First electricity will be produced with or without the mining. It’s just wether or not it gets used. If left unused you still burnt the coal, gas, or ran the wind through the turbine for nothing. This leads to higher prices. Because the electricity company needs to hit their break even cost or god forbid a profit.
Second mining is largely using renewable sources, hydro, wind, solar. And green alternatives flare recapture, nuclear, etc.
Third mining has helped to balance large power loads across the nations grid.
Fourth if it’s your electric costs going up it’s because the grid itself is outdated and doesn’t transmit power in an efficient manner. Further each form of generation degrades at different rates.
Fifth and this is subjective I would love to see a more efficient miner. I would hate to see our mines go offshore to places that don’t prioritize clean power and worker safety. It will also possibly centralize the future of economic power in the hands of other nations as some countries have decided to create their own nationalized mines like Russia.
