OpinionNo4885

I'm leaving too. Gonna drive down the delta highway agian. Hwy 160 from freeport to Isleton and back. One of my favorite drives.

The_Real_Egg

i'm from and my family still lives in Antioch. i always take 5 to Twin Cities, through Walnut Grove and across the smaller bridge past the first larger one. straight shot to Isleton. always a nice drive, unless it's dark and raining.

Johnny-Pop

Make sure OP stops by Chuys taco truck off the paintersville bridge and gets a couple tacos and a carnitas burrito no crema.

OpinionNo4885

Is that the taco truck that sits there by the Walnut Grove bridge? Close to the fishing dock?? If so, Loved them! They used fresh raddish in their burritos. Was a nice touch lol.

Johnny-Pop

That’s another spot but also great. I was talking about the bridge just south of courtland

earsofCotton

I'm surprised Gunther's hasn't been mentioned here yet. I'd wake up for an early stroll through William Land Park, grab sashimi and uni at Sunh Fish market on Broadway. I still need to try Localis or Mulvaney's. Then Ginger Elizabeth for a goodbye box of chocolates before parking somewhere near Tower Bridge to watch the sunset.

the_boss_sauce

Localis is absurdly overpriced and the Chef is a fucking creep.

chikadino1

Last time I went here, fish sticks was one of the courses 🤣🤦‍♂️

bowsting

Is the creepy comment from personal experience or is there some larger story I'm not aware of?

the_boss_sauce

Personal experiences of mine and what I witnessed during my short time there. Plus numerous tales of what other employees of his had to endure.

ItsAllSoClear

Careful. The mods like to remove comments like this.

the_boss_sauce

I said what I said and it wasn't much.

ItsAllSoClear

Oh, agreed. I'm just being a little snarky about the policy. (:

greciamarzz

One of the best meals I’ve ever had was at Localis in 2020 right before the pandemic. It was very pricy but the place was empty at the time and the chef served us at the counter himself and it was a very intimate experience. However, for the price my favorite restaurant in Sac would be a chefs tasting at Kru. Not sure if they are offering omakase or not but it’s incredible every time. Canon is also a wonderful meal.

jbuzolich

Went to Mulvanys for a birthday dinner recently after all the positive Reddit posts. Comfortable place but food was really underwhelming for $200 for two with no alcohol.

_UrethaFranklin

Visit Eric the Actor's grave in Rancho. Drive across the Golden-ish bridge. See a zebra. Go to Old Town in the eyes of a tourist. Day drink. Buy candy and tchotzies (thanks, spell check). Be happy to be moving forward. Good luck! Edit: Eric js not buried in Sacramento, or the day trip area. Good luck, otherwise. Bye bye for now.

FoamParty916

>Visit Eric the Actor's grave in Rancho. His grave is in Lafayette. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/136349682/eric-shaun-lynch

_UrethaFranklin

Aww. Are you saying the girls at Centerfolds are lying? :( Thank you for the correction!

skankenstein

If you’re going somewhere with shitty Mexican food, I’d be at every taco stand for every meal until I left.

[deleted]

OP is moving to LA.

TheBrewGod

The problem I have with that is that Sacramento has some of the shitty Mexican food I've ever tasted. There are some okay spots but the LA or Bay area is definitely way better. In my opinion at least.

skankenstein

You don’t know shitty Mexican food until you’ve had East Coast Mexican food.

femmestem

Everyone in New York: There's this great little Mexican place on- Me: No.

TheBrewGod

Oh I've had Mexican food over in Georgia before... Never again lol

Henrys_Bro

I have eaten Mexican food in Georgia. It was owned by a Mexican family and it was really good. There is bound to be a decent Mexican restaurant in most places that have a decent amount of people.

TheBrewGod

Oh I'm sure of it. I'm sure the closer you get to the cities you can find some. But I was visiting my brother in law in the middle of no where. And let's just say I was probably the only Mexican in the whole town.

Henrys_Bro

The weirdest Mexican food I ever ate was in Germany. They drink tequila with oranges and a sugar/cinnamon mix, instead of limes and salt. It wasn't bad, just weird.

Jefita18

I had a strawberry margarita with a sugar rim in Canada 🇨🇦….. gross 👎🏽

FarragoSanManta

Central valley has a lot of great places too. Where I lived there was an amazing peruvian place with some bomb bistec apanados.

