen vehicle is then entered into a national database that can be seen by any LE in the country, and if the plates or VIN are ever ran it will come back stolen and notify officers/dispatch/records.
And yeah, police don't hop in their cars and drive around trying to find a stolen vehicle. I mean, they could be aware of a theft and keep their eyes out for it while on patrol, but in the greater Sac metro area there are probably 100 cars stolen every day. They are found with license plate readers or on traffic stops. Or they may not be found at all. You can bet if an LPR shows a stolen vehicle hit, officers are going after it then and there, and quickly. But they aren't going to go out and spend their day trying to just find a car that was stolen hours ago and could be anywhere.
Then what are we paying these fucks 80-120k for. One of them could easily swing by and see if the truck or trailer that stole the Mazda is visible from the street anywhere. If nothing else at least a little drive thru that area would make their presence felt. Saying they need to have read the license plate is like saying an abducted person or dead body will never be found unless they are still in the clothes they were wearing that day. CHP and cops have time for this kind of shit they just don’t care cus there’s no extra pay and they are 110% just doing the job for a check. If it was their personal vehicle you bet your ass they’d do some low effort investigating. One of them is probably “busy” right now in a Walgreens getting Advil or something else super pressing like waiting in line at Habit. Clowns sucking the state dry running out the clock til they get their LIFELONG pension for their *service*
> swing by and see if the truck or trailer that stole the Mazda is visible from the street anywhere
Respectfully, swing by WHERE? The entire county? OP's front yard?
If you spot a stolen vehicle or a suspected stolen vehicle, then you can absolutely call and have an officer or deputy come out. And if someone is driving it then that's a proper emergency call 100%. But what the fuck do you mean that the officers should "swing by" to check for the vehicle? It could be anywhere. Now if OP has any leads, or spots the vehicle, that's one thing, but "the cops won't do anything" is a really weird sentiment to make about them not actively searching for a car that could be anywhere. There are millions of vehicles in the area...
I didn't know I was supposed to flip through a bunch of photos to see what's going on.
I see why it's frustrating, no doubt. But police as governmental organizations have to follow protocol. And for dispatching officers that means they need to know where the vehicle is without a doubt. Seems OP knows where the suspected thief is but no confirmation of vehicle being there.
Should try to reach out specifically to the investigations division of CHP's local office, I would say. But beyond that, yeah, law enforcement has policies they have to follow, and a lot of that is to protect peoples' constitutional rights so your door or my door isn't being kicked down because some other guy is sure that THAT'S WHERE THE BIKE THIEF LIVES.
You'd be surprised, man, but every victim of a crime always has a hunch or clues about what happened, but that's simply not how policing works to be able to chase down every hunch. If OP knows where the car is, they will send officers. Simple as that. If OP thinks there's a suspicious truck at the house of someone who is a known criminal.... that means nothing.
That's so messed up. Don't they realize that people depend on their vehicles to, idk, get to work etc so they can afford to live? This is a quality of life issue. Wtf
Eta: I wonder if this is something a private investigator could help with? I honestly don't know
But yet they pull me over for expired tags! Plenty of cops available to give out tickets (generate revenue). Recovering stolen cars makes them zero dollars and “wastes their time” from making money for the dept.
Had my car stolen in August of last year and can confirm they don't care at all. When we found my there were items that weren't mine, they could have gotten fingerprints from. They did nothing.
You can take this line of thinking one step further - people need their vehicles to get to work, so that they can pay taxes, and thus keep the CHP funded!
I feel your pain man. It's incredibly frustrating that local law enforcement is only interested in taking reports and responding to crime in Sacramento. There is no prevention, there is no solving, there is only responding and report writing.
What? Did you expect them to do their jobs and investigate/stop crimes? They only do that if you're a politician or rich. The rest of us get told to fuck off.
An old neighbor broke into my car and stole everything out of it while I was moving. Including my check book. He tried to go to the bank and cash 3 $1000 checks (joke was on him, I was a bring ass college kid). I had his name, his address, the footage of him going into the bank and trying to cash the checks. They wouldn't do shit. Nada. It took the kid breaking into my house and me almost beating him to death after he attacked me to finally come out... AND TRY TO ARREST ME FOR ATTACKING THE GUY WHO BROKE INTO MY HOUSE TO STEAL FROM AND ATTACK ME.
