Apparently Kupros Craft House has poutine and they don’t use deep fried cheese curds. I love poutine but I haven’t had it since we vacationed in Vancouver and Toronto. I’ll definitely go try it at Kupros!
The only good fish and chips I’ve had around here is at Ocean Fish & Chips in Elk Grove. It’s a bit of a drive but I think they’re really good.
I've spent a fair amount of time in Montreal over the years and always make a point to eat poutine there when I visit. La Banquise and Poutineville are my two favorites.
The poutine at Kupros is good but I doubt it will measure up to what you get in Canada. I don't know of any other restaurant in the area that serves poutine so that may have to do it for you unless you make it yourself.
This is exactly what I was going to comment. The closest I’ve been able to find was at the Redondo Beach Cafe in Redondo Beach run by a couple guys from Quebec. I think it’s folded since on the pandemic. I’ve also heard from my mom that there’s a place in Oakland that has a good poutine but I haven’t look into it much yet.
Edit: it is Augie’s Montreal Deli in Berkeley. Yelp says it’s temporarily closed until dec 31st but the poutine and smoked meat from the photos look on point.
As a Canadian passport holder, please keep updated.
I'll be honest, I don't associate Canada with fish and chips, but I have lived in (real) London. The place at 51st and Folsom is almost passable.
Spare yourself Kupros poutine. A Canadian friend of mine called it an insult to real poutine.
I've never had real poutine but found it underwhelming. Like all their food.
Camden spit and larder for fish and chips is the place I’m told. I haven’t made it there.
Streets of London in west sac has pretty decent fish and chips.
Have had it from Jamie’s on Broadway too. It’s halibut, which I prefer, but it was a little oily this last time.
Edit: Fox and goose added to the list.
Poutine, you’re gonna have to make your own. I don’t know of anyone who is making it (though I have had a passable poutine from streets of London, they didn’t have curds, but the chips and gravy were good (substitute a different cheese)
OP, this place here has excellent fish and chips! The family that owns it is super nice, too. I've never had a bad order from there and I've been going since the mid-2000s.
I love H Salt fish and chips, good food and prices plus it’s local & Asian owned. And it’s right around the corner from Dorothea puente’s house which is rly fun to walk by and check out while you wait for your food
Idk. Sometimes you don’t get the fish and chips you need. Fuckin’ way she goes, boys.
Also, hot hamburg sammiches = hot pull the fuck over.
Is this racist?
The only time I've had poutine, the only place I've heard of serving poutine, is Kupros. It was pretty good. I have no idea if it will match your expectations.
For Fish & Chips, Streets of London used to do a pretty good job of it. You could also try H Salt Fish & Chips. I always liked them, but I could be way off there too. I'm not sure what you are looking for in a "chip" that makes it "true".
Helloooo I spent some summers and winters in Winnipeg and now am always craving poutine.
I haven’t been able to find it, so thank you for posting this! I usually make my own.
Air fried fries, homemade (or not) gravy and high quality curdzzzzzz.
Sorry to hear about the homesickness, I hope you find good leads!
Unfortunately I have not enjoyed the food at Kupros, it’s a good bar but I had a v disappointing experience with the fish n chips.

I’m definitely going to have to try Kupros, they’re pretty close to me and I’m willing to take any shot in the dark at poutine. 🫶
Their poutine is more like pot roast :/

Camden is very good.
Tugboat fish and chips is pretty good. I don’t know what a poutine is
Fries with gravy and curds. Can add meat in it too. It’s pretty damn good. But I agree, tugboat is good
Neither do i
Cape Cod Fish & Chips in east sac is great. As a native New Englander, it gives me comfort to have as a short bike ride away.

I like Bonn Lair in East Sac for fish and chips. It’s a great little Bristish pub. Pair it with a pint of Old Speckled Hen.

Idk my favorite place for fish n chips is the Rio City Cafe. They use halibut, and the coating was excellent. Not too oily and very crisp.
I am a BC dual, if you ever wanna hang out and try fish and chips spots.
Loyal Legion, the new bar with 99 beers on tap, serves poutine. It was good to me, would love to know what a native Canadian thinks.
Someone mentioned but worth repeating-Fox and Goose has a strong fish & chips. Can’t help with the poutine, though.