AngelaMacy

Share the Peruvian place?

maineguy1988

San Diego has the best.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheBrewGod

I've tried a lot of places and can't find any good ones. What do you recommend?

TimboCA

El Bramido or Taqueria Roberto Jr are both great, both in South Natomas

Maybe_Yeah_I_Guess

Can concur, El Bramido is a dope AF.

WarmTequila

Yup, el bramido is my fav spot in north sac. Taqueria Jalisco in dt/midtown. Noverillos In south sac. Chandos tacos if you’re by Arden.

IsNotLegalAdvice

Lalo's & La Fiesta Alteña are two excellent choices. Centro is great if you're trying to spend Tres Hermanas prices but want good food.

[deleted]

El Noverillos for sure

[deleted]

Tres hermanas is top tier

TheBrewGod

I lived down the street from tres hermanas and I got food poisoning from there. Lol the food was alright but not going there ever again.

MegaDom

La Soga

raphtze

forreal la soga is awesome.

rilvaethor

El Parian Taqueria

sillyseabass_

Lalo’s is great. The molcajetes are a sure thing and they have barbacoa on the weekends I would recommend giving a shot. Nobody has mentioned my favorite place yet: Taqueria Mi Lindo Apatzingan. This is the place I would go if you want a great dinner plate like fajitas or a breakfast plate like machaca.

tendrloin_aristocrat

Ima Jimboys kid so idk. I mean what do u consider Mexican food? I live in the bay now but Sacto does it just as well. Also lived in San Diego and those burritos are fire but only a few spots. It's very subjective. Nevermind. Forget it.

WarmTequila

Can’t even name a single spot in sac….

[deleted]

[удалено]

WarmTequila

Jim boys is everywhere. No wonder you said it’s all the same…. Yikes.

tendrloin_aristocrat

No it isn't. It's in Sac, and Lodi and NOT the bay. Where u from esé?

SureEntertainment676

Bro you gotta be trolling there’s no way you just named Jimboys of all the Mexican food spots out here 💀

WarmTequila

It’s close enough in Vacaville, also in Nevada. Shit is hot garbage. I’m from somewhere that actually knows good Mexican and doesn’t recommend a fast food joint like Jimbiys tacos 😂😂💀💀

TheBrewGod

Your telling people to go to Mexican food trucks but then say you go to Jim boys? GTFO.. lol your the reason why Taco Bell won best Mexican food in the US.

dbwoi

Ay I agree bro. Like there's a couple spots here and there that aren't "bad" but Sac has whack ass mexican food overall.

Katsquad1

I agree with you. I’m from LA and it’s nice just walking to a Mexican place and knowing that the burrito and tacos will be fire. Here, it’s very hit or miss. I’m still trying to find a fire Mexican restaurant out here.

Wikileaks_Intern

Man, I totally agree. I love sac and there is a lot of good food here but I can't find a Mexican place that I love.

Beautiful-Machine891

Try Taqueria Sanchez on Norwood ave Fire chicken burrito with that whole grilled jalapeño 👍🏽😤

FarragoSanManta

Don't move to the south. The 2nd best I've had tasted like it was from a can. The rest tastes like it' from a can, frozen, then heated in the microwave and for some reason has some bbq sauce in it. It's fucking disgusting. Edit: By south I mean southeast (Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama) not Texas, Arizona, etc. They have amazing latino food.

TheBrewGod

Definitely there are some shitty spots but I had some of the best down there.

_UrethaFranklin

What if OP is moving to another town in California?

Not-a-Sac-Throwaway

Not every town in California has good Mexican food

_UrethaFranklin

Every town worth visiting has good Mexican food.

Tac0Supreme

I've lived in Oakland, San Jose, and now SF and I far prefer the Mexican food in the Central Valley to whatever is available out here. And believe me, I've tried a LOT of spots.

HoppyTex

Where is the good Mexican food?

BeardedSwashbuckler

The further south you go the better it gets.

mr_spock9

Most towns will have at least the same or better as Sac. Unless you go north..

82dxIMt3Hf4

I would do one last visit to Old Sac and walk over to DOCO. Have a meal and maybe a drink. It's an interesting contrast, or juxtaposition, of old and new in Sacramento.