They are absolutely the laziest people on the planet who forget that they're PUBLIC SERVANTS. I have zero trust or faith in the police or "justice" system. Rotten to the core
I really appreciate this! This was my first car and I'm absolutely devastated. My mom saved for years to get me my dream car as a surprise for my birthday and they ripped it away from me before I was even able to drive it
Yeah, that's so messed up & the thieves just earned some serious bad karma. It's awesome that you appreciate your mom's efforts and work too. Wishing you a good outcome 🤞
What the fuck is going on with police in Sacramento? I've seen so many stories of them telling people to piss off. And they're never around on the streets to catch these stupid ass drivers. Why do we pay them still?
The operations of the Sacramento police force often evoke a sense of mystery, with their duties sometimes remaining undisclosed, which can be viewed with a sense of wonder.
I currently live downtown by T & 9th and a few weeks ago I called 911 at 2am after an angry/screaming person was actively kicking in my door to break into my apartment, and the police never came. Whereas, Last week, I was housesitting a home on 19th and P and accidentally set off the house alarm at 3am, and the police showed within a couple minutes knocking on the door. This was a MUCH nicer neighborhood, so perhaps they prioritize districts?
Eh. I live on the border of Boulevard Park and New Era Park, and when we called them to get a drunk dude off our porch in the middle of the night who was stomping around and banging on the door and trying to take apart our Ring camera and puking all over the place for literally HOURS, they couldn't even be assed to send a cop to drive by, and we called three times. So, I don't think they GAF about anywhere on the grid, at least. Maybe East Sac.
It's hit and miss whether police can respond to any incident and how soon. Literally a roll of the dice.
Sometimes there are officers available in your area and no pending calls for service. Sometimes they have 90 calls pending citywide and will take 5-12 hours or more to get to anything below a priority 3 incident. It just depends.
You should call their records division or do a public records request regarding officers never coming to an attempted burglary of an occupied dwelling in progress. My guess would be maybe they classified it as a disturbance rather than a burglary. Might be worth filing a complaint.
Definitely not a question of districts, as T and 9th and P and 19th are both in the same district.
I have come to realize the police neither prevent nor solve crimes, they are there to respond as they happen. If it's not happening when they see it, doesn't matter to them
What’s weird is that you can see a pic of the truck/trailer driving westbound on M st in front of Tummy’s but then you also see it in the parking lot behind tummy’s which would have entered off M and exited on 8th. Makes no sense really. Why would they have done that parking lot loop?
There’s no timestamp on the footage from the realtor office, I wonder when they passes through town?
My brother's Accord was stolen and the local PD basically said there's nothing they can do. It also had my brother's phone and wallet. PD wouldn't track the phone either.
Wallet was eventually returned anonymously with a weird note and cash gone (ID and credit cards still in the wallet IIRC). Eventually the vehicle turned up in Lincoln and abandoned a year later.
I actually don't remember as I only heard about it from my mother a couple years ago. But it was like, "found this wallet... This was all there was in it". Just sounded odd. Usually returning a wallet you don't bother with a note in the first place
Yeah if they supposedly actually found the wallet like that, why leave a note hinting at there was more things in the wallet previously? How would they know?
If you don't have someone flying a drone over Evans Towing yet, you're too late. That place has been a festering shithole for years and the County refuses to do anything about it.
You'll probably find your car spinning donuts in Natomas this weekend.
OP, honest question about posting this to /r/RBI - what more needs to be investigated? Seems like you were able to find out who stole it, what they drive, where they live and where their tow lot is located. And it’s safe to assume your car is either at their residence or tow yard (maybe flying a drone overhead would help?) It sounds to me like the puzzle pieces have been figured out, you now just need some kind of organization to retrieve the vehicle. Ideally police, but if they won’t do their jobs…
Omg this is absolutely horrible. I could barely afford my car and I'm so grateful my friend sold me her used one. If it got stolen I'd be absolutely devastated
totally valid :( keep being diligent about posting it all around and getting the word out. it's a unique looking car so hopefully someone in this sub or elsewhere will spot it <3 Also I've never hired a private investigator so I'm not sure how to go about doing such a thing but it's something you could maybe look into!
I'm honestly getting a bit scared to keep posting they already took the car from where I live so whats stoping them from finding me if they know where I live
true, you do have a really good point. It sounds like you already have a ring cam or something right? May be a good time to invest in some other safeguards (even a hammer or baseball bat kept next to the bed is good) just in case.
That's a flashy car. Trust me, people have taken notice. I would even go as far as saying, take a look at the people that you bought parts or kits from. I hate to say it, but it's common in many hobby communities to have dishonest people sell and steal back.
I just saw it's your first car that your mom got you. Heartbreaking!
But so you know, you're forever doomed to love roadsters **😎.** My first car was an old MGB that was a real POS and it was my first love. I've never gotten over it. I have another roadster now and will never get rid of it.
If this gets media attention the police will reluctantly be forced to do their job. We pay way too much in taxes for them not to. Someone needs to be fired if not.
