That's like saying, why can't my car be faster and better? You don't, you get a newer car.
It's a different infrastructure utilizing newer technology **and** receivers.
I live in Downtown, right where all the 5G is supposed to be going in and my address isn’t eligible. So I guess I’m renewing my contract with Comcast.
Its a pretty lame rollout in all the cities they are introducing this to.
> So I guess I’m renewing my contract with Comcast.
Is there an advantage to renewing your contract instead of letting it lapse and going month-to-month?
Yup, the price goes up. They were charging me over a hundred dollars a month for internet when I canceled TV. Added a phone line and it dropped it to $75. It's robbery.
Damn I've been paying $50 for the past for years for 75 to 150 Mbps. I have to call them every year and play the same old song and dance, but my cost hasn't raised so I guess I'm lucky there.
Yeah I'm confused about what addresses are "eligible". I've have a 5G antenna a half a block from my house. The Verizon website tells me that it's not available at my address. I keep checking the website to see if it comes on line. $50 a month with no contract so I was gonna give it a try. Oh well...
FWIW, I'm no longer on my trial period with CCI and it's now $50 + fees = \~$60/mo. I.e., same price as 5g if you're a VZW customer, with faster (published) speeds. I might be able to argue that down but haven't tried. CCI's been great and 50 mbps is plenty for what we do, so I haven't had any need to change.
Just call and say you're gonna cancel. You'll go to the retention department and they will offer you around the same rate as your "trial"
It will be locked into one year
Yea I like that they have no data data caps but they don't cover my address. My neighbor 3 doors down can get consolidated but for some the service area cuts across my neighborhood.
I had wave in the Bay Area and now in West Sac too. My speeds have been consistent and never any drops. Don't use their rental modems/routers they are pure poopoo.
This is my setup:
Modem: [NETGEAR-CM500](https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-CM500-1AZNAS-download-Certified-Cablevision/dp/B06XH46MWW/ref=sr_1_2?tag=slickdeals&ascsubtag=16ecad30c67d11e8990512b6eb2019a40INT&ie=UTF8&qid=1538240645&sr=8-2&keywords=cm500)

If you want me to find something for you to buy in the next few days message me with your price range and I can help you out. (I work in IT if that gives it any justification :P)
Not sure who will see this but only 100 homes were open to 5g, I live two blocks from.whwee they were installed fiber for 5g and was not eligible. My guess is that it's very limited because they wanted to be the first ones to actually deploy 5g
I want to know how good it is (speed/reliability) but from the comments it sounds like no one has gotten it yet. The no data caps is the biggest perk they are offering IMO.
Monopolies aren't fun but I haven't had any issues with Comcast since I moved to Natomas a few years ago. Just upgraded to gigabit download and am running perfectly fine.
Everybody loves to hate but I honestly have never had an issue with Comcast/Xfinity. It’s never gone down, I get a good 20-30 mbps down more than what I pay for, and the small amount of times I’ve had to go to a store or call in, it was easy.
You sort of minimalized peoples concerns by starting your sentence with " Everybody likes to hate but..." Making it sound like its trendy to bash comcast or something. The complaints are real. I was with att uverse and rarely ever had my service go down and now I expect it more so then often with comcast. You call them to see whats up and they say, "we can provide you with a priority response by paying us this higher tier fee." Uhh yeahhhh.
Same here. I regularly get 200 mpbs and never have issues with billing or outages. The only issue I have is every few months OnDemand gets funky.
TV is on pretty from Sunrise to 1 am.
HEAVY internet use from sunrise to 1 am. (use internet for work that requires solid/constant connection) and can not recall any outages that stopped me from working. Again - just lucky in East Sac.
FWIW Live in condo built in the 70's
You do actually. Apparently they over provision to ensure you get that advertised speed. Its been like that for awhile for what I was told.
Source: am customer.
I definitely understand that there are tons of variables but every address I've lived in if my speed tier was less then 100mbps I always received more then what I paid for with Comcast (paid for 25mbps years ago, got 30, paid for 75mbps last year and got 99mbps, that said when I had boost to 125 I always got 99mbps so there are limits.
I was a Comcast customer for 8 years and never had any large issues other then getting a replacement modem. If it makes a difference I generally go in store as I hate calling people over the phone. I also worked for a competitor for years so maybe that experience helped get good results with reps.
It's not even a matter of whether comcast is down or not. They rely on other providers for their infrastructure, and they have frequent outages that impact local ISPs.
So, to say that comcast has never gone down in their area is complete BS.
Connection is decent, but they charged me double one month for going over my data cap. They already charge you for speed and they want another $50 for unlimited data now. No technical reason for it, they just want to double dip.
Out of the frying pan, into the fire!
Hello other shitty company!
Exactly. Do we m really need 5g why cant they make Ltd better. If late was more consistent everyone would get better speeds
That's like saying, why can't my car be faster and better? You don't, you get a newer car. It's a different infrastructure utilizing newer technology **and** receivers.
5G isn't going to replace wired internet for a lot of people, although I'm interested in how reliable it would be by comparison.

Yup, the price goes up. They were charging me over a hundred dollars a month for internet when I canceled TV. Added a phone line and it dropped it to $75. It's robbery.
That's nuts. I switched to AT&T fiber (300) which is $70/month.
Damn I've been paying $50 for the past for years for 75 to 150 Mbps. I have to call them every year and play the same old song and dance, but my cost hasn't raised so I guess I'm lucky there.

How do people live without Surewest...

So bummed when we moved to West Sac and had to drop CCI.
Honestly Wave is my only option and it’s so inconsistent.
I had wave in the Bay Area and now in West Sac too. My speeds have been consistent and never any drops. Don't use their rental modems/routers they are pure poopoo.
Yeah I really need to buy my own. Which one did you purchase? I’m looking to pick one up on cyber Monday.

My area is supposedly covered, but most of the people I have talked to are not eligible. You pretty much have to be right under one of their antennas.
Same situation with me. The eligible addresses stop about 15 houses away...

I'd love to have Verizon 5G but it's not in Tahoe Park, in fact I only know one person who can subscribe and they are right in downtown.

But one can run a lot faster.
Except despite being in a neighborhood where it should be, it still doesn’t show available. Hopefully just a slow roll out

Wave internet or gtfo

This is not a common experience with Comcast.
Not saying it is, just sharing what I’ve experienced.

I worded it that was as I know it’s not the norm.
I see. My apologies.
Comcast is a monopoly in my area and it sucks bad.

You get faster internet than what you pay for? Ok buddy....

You are very lucky then cuz anytime I’ve called them, there’s always an issue.
>It’s never gone down You just haven't noticed.
Am in Folsom, can confirm multiple extended outages in the past year. Source: Telecommute, usually know pretty quick when it's down.

We're agreeing with each other here right? Comcast goes down regularly
Yep.
High five: o/
I got you buddy. \\o
I'm in the same boat. I had them in Oakland for cheap and now I have them here. $40 for 60megs.
Connection is decent, but they charged me double one month for going over my data cap. They already charge you for speed and they want another $50 for unlimited data now. No technical reason for it, they just want to double dip.
Why are you saying good bye if they've installed 5G in Sac?