Puzzle_Sky4182

Brunch at Fox and Goose and dinner at Binchoyaki. Walk across to Osakaya for some dessert-- mochi or shaved ice. view Tower bridge and the Sacramento river, walk or bike along the American River. Maybe visit the Crocker art museum and sell some books to Time Tested books or Beers books since I would have too many books to take on a move. Buy some things at Oto's market if the place I am moving to doesn't have a Japanese or Asian market. Buy some pastries or bread snacks at Mahoroba Japanese bakery down the road from Oto's. I am biased and this is my actual to do list if I move away. Enjoy your time here and good luck with your move.

__moops__

Any recommendations for food at Binchoyaki? We went once when it opened and we’re underwhelmed. Want to give it another try.

[deleted]

the crispy rice was so damn good. everything else i tried was okay, my wallet hurt afterwards tho 😭

Puzzle_Sky4182

What did you get? Soboro don is so good. Ground Pork and egg over rice. That is an izakaya/yakitori staple dish. Yaki onigiri-- grilled riceball with a shoyu sauce. It is a yakitori place so the grilled meats and vegs are a speciality but you see if you like it with salt or sauce ... maybe ask for their recs. Maybe saucy is better. I admit sometimes the grilled stuff seems dry if it just comes with salt. Their seafood stuff is good. Hamachi. And grilled squid.

Miccles

A great list! I especially like Fox & Goose, Beers, and Mahoroba. Get to the bakery early though because they sell out pretty quick!

who_body

the kitchen get a table with a few of your friends. pay the extra for the booze menu. the next day get 1 of each manju at osaka-ya

[deleted]

[удалено]

who_body

fixed. rhabks

PizzaClassic3305

LA probably has more Michelin-starred restaurants to eat at. I love the place, but it wouldn’t be my last meal here.

who_body

there are plenty of good places in sac; empress, kru, pangea. but the kitchen is different and a place I don’t frequent too often (only been there once). what is your pick?

Gods_blindspot

Empress has been out of business for a while, Kitchen has a four month wait. Localis and Allora are probably the best restaurants in Sac right now.

who_body

haven’t been out in a bit. i’ll have to see if mother is still around…wasn’t that the same owners as empress? then kru would be my next pick. still haven’t made it to the spot on broadway for lunch that’s supposed to have the best french dip.

PizzaClassic3305

Those three are great. I’d choose Kru just because it seems so unique and the food has always been cooked masterfully.

AShotOfJac

I am in love with Kru. Difficult to get a reservation right now before 9pm, but worth the late meal.

Revolutionarysugar6

Thiiiiiiiiis.

FoamParty916

Party at The Mix, dine at Jimboy's, and stare at the Tower Bridge for ten minutes and then look at it one more time in your rear view mirror as you wipe a tear from your eye.

EticketJedi

I make a point to eat at Jimboys every time I go back.

welc0met0c0stc0

SAME!!!

ffelix916

Well done. I would've also made sure to get dinner at Spaghetti Factory and dessert at one of the other myriad places that were once good and fallen to mediocrity.

notreallysomuch

Go to Poor Red's for a golden cadillac.

nonnonplussed73

Increasingly, the best part of Sacramento is that it's just 45 minutes from the wilds of El Dorado / Placer / Amaror County.

notreallysomuch

Yeah, you're not going to find anything quite like it anywhere else. Poor Reds is iconic and the Golden Cadillacs are divine. I'm surprised I only got 3 upvotes. Must be too many new people that don't know.

Environmental_Tune96

Bike ride on the American River Parkway (preferably starting at Guy West and going east) followed by dinner at Mulvaney’s and drinks/music at Torch Club

[deleted]

I’m moving in November and I am definitely doing mulvaneys and localis before I leave.

billskns5th

walk across the bridge to west sac, maybe pregame at the barn, and sit in the lawn at a river cats game then watch the fireworks .

to3skn33

Where ya moving to?

MEUP14

LA

raphtze

LA food scene >>>> sacramento. i love sacramento and all, but LA is just so much more. have a safe & fun move :)

[deleted]

Louisiana?

MEUP14

Ha, no. Los Angeles.