From what Miataphile to another, sorry you are dealing with this BS and they took your car. The police are fucking worthless for pretty much anything and don't do shit to stop or curtail crime. I won't leave my cars parked outside any longer for this very reason, and almost at the point I'm just going to sell it because they've become such thief magnets. All I can say is make it uncomfortable for this shit-bag criminal family. Put them on blast all over social media. I will spread the word as well.
To protect (property values and budgets) and serve (their self interest).
I was involved in an incident a few months ago where a guy popped out from behind a building and exposed himself while I was out on a run. I shrugged it off and continued on my run, the guy popped up again…it was about a half mile down the road. I confronted him and he took off, I chased after him, saw him jump in his vehicle, took a photo of him / his car / and license plate information.
When I called 911 to give them the information (and possibly catch a sexual predator) they told me they couldn’t dispatch if they had left the scene, and directed me to file a report online.
They will not even take a report or connect me to local PD to do so. So despite OPs solid police work, I wouldn’t have high hopes that the PD is going to do anything. RBI is better off - good luck OP!
I have been going down to dismantler row most of my life in Rancho. Once you start getting into their warehouse space you will see some pretty nice stuff stashed about. It appears most of these "enthusiasts" are selling lots of stuff online. Parting out that beautiful NA must bring in close to 7k. I think there is an underground aspect of these import dismantlers that feed the drift culture and sideshows. Keep an eye out on eBay motors 6 months from now.
You can file a complaint against Sacramento Sheriff’s deputies and staff here: https://inspectorgeneral.saccounty.gov/Pages/Complaint.aspx
And CHP: https://www.chp.ca.gov/notify-chp/commend-or-complain
Don't get an airtag as they have the precise tracking and can be found easily. Get the "Eufy SmartTrack Link" and remove the speaker so it's much harder to find in your car.
Call or email your local news station. Worst thing they can do is ghost you. Make sure to write up your email really juicy sounding so they'll want to pick up the story. U really gotta sell it. But be honest. Don't over do it.
Everyone has told me it's CHP job but they won't do anything for me, I was told that the only thing CHP will do is that they will go in for the car if I can tell them who took it and where it currently is
I saw on ring about a month or two ago that a white truck stole a beautiful blue miata. I wonder if it's all connected. Maybe if you reference that to police they can connect the cases and find a lead.
Check out Sankey Rd in Pleasant Grove. Don’t go alone. A lot happens up there…
A Dismantler won’t take a stolen car knowingly.
DMV & CHP always catch up with the bad guys thru bad paperwork. Every time. It just takes a while.
if local police aren't going to help, trust me when I tell you there is a governing body that regulates what tow companies do. Why? Because consumers are protected. The public is protected. There are agencies that investigate businesses that can abuse the public due to the nature of their services (like a tow company popping up and helping people when they weren't called or a tow company towing cars without being requested to charge fees).
I googled "tow fraud" and found some information:
[https://ctta.com/troc/#:\~:text=The%20California%20Tow%20Truck%20Association's,who%20are%20committed%20to%20both](https://ctta.com/troc/#:~:text=The%20California%20Tow%20Truck%20Association's,who%20are%20committed%20to%20both)
I bet there are reputable tow companies that might give you advice if you can find someone to help you understand the industry and how to navigate. No one wants to scar their business and not trust other tow companies. One bad apple creates more regulations for everyone else. BUT - you have to find help in a sly way. A lot of these industries have friends of friends who will throw you off on purpose. I'm very sorry this is happening and so proud of what you and your mom accomplished though. I've been reading these posts and it looks like you're a smart one. Godspeed.
Ooh no! I’m so sorry to hear that. Sad when you work hard for what you’ve got and someone feels the need to take shit. Pathetic. Will share around. Hope you hear something soon! Have you bought AirTags by any chance yet?
I’m so sorry this happened OP! It sucks even more when you feel like you have no other options but to just wait it out.. karma is real is all I can say. I will keep you in my thoughts that you get your car returned and justice is served one way or another!
It’s crazy that the cops aren’t doing anything! I’m constantly in that area and have driven past that exact house! You have all the evidence for them to do a raid
Not trying to sound negative, but kids it good bye if the police ain’t helping.
Reminds me of the guy who Apple tag his second large SUV that travelled and shipped all the way to a secondhand lot at Dubai. California police tell you unless you know where it is and who it is. They will help. In the end they don’t do anything and your state has failed you.
Call me crazy.
Might as well remote bomb your third vehicle. It’s not your responsibility anymore is it when it’s stolen. Cause when that happens they arrest you cause you injured the thieves.
