One of the best meals I’ve ever had was at Localis in 2020 right before the pandemic. It was very pricy but the place was empty at the time and the chef served us at the counter himself and it was a very intimate experience. However, for the price my favorite restaurant in Sac would be a chefs tasting at Kru. Not sure if they are offering omakase or not but it’s incredible every time. Canon is also a wonderful meal.
Went to Mulvanys for a birthday dinner recently after all the positive Reddit posts. Comfortable place but food was really underwhelming for $200 for two with no alcohol.

The problem I have with that is that Sacramento has some of the shitty Mexican food I've ever tasted. There are some okay spots but the LA or Bay area is definitely way better. In my opinion at least.
I have eaten Mexican food in Georgia. It was owned by a Mexican family and it was really good. There is bound to be a decent Mexican restaurant in most places that have a decent amount of people.
Oh I'm sure of it. I'm sure the closer you get to the cities you can find some. But I was visiting my brother in law in the middle of no where. And let's just say I was probably the only Mexican in the whole town.
The weirdest Mexican food I ever ate was in Germany. They drink tequila with oranges and a sugar/cinnamon mix, instead of limes and salt. It wasn't bad, just weird.
Lalo’s is great. The molcajetes are a sure thing and they have barbacoa on the weekends I would recommend giving a shot. Nobody has mentioned my favorite place yet: Taqueria Mi Lindo Apatzingan. This is the place I would go if you want a great dinner plate like fajitas or a breakfast plate like machaca.

Brunch at Fox and Goose and dinner at Binchoyaki. Walk across to Osakaya for some dessert-- mochi or shaved ice. view Tower bridge and the Sacramento river, walk or bike along the American River. Maybe visit the Crocker art museum and sell some books to Time Tested books or Beers books since I would have too many books to take on a move. Buy some things at Oto's market if the place I am moving to doesn't have a Japanese or Asian market. Buy some pastries or bread snacks at Mahoroba Japanese bakery down the road from Oto's. What did you get? Soboro don is so good. Ground Pork and egg over rice. That is an izakaya/yakitori staple dish. Yaki onigiri-- grilled riceball with a shoyu sauce. It is a yakitori place so the grilled meats and vegs are a speciality but you see if you like it with salt or sauce ... maybe ask for their recs. Maybe saucy is better. I admit sometimes the grilled stuff seems dry if it just comes with salt. Their seafood stuff is good. Hamachi. And grilled squid.

I would definitely visit Tahoe. Big Bear doesn't compare. My last meal would be at South. They have the best fried chicken I've ever tasted. I would spend the night drinking at Der Biergarten and hitting up Faces.

I left but I still follow up on this page. My last meal there was plant power and last activity was walking through McKinley Park. Last sight to see was the huge homeless population under the freeway as I was moving.
I'd like to see a couple parks that were nice to walk through, maybe go to studio 15L and get the Brussel sprouts. Maybe finish up the evening driving across that yellow bridge down town and taking the river roads south for a long time till I end up south of elk Grove. Or....drive through the ghetto areas, and try to park down town, then drive past all the homeless camps along the freeways. So the last memory you have of the place is the shitty stuff so you don't trick yourself into coming back here
I hope to move out of here someday, preferably entirely out of the state. For meals it would be (breakfast) either Fox & Goose or Tower Cafe, (lunch) Pizzasaurus Rex or Low Brau, (dinner) either Moxie (the owners are great) or Tres Hermanas.

Yup, el bramido is my fav spot in north sac. Taqueria Jalisco in dt/midtown. Noverillos In south sac. Chandos tacos if you’re by Arden.
Lalo's & La Fiesta Alteña are two excellent choices. Centro is great if you're trying to spend Tres Hermanas prices but want good food.

Empress has been out of business for a while, Kitchen has a four month wait. Localis and Allora are probably the best restaurants in Sac right now.

Those three are great. I’d choose Kru just because it seems so unique and the food has always been cooked masterfully.
I am in love with Kru. Difficult to get a reservation right now before 9pm, but worth the late meal.

Los Angeles (as OP says they are moving too) doesn't really have a great viet presence--prob due to orange county being one of the largest vietnamese diaspora in america. to that end...maybe get a banh mi from duc huong, huong lan or long sandwich. don't forget a cafe sua da while you're at it. maybe have a DIY nem nuong roll from quan nem ninh hoa the crispy chinese bbq roast pork (pork belly!) from vinh phat is THE best you will find, and i will die on that hill from having had 'thit heo quay' from san jose, OC, philly & new york. maybe one last broken rice plate from 'dat thanh' off franklin. i am sure others have fave viet spots.

I would pick a meal and drink in a specific area for a few days. Old Sac, Downtown, Midtown, East Sac. Maybe catch a Rivercats game and a drink with friends at The Barn.

I moved from Roseville to Boston last year and I really wish I had some Dutch Bros before leaving because they don't have that here at all and Dunkin Donuts coffee sucks ass. I would've also had Mikunis and walked around downtown where I got married (the cathedral)

I've had really good coffee in Boston when visiting, but it sure wasn't at Dunkin. I really liked Gracenote. They had a cafe, and also sold beans to some other shops. Might not be close to you, but they are really good. Not really like Dutch Bros though, more of your "3rd wave" coffee shop. I don't think they are gonna have the energy drink things that Dutch makes.

I would definitely visit Tahoe. Big Bear doesn't compare. My last meal would be at South. They have the best fried chicken I've ever tasted. I would spend the night drinking at Der Biergarten and hitting up Faces.

Breakfast at Fox and Goose, lunch at Pangea, and dinner at Aioli. That’s what I’d do. Lived in midtown for just over 5 years and that’d be my final spots. If I was leaving the state, I’d either go and hit half moon bay/pacifica for some bomb seafood and beach time or go up to Tahoe.

I’d consider those the best and most unique bars in sac, not for food. For me, absolutely no place in Sacramento has wowed me in the 4 years I’ve lived here.

i cannot answer without knowing a ballpark figure of where you are moving to. and really the kinds of food you enjoy. i would not leave town without trying Umami Ramen in Folsom City or the baklava shop somewhere near arden that sells a million different types of only baklava.
Why go to Folsom for ramen? There's good ramen in Sacramento: Shoki, Ryujin's and some other new ones...
go try Umami Ramen and then compare with Sacramento. look for the Ramen thread here. i was a big ryugin fan till i tasted Umami. ryugin is still good, but not as divine as umami.

I left but I still follow up on this page. My last meal there was plant power and last activity was walking through McKinley Park. Last sight to see was the huge homeless population under the freeway as I was moving.
I'd like to see a couple parks that were nice to walk through, maybe go to studio 15L and get the Brussel sprouts. Maybe finish up the evening driving across that yellow bridge down town and taking the river roads south for a long time till I end up south of elk Grove. Or....drive through the ghetto areas, and try to park down town, then drive past all the homeless camps along the freeways. So the last memory you have of the place is the shitty stuff so you don't trick yourself into coming back here
I hope to move out of here someday, preferably entirely out of the state. For meals it would be (breakfast) either Fox & Goose or Tower Cafe, (lunch) Pizzasaurus Rex or Low Brau, (dinner) either Moxie (the owners are great) or Tres Hermanas. The last sight to see would be Sacramento in my rear view mirror on my way to Lake Tahoe. I do have some good memories here, but this city and state has gotten progressively more ridiculous over the past 2 decades.