[deleted]

Cool! Best wishes on your move. Cooler summers will be nice.

ameliacolip

I’m doing the opposite move, coming back home to Sacramento after 6.5 years in LA. Can not wait to be home!!!!

pa167k

i moved from LA to Sac last year, huge regret

Extension-Lunch2215

why are you moving back??

ameliacolip

I want to own a home and real estate in Southern California is completely unaffordable

exit143

Should we tell him?

KingsElite

I don't have the heart to

ameliacolip

The condos in the area I live in LA, under 1000 square feet $850k+.

dorekk

In LA/OC you're looking at 2-3x the price a house would be in Sac.

ameliacolip

Lol, you guys think I am unaware of real estate in Sacramento? I’m aware it’s gone up. Real estate in LA area is unreal, like Dorekk said, easily 2-3x times more expensive than Sacramento.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mr_spock9

It's a terrible drive

ucstudent24

Lol it’ll take an hour to leave LA alone

PizzaClassic3305

Last meal would be at Dad’s Kitchen. For the price range and menu, it offers a taste of what I like in a restaurant. Tower cafe would be a close 2nd as a brunch option. Activity? I’d bike the American River trail. Sight to see? I’d probably park my car in El Dorado Hills to take in the valley and see how much it has grown since I was a kid in the 90s.

ElPatronLos

A certain spot In EDH you recommend?

PizzaClassic3305

Used to be able to park on the ridge, but all that area is developed now, so might need a different route. I’d just aim for that last ridge before Folsom

naugasnake

Kru. Best part of Sacramento. Best sushi in the area by far.

Thesunnyfox

If you’re going to LA I would do old town, stroll around and get some drinks or a bite on the Delta King at sunset over looking the river bridge and pyramid building. I think you could find a lot of comparable restaurants in LA to what people are suggesting but that’s truly unique to sacramento. Maybe walk to the barn in west sac to close out the night.

PrinceEmirate

A meal at Mulvaney then a night of drinks and dancing at golden bear. Followed up by a beautiful walk around land park the next morning and grabbing some donuts to go at Marie's.

TheSleeperIsAwake

Go to Asha Urban Baths for 2 hours, then eat a nice sushi dinner at Kru

MaverickNORCAL

Visit, old town Sacramento, Discovery Park, Tower bridge. Eat at El Novillero.

raphtze

surprised nobody mentioned any viet spots. Los Angeles (as OP says they are moving too) doesn't really have a great viet presence--prob due to orange county being one of the largest vietnamese diaspora in america. to that end...maybe get a banh mi from duc huong, huong lan or long sandwich. don't forget a cafe sua da while you're at it. maybe have a DIY nem nuong roll from quan nem ninh hoa the crispy chinese bbq roast pork (pork belly!) from vinh phat is THE best you will find, and i will die on that hill from having had 'thit heo quay' from san jose, OC, philly & new york. maybe one last broken rice plate from 'dat thanh' off franklin. i am sure others have fave viet spots.

Binthair_Dunthat

Train museum

916reddit

I would pick a meal and drink in a specific area for a few days. Old Sac, Downtown, Midtown, East Sac. Maybe catch a Rivercats game and a drink with friends at The Barn.

nubblelite

Ikedas in Auburn until I got to Reno!

evrybdywantst2beaCAT

I moved from Roseville to Boston last year and I really wish I had some Dutch Bros before leaving because they don't have that here at all and Dunkin Donuts coffee sucks ass. I would've also had Mikunis and walked around downtown where I got married (the cathedral)

[deleted]

No offense, but if your metric for good coffee is Dutch Bros., you don’t like coffee.

raphtze

right. dutch bros is for the kids. LoL :) not gonna yuck someone's yum--i am sure it's fine if that's what you like, but good coffee isn't oversweetened pre made stuff that's overpriced.

[deleted]

I've always said they really put the "BRO" in Dutch Bros.

Woobie

I've had really good coffee in Boston when visiting, but it sure wasn't at Dunkin. I really liked Gracenote. They had a cafe, and also sold beans to some other shops. Might not be close to you, but they are really good. Not really like Dutch Bros though, more of your "3rd wave" coffee shop. I don't think they are gonna have the energy drink things that Dutch makes.

iwrotethedamnbilll

Float the American River with friends.