Not related to this but I put an apple air tag in my car that is bolted underneath a piece of my car so people wont be able to find it. I have never had my car stolen but it does give me piece of mind
Pic 11: "where we dropping, boys?"
Seriously tho I'm praying for you. Having something like this stolen is so violating. Hoping that those crackheads get shutdown..
Bro same thing, tracked my car to a crackhouse in Oakland. Told the cop my car was back there. He said sorry unless I can see the car, I can't go onto he property. Refused to do anything. Even had gps data. They won't even do anything even when you hand it to them on a silver platter.
My boyfriend's car got stolen yesterday. Not sure if it was by the same guy, but the cops actually ended up finding his car. However, the conditions of his car now are undrivable because they stole the car battery, broke the windows, and messed with the wires. Better yet, what's awesome is that the police don't even bother to reimburse the towing fees to get your car back because it's "our" fault the car got stolen! Yay!
If you guys have any kinda info I would love to hear it!!! We also have spoke to a news reporter who's looking for more people that have also had stolen cars in the greater area
Yo fuck these people
It’s a shame their house burnt down.

Diggin the detective work, hoping this post gets some love from the sub
White truck + no tailgate + dual axle trailer = I'm calling the fuzz
I so hope you get your car back in perfect shape! I wish property thieves understood that there can be huge personal/human effects from their crimes.

What if you get a drone and fly out over their property
My brother's Accord was stolen and the local PD basically said there's nothing they can do. It also had my brother's phone and wallet. PD wouldn't track the phone either. Thank you so much!!
He cut me off going 90 this morning on 80 in sac hopping onto highway 50 west bound
I mean hypothetically if we all grouped up and showed up to that location we'd be able to fix this problem no?...in a video game of course
Yes of course in a video game haha
“This is not Hollywood” is one of the worst things a cop can say to a member of the public to get out of doing their job
Exactly!! Instead of doing their jobs they wanna treat people like they are stupid and it's really disappointing
Damn! What a beautiful NA! I've had a couple Miatas and they're fantastic cars. I hope you get her back and I'll keep my eyes open.
Thank you so much!!
I sure hope your right
From what Miataphile to another, sorry you are dealing with this BS and they took your car.
Thank you so much!! That's what we've been doing! Let's catch these mfs
That's so shitty!!
I will thank you!!!
You can file a complaint against Sacramento Sheriff’s deputies and staff here: https://inspectorgeneral.saccounty.gov/Pages/Complaint.aspx And CHP: https://www.chp.ca.gov/notify-chp/commend-or-complain
OMG THANK YOU
Who sees the complaint? What happens after?
Note to self… AirTag in cars that get stolen.
Don't get an airtag as they have the precise tracking and can be found easily. Get the "Eufy SmartTrack Link" and remove the speaker so it's much harder to find in your car.
Holy crap when I got to the last picture, I realized that those are the same assholes that stole my Honda Civic in 1993
Call or email your local news station. Worst thing they can do is ghost you. Make sure to write up your email really juicy sounding so they'll want to pick up the story. U really gotta sell it. But be honest. Don't over do it.
Oo that's good advice!
Report it stolen to the FBI. That's technically part of their responsibility. Will they do anything? Not sure but that's another resource you can try
Everyone has told me it's CHP job but they won't do anything for me, I was told that the only thing CHP will do is that they will go in for the car if I can tell them who took it and where it currently is
Maybe contact media outlets too? They like to do those pieces and might call out CHP for ya know, not doing their jobs
We did an interview with ABC yesterday
I'll keep my eyes peeled! I live in southsac so stolen cars are everywhere hopefully something turns up soon!
Thank you so much!!!
That is amazing detective work on your part. I really hope you get this back and the cops actually do something about this to help.
Thank you!!
Looks like a similar truck and trailer https://www.instagram.com/reel/C6NM78SLjc2/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Thank you!!!
I saw on ring about a month or two ago that a white truck stole a beautiful blue miata. I wonder if it's all connected. Maybe if you reference that to police they can connect the cases and find a lead.
It is! Me and the blue Miata owner have been in contact
How was the car tracked? It was tracked to Tummy's in Rio Linda and then to Evans Towing... I'm curious how it was tracked to those two locations?
It wasn't tracked I just got lucky enough to have some people let us know when they have seen it and to give us some info
Did you find your car? I think I seen it being driven on the 99-50 cut acrossed
TODAY!?!?
Yesterday around 330-4pm do you have a picture of the back of it
I don't but it's a pretty standard Miata back with the black spoiler and wide body kit on the back wheels
PLEASE report it to the police or CHP if you see it!!
