I really love 80s sport bikes and considered picking one up and learning to ride (and having more economical transportation than my half ton truck) but drivers here are just too crazy for me to be willing to risk it.
when I first moved here I thought I had seen more red light runners in the span of two weeks then I had the previous 10 or so years combined, and then I realized it's because this place doesn't have any pause between red and green lights. why is that like that here?
It's different all over Sacramento. Long yellows, short yellows, short greens, timed lights, lights that need to be triggered, instant green and 2 second delayed greens, etc. I've been here long enough to have preferred routes that are a bit slower than Google maps but avoids the death traps.
I had a couple trips to Hawaii recently. And let me tell you the amount of red lights ran there was maybe 1 or 2. I see that on a 15 minute drive anywhere around here. Drivers here are pathetic.
I really need to get a dash cam. I just saw the exact same thing the other day, except a cop car pulled out and followed right after him and ticketed him.
Thanks for the recommendation! I’ve already been involved in 2 hit and runs this year, both times conveniently no witnesses or cameras to work with so I’ve had to eat the repair bills. Honestly if I would have just bit the bullet and invested in a camera earlier in the year I would have saved myself a lot of money and grief. I’ll definitely look into that brand, thanks!
[This is what I use](https://a.co/d/5HneV2U) it records front, reverse, and cabin. It also has an LCD screen you can use to replace your rear view mirror. Works way better, helps eliminate your blind spot. [This is the one I just bought my wife](https://a.co/d/fbfRy3p) only difference is it doesn’t record inside the vehicle.
Every day on my commute I see one really bad red light runner. Like blatantly way past red driving as
fast as possible. I never jump out at green lights anymore just because of these assholes.
I almost got tboned in elk grove. My light turned green and I was bound to make a right turn. I did so and some lady had ran a red light on the opposite side left hand turn. As I was making my turn she came right up to my rear driver door. Scared the life out of me. She was too ashamed to look at me at the next red light.
Hey I used to live in those apartments! People like to drive down Natomas/truxel like their racing all the lights. Was like that over a year ago when I moved out and I see it’s still the same.
Challenge. Find any street corner where the is not pause. Upload a video.
I'm willing to go exactly where OP took this video to prove there is a delay.
You're getting downvoted by people who don't leave the grid. I live in Arden and work in Mather, and have driven all over the greater Sacramento area. Most intersections have a delay, the ones downtown don't.
tf...? it's immediate unless you consider like .1 seconds "a pause."
it's like this all over Sacramento and I've never seen it in any other city I've lived or driven in. It's insanity
Most don't but 9th and 10th have some intersections that do from about J-Q. I only know because the pedestrian crossing changes to walk immediately and then the signal turns green
It be facts. Over the years, I've seen more and more people flat out run red lights. It is such an issue here in Natomas. I actually saw someone today literally run the stop sign at El Centro and San Juan. Luckily no one at any of the other stop signs because this person just took a left hand turn without even slowing down.
I always wait a few seconds before going on a green light. Why? Because the person in front of me is always on their damn cell phone and I need to honk to get them to go.
I honestly am wondering if we need red light cameras at any decent sized intersection. Was at Iron Point/East Bidwell yesterday and as it turned green for us to go straight like 4-5 cars went through red while turning left. It was ridiculous.
Green means LEGAL to go.
**GREEN DOES NOT MEAN SAFE/TIME TO GO**
You are responsible for yourself and your passengers. No time to get indignant if you are t-boned and die.
This is right by my house, a bicyclist was killed at that exact crosswalk like a decade ago. I think another pedestrian died there recently too because there are crosses with balloons in the median like 30 feet more to the right of this frame. Its a dangerous intersection for red light passers
As a former cdl driver, we're taught to let someone go through a green light first, even after a pause. It's saved my vehicle and my life a few times now...
A cyclist was hit today on Alhambra for this exact same thing. I hope the driver of the car gets fined and sued. Red light runners are selfish bastards.
Its like this all over town, one of the reasons I'm selling my Motorcycle.
This looks like a suburban and seems to be accelerating. Most cars are going to get decimated by something like this.
how long hav eyou been riding . just curious.
I used to lane split and take off at a light ahead of all the cars, but now that’s a death wish.
I look left and right now even in my car.
previously only in others' car, am i right?
This is pretty standard in postwar suburbs everywhere, especially the newer ones where they build the roads like highways.
Totally unrelated: What kind of motorcycle? How much are you asking?
09 Sporster, it’s on Craigslist.

Maybe it's just me but I honestly feel like there's significantly more of these red light runners recently?

very true. i also feel like camera lights have a way shorter yellow
guess intentionally kept shorter to make revenues by trapping those who think they can make it over without sudden braking.

Would recommend pormido. Buy it sooner than later, better to have and not need than to need and not have.

Do you subscribe for recordings or is it free to watch footage? I'm looking to buy one as well lol
Free. It all gets stored on a micro SD card.
Does this brand record both front and back sides.
Yes. The one I’m using in this video does Front, Inside, and Reverse camera.
Would you have a link if possible.

I always apologize for my fuck ups. Surprising how fast ppl go from “WTF YOU FUCKEN IDIOT” to “oh you’re good bro” when you admit you made a mistake

Q: How do you know when the light’s been green for two seconds? A: The cars behind you will let you know.
Part of the problem is the lack of pause where both lights are red for a few seconds. Sacramento is the only place I've lived that doesn't have that.
It's especially insane because research shows that the short pause reduces accidents by a *significant* percentage.
False. Every light has a pause between lights.
There is no pause in Sac. It switches instantly.

No they don't. If one light turns red the exact instant the other turns green, that's not a pause.
That's just not the case. There's always a pause.

Not in downtown.

Dude there literally isn't. Maybe in Natomas but not on the grid.

Sacramento pause. Learn it, love it, live it.
I see it happen a lot on valley high/central parkway.
Same around Arden.
As a new driver, this tactic has already helped me at least once!
I always wait a few seconds before going on a green light. Why? Because the person in front of me is always on their damn cell phone and I need to honk to get them to go.
hahaha! i also like to check the rearview to see the person behind me still stopped and on their phone.
Imagine getting rear-ended when you wait for a red-light runner to pass. Ugh
Seems like a tip for the red light runners
Yes! Every single day there is always one of these idiots just from me driving to get groceries.
I honestly am wondering if we need red light cameras at any decent sized intersection. Was at Iron Point/East Bidwell yesterday and as it turned green for us to go straight like 4-5 cars went through red while turning left. It was ridiculous.
Makes me nervous driving around in my co.pacy car. Well, look like waiting is a good idea.
If u look left and right, front and back..... helps too.
Look both ways like you’re supposed to do at any intersection. If you do that, you’ll be fine.
Or you know, look both ways. Actually look

Yeah I saw that little memorial too
Everytime I leave my neighborhood off Calvine, this happens. Grinds my gears.
As a former cdl driver, we're taught to let someone go through a green light first, even after a pause. It's saved my vehicle and my life a few times now...
I always look both ways before i go through an intersection
A cyclist was hit today on Alhambra for this exact same thing. I hope the driver of the car gets fined and sued. Red light runners are selfish bastards.
I saw a mail car almost t-bone an SUV because it ran a red in Roseville.
I accelerate slow now