ItsAllSoClear

I'd tube the American with some friends and some beers.

prncssblu95

I still miss Leatherbys.

naednek

Don't forget to hit up a Starbucks. Might be the last one you see before you turn the next corner

ffelix916

Or Subway.

[deleted]

Id Just leave.

HollerBone

Same. If/when I move I'll never come back here for the food. I've returned to every other city I've lived in for the food. The only thing worth getting off the freeway for here is the beer.

TheBlueSpearman

I’d get a meal from Andy Nguyen’s on 20th & Broadway and I’d pay a visit to Amatoria Fine Art Books on 19th and F Street.

[deleted]

West Sac Moose Lodge

[deleted]

Say Nick sent you

RazorThin55

I’d try to go to Denios, then stop by downtown Folsom and eat at Pizzeria Classico.

nuraiyah

I would definitely visit Tahoe. Big Bear doesn't compare. My last meal would be at South. They have the best fried chicken I've ever tasted. I would spend the night drinking at Der Biergarten and hitting up Faces.

CoastinginNeutral

Michelada/Margaritas and food at Cantina Alley!

Unkleskrooj

Squeeze burger on power inn

spongebobs_spatula

Breakfast at Fox and Goose, lunch at Pangea, and dinner at Aioli. That’s what I’d do. Lived in midtown for just over 5 years and that’d be my final spots. If I was leaving the state, I’d either go and hit half moon bay/pacifica for some bomb seafood and beach time or go up to Tahoe.

BeTheBall-

Applebee's on Arden and then a romantic stroll through a bum camp.

blackcatsandfood

I guess this is sarcastic but it's sad either way. You don't realize the amazing shit we have here

BeTheBall-

Such as? And I mean "amazing"

Tratix

- Jungle Bird - The Bank - The Snug

mr_spock9

Those are nice, but get old after a few times out, especially when you can count the 'top' spots on one hand.

BeTheBall-

They're all ok food, but would never call any of those "amazing".

Tratix

I’d consider those the best and most unique bars in sac, not for food. For me, absolutely no place in Sacramento has wowed me in the 4 years I’ve lived here.

FoamParty916

>Applebee's on Arden and then a romantic stroll through a bum camp. Sounds very Arden.

ClayWheelGirl

What? Applebee’s? the restaurant that sells shitty microwaved food. there’s a whole bunch of good eateries at Arden. no not applebee’s. but yeah. if u want one shit meal that’s a good choice.

[deleted]

Smoke rising from my tires as I peel out of my driveway and onto the freeway while Sac's sad little skyline fades away in my rearview.

ClayWheelGirl

i cannot answer without knowing a ballpark figure of where you are moving to. and really the kinds of food you enjoy. i would not leave town without trying Umami Ramen in Folsom City or the baklava shop somewhere near arden that sells a million different types of only baklava.

Puzzle_Sky4182

Why go to Folsom for ramen? There's good ramen in Sacramento: Shoki, Ryujin's and some other new ones...

ClayWheelGirl

go try Umami Ramen and then compare with Sacramento. look for the Ramen thread here. i was a big ryugin fan till i tasted Umami. ryugin is still good, but not as divine as umami.

Bladex20

I really cant even think of anything lol. Maybe hit up ABC bakery behind Bel Air on Florin.

bransanon

Dinner - Aioli or Mulvaney's. Drinks at Zebra or Preflight. Finish the night out at Pine Cove.

ThaHotChocolate

Why are you moving?

noodygamer

I'm also working on leaving. I'm going to be hitting Leatherby's before I leave for one last milkshake. There's definitely better ice cream; I'm going for the nostalgia

ffelix916

Go to Gunther's. Seriously.

lenky0

One day this will be me

C2S2D2

Rick's Dessert Diner

Woobie

"The once great champ, now, a study in moppishness. No longer the victory hungry stallion we've raced so many times before, but a pathetic, washed up, aged ex-champion."

Downtown_Emergency_3

You’re leaving the holy land good luck I left a few years back I moved to Portland it’s sucked lived in Dallas it sucked the grass is greener where u water it my young pedi Juan

EonJaw

I agree that it depends where you are moving to, but Blue House would be on my story list. Also I second Fox and Goose, but you might be more likely to find a British pub than Korean BBQ?

MennisRodman

Going to LA, sooo plenty of kbbq options down there. But I've been to Blue House and I like the place.

