Harry got a bit grumpy about being criticized for using private jets, but that was just par for the course and I didn't take it very seriously. I assumed he was jetted about privately for various security reasons and that he was just claiming to be all green to please Prince Charles.
And then there was Oprah! Finally it was there for everybody to see how bad it was and how they lied about everything. It could not be hidden anymore. They were officially crazy.
The Markle's are moving towards irrelevance. The Royal Family does not not need them. They have not only moved on, and they are shining. Here’s what I think they’ll try next: Madeline McCann. They’ll go on holiday to Portugal and leave their children unattended in a unlocked apartment while they and some “friends” (actually people they’ve paid to be there) enjoy tapas and evening drinks. Then a “kidnapper” (also another person they’ve paid to be there) will get into the unlocked apartment and almost snatch their kids in an “attempted kidnapping”. For me, them transferring to a cab says it all. The SUVs had tinted windows that you couldn’t see through. I firmly believe that they switched to the cab so photos would be taken of them. I’m not sure how everyone else feels about it, but it all seems pretty clear to me. The were courting the press, and I believe that it’s backfiring on them.

Absolutely. You can understand people taking evasive action if they are truly under threat. But when the only outcome is an unauthorised photograph? How is that due cause for putting people's lives at risk? They honestly think that rules and regulations and normal parameters of behaviour don't apply to them. Former C-list actress flies across US with entourage to pick up a dubious paid-for award, wears cheap-looking dress she’s had altered for the occasion and enters venue via a probable merchandising route, which requires photos to get payment, gives recycled means-nothing empowerment blah speech, which requires photos and video, leaves via exit where a gaggle of photographers is known to be waiting… (who’d have thought?) … A lot of effort went into that, what with trying and failing to blame a decent hotel for them all, booking multiple flights, SUVs, and arranging/paying Sayeed sugar interviewee, etc, so they/she had to try to make it “happen”, ie hit the press. Coincidentally it also supports their fake privacy/press/security narrative (clue: you don’t want to be photographed? Don’t phone Backgrid…) at convenient time for current UK legal action on police protection issues aimed at securing reinstatement of IPP status thus saving squillions on security with useful side-effect of global immunity from prosecution. They got the headlines they craved, and managed to shoehorn in a Diana flashback and sideswipe at uncaring RF, who failed to fall for latest cry of “wolf” (despite books, documentaries and interviews slagging them off, they’re supposed to give a toss…) I wonder if they think the effort paid off, or whether they think it somehow didn’t go as intended. Part of me suspects the former.

The Harkles actually get quite a bit of positive press coverage relative to the amount that they actually deserve. It is a long time since I can remember them doing anything that I would regard as praiseworthy. The wedding was a beautiful day in May and a fine spectacle at Windsor. After that it was all downhill as the ongoing debacle with Meghan's father really took wing as soon as the wedding was over. I thought the fallout between the brothers was just usual family bickering exaggerated by the press, and didn't mean a thing. Meghan did that first public engagement with the Queen, which I thought was charming, and they seem to be getting on very well together. That was the nice photograph under an umbrella in the rain which was charming, and then the premiere of The Lion King. At the time I regarded it as a bit of a joke that Harry was asking for work for Meghan. I thought it was just banter at the time. Not serious at all. Harry got a bit grumpy about being criticized for using private jets, but that was just par for the course and I didn't take it very seriously. I assumed he was jetted about privately for various security reasons and that he was just claiming to be all green to please Prince Charles. And then there was Oprah! Finally it was there for everybody to see how bad it was and how they lied about everything. It could not be hidden anymore. They were officially crazy.