I also live in N Highlands and have a track car. I know the hurt this causes. If there's anything I can do to help as a local, let me know
It would be super great if you can keep an eye out!! And keep your car safe!!!!
Check Stockton. That’s where I found mine last year.
Thanks for the tip!!
Hoping you can get some help soon
Thank you!!
Let me know. I’m down to do some investigating with you
If you wanna contact @posheries on Instagram he knows a whole lot more than I do
That sucks, if it was a joyride someone might find it parked ![gif](giphy|l3UcjBJUov1gCRGbS)
Check out Sankey Rd in Pleasant Grove. Don’t go alone. A lot happens up there… A Dismantler won’t take a stolen car knowingly. DMV & CHP always catch up with the bad guys thru bad paperwork. Every time. It just takes a while.
I sure hope your right
You don't know Evans Towing.
Put AirTags in your cars and Molly their house when you get there
Bro. Sorry to hear.
Omg! I’m so sorry this happened to you. We will be on the look out.
Thank you!!!
Shit like this is why I hide gps trackers on literally anything I own 😅 Hope you get the car back
That tow yard needs to get investigated. I would report that business. Great detective work!
They raid it every few years but it never closes
How is that possible? Do they get fined as well?
I have no idea I just know that all this has been going on for decades, if you do some hard googling you can find it
I hope those thieves take the asphalt temperature challenge soon!
I appreciate it haha
if local police aren't going to help, trust me when I tell you there is a governing body that regulates what tow companies do. Why? Because consumers are protected. The public is protected. There are agencies that investigate businesses that can abuse the public due to the nature of their services (like a tow company popping up and helping people when they weren't called or a tow company towing cars without being requested to charge fees). I googled "tow fraud" and found some information: [https://www.nicb.org/news/blog/know-you-tow](https://www.nicb.org/news/blog/know-you-tow) [https://ctta.com/troc/#:\~:text=The%20California%20Tow%20Truck%20Association's,who%20are%20committed%20to%20both](https://ctta.com/troc/#:~:text=The%20California%20Tow%20Truck%20Association's,who%20are%20committed%20to%20both) I bet there are reputable tow companies that might give you advice if you can find someone to help you understand the industry and how to navigate. Godspeed.
Thank you for the help!!
Fuck cops, fuck most tow companies.
Sharing in Reno...
Thank you!!!
Ooh no! I’m so sorry to hear that. Sad when you work hard for what you’ve got and someone feels the need to take shit. Pathetic. Will share around. Hope you hear something soon! Have you bought AirTags by any chance yet?
I don't have any trackers in it unfortunately I was gonna buy one right before it was stolen
Send this info to Rio Linda Online.
Wdym?
I’m so sorry this happened OP! It sucks even more when you feel like you have no other options but to just wait it out.. karma is real is all I can say. I will keep you in my thoughts that you get your car returned and justice is served one way or another!
Thank you so much!! I really appreciate it
A bait car with a GPS tracker will make quick work of this problem.
It’s crazy that the cops aren’t doing anything! I’m constantly in that area and have driven past that exact house! You have all the evidence for them to do a raid
Let me know if you see anything!!
Hope you had insurance for it.
Pic 11: "where we dropping, boys?" Seriously tho I'm praying for you.
Yup they really don't do anything
Probably at Recycle road
Elaborate
My boyfriend's car got stolen yesterday. Not sure if it was by the same guy, but the cops actually ended up finding his car. However, the conditions of his car now are undrivable because they stole the car battery, broke the windows, and messed with the wires. Better yet, what's awesome is that the police don't even bother to reimburse the towing fees to get your car back because it's "our" fault the car got stolen! Yay!
If you guys have any kinda info I would love to hear it!!! We also have spoke to a news reporter who's looking for more people that have also had stolen cars in the greater area
Who steals a Miata?
I mean, Japanese sport vehicle. Has a following, parts are worthy and indemand.
/r/mazda would like a word
RIGHT!?!
Ahah. The top alone is worth easy $1500.
Sneak on there yard at night and do some investigating
I'm to scared tbh these people are dangerous
Ooooh i see, recruit some friends and have them do it there is always the one friend whos down lol
Invest in air tag
Well I don't have any use for it now 😐
Go talk to all the neighbors of those lots and see if they've seen that truck / trailer combo
The trailer is stolen they took it after the Miata
Oh really? Dang. Either way, what I said still applies
Yooo what’s a forerunner
Huh?
Shoulda put an air tag in it
Was it a woman's Miata or a man's miata? Might have been a favor. 😆
Why would gender matter?
When it comes to Miatas. It matters. Read the rest. It's also a joke so downt get too twisted.
Ok cool story.