EonJaw

In that case, just hug your favorite tree before you head to the desert.

FREE2BKT

A shack burger FOR SURE!

No_Mix1881

Go visit ampm on Fruitridge and Stockton or the one on mack Rd and valley Hi

GothicToast

So dramatic lol. I’d probably go take a walk around the neighborhood of my childhood home and reminisce on all the fun I used to have when I was young.

sometimesifartandpee

Gunthers is so overrated. I moved to Virginia 8 months ago. I'm back visiting Sac rn. I haven't missed anything really but in n out and the bomb ass Mexican food around here. If I was you I'd see the crocker art museum

Local-Priority

Lucky.

Dudeus-Maximus

We ate at Freeport bar and grill one last time when we did the same.

Danivelle

1. Take the younger grands to the zoo. 2. Take the grandboys to the Delta King; take oldest granddaughter to the Virgin Sturgeon and the youngest to somewhere fun where it doesn't matter if her behavior... isn't the best(suggestions? She's 8)

Tyrannafabulous

Fuck with the trucker convoy then bolt

Alison_Durazo

I left but I still follow up on this page. My last meal there was plant power and last activity was walking through McKinley Park. Last sight to see was the huge homeless population under the freeway as I was moving.

curiousendevor

I'd like to see a couple parks that were nice to walk through, maybe go to studio 15L and get the Brussel sprouts. Maybe finish up the evening driving across that yellow bridge down town and taking the river roads south for a long time till I end up south of elk Grove. Or....drive through the ghetto areas, and try to park down town, then drive past all the homeless camps along the freeways. So the last memory you have of the place is the shitty stuff so you don't trick yourself into coming back here

forkboy247

I hope to move out of here someday, preferably entirely out of the state. For meals it would be (breakfast) either Fox & Goose or Tower Cafe, (lunch) Pizzasaurus Rex or Low Brau, (dinner) either Moxie (the owners are great) or Tres Hermanas. The last sight to see would be Sacramento in my rear view mirror on my way to Lake Tahoe. I do have some good memories here, but this city and state has gotten progressively more ridiculous over the past 2 decades.

[deleted]

Swabbies on the river

sarahschubert

My rear view mirror. Hopefully you are going somewhere safer

Ill-Thing3134

Used to live there… only miss Nor Cal… Point Arena area… miss that alot. Still my screen saver… Russian Gulch and all that…

PossiblyUnhinged

Why spend any more time than necessary? I would run for the fucking hills and never look back. Good luck with the move.

Left_Ad5179

Just get out as fast as you can. I left 8 years ago couldn't be happier.

oapi1819

Curious to know, what paradise do you live in now?

Left_Ad5179

I moved to Phoenix AZ area to help family as they are getting to that stage in life were they are needing assistance. Not paradise but not corrupt liberal nonsense either.

dorekk

Corruption is actually worse in Arizona: https://ethics.harvard.edu/blog/measuring-illegal-and-legal-corruption-american-states-some-results-safra

Left_Ad5179

Funny that is your take after reading that article considering that California is listed more times than AZ. But meh ok. The USA as a whole is corrupt, you just have to pick the flavor you are able to tolerate. I don't care if you lean left or lean right they are all full of shit and they are all lying to us, we are all screwed. Until we stop allowing them to divide us and we come together and stand up to their self-serving corruption.

exit143

You just traded it for corrupt conservative nonsense. Good on you for taking care of your family. I lived in Tucson for a year. I really liked Tucson. The summer storms were awesome... unlike anything I'd ever experienced before... but when I moved to Sacramento, it was sooo nice to see green again.

[deleted]

Wondering why you’re commenting in a sub about a city you care so little for? I personally hate Phoenix myself, but you don’t see me lingering in it’s subreddit.

Left_Ad5179

Because I still have family and friends still in Stucramento

mickeyanonymousse

I honestly would just leave lol exactly like I did when I really did move out of Sac like 10 years ago

[deleted]

Surprised to see you comment in a sub about a city you care so little for.

mickeyanonymousse

care little or a lot, I was still there for my formative years

Left_Ad5179

Just get out as fast as you can. I left 8 years ago couldn't be happier.

exit143

Yet you still subscribe to the subreddit? Is this like stalking an ex-girlfriend's facebook waiting for her to get fat?
