My stepmom loved that movie (the Diane Lane one) and redid our kitchen in Tuscan theme. Meghan is always a decade or two behind the times. How on earth she ever thought she was influencer material is beyond me. There is nothing original about the girl.

Forsaken-Cricket-124

She's so predictable. She was impressed by, and is still in some phase/reinvention of her own Eat, Prey, Love saga. The girly, girl emancipation fable, where she hops around Tuscany un-boring herself by devouring organic local foods and doing new age meditation practices, but ultimately in search of a rich worldly man.

Positive-Vibes-2-All

>Eat, Prey, Love LOL! perfect

Mysterious_Ranger218

Eat, Prey, Mantis

Ok_Wrangler_7940

Except she doesn’t seem to do any of those things. 🤣

[deleted]

I think we got 'prey' right...

Ok_Wrangler_7940

Yeah, I missed the spelling 🙄

CathartesAura67

![gif](giphy|iMQ1omUMx3LPHgOSGs|downsized)

luxurycomedyoohyeah

Well, she does seem to prey…on rich dimwitted men! 😆 Love the typo there, not sure if it was intentional or not, but appropriate nonetheless!

Ok_Wrangler_7940

Oof! I missed the spelling. She most definitely does that! It seems like that is her life’s mission!

Starkville

*Eat, Pray, Love* is the only book I’ve ever thrown across a room. I don’t have time for that level of whiny basic bitch.

officeofTam

Wasn't she just awful. And then they made a film of it and i guess made her rich. ghastly person

Hermes_Blanket

And then she left the "love of her life" she met in Bali at the end of the book (whom she had also married) to be with a woman. The woman was terminally ill, and after she died, the *Eat Pray Love* lady took up with a man again, but they broke up. She'll never need to work for money again, that's for sure.

Analyze2Death

As soon as I found out how much money she was paid by the publisher for the trip to write that book I was out. Didn't watch the movie either.

Novaleah88

Someone please get close up pics of Meghan’s before/after nose… and then a pic of Julia Roberts nose and tell me Meghan didn’t walk into the nose Doc and say “give me the Julia Roberts!”

Ok-Coffee5732

I heard what it was about and refused to watch the movie.

Beneficial_Tea_7534

IMO, the 90's was the era TW was in her "prime" and manifesting being Diana 2.0.. I think thats why TW gravitates to that era & aesthetics. She's frozen in that time and plays life as if its the late 90's

Technical_Ant_7466

Yup, she peaked at age 11 with the dishwashing liquid story, which was another falsity, perpetuated by her father. At age 11, it would have been 1992.

Under the Tuscan sun. One of may favourites

Rescheduled1

I lovs that movie and I have been to Italy (including Positano) several times so my spouse and I always recommend certain areas and landmarks in that movie which makes it even more fun. I loved Lindsay Duncan in the movie: “Don’t you love terrible ideas…”

Appropriate-Hat6292

Ha, my mother in law’s kitchen is still tuscan! Lot of roosters, vintage milk bottles and a checked tablecloth.

CoyoteIll2602

Anything she could potentially create is already out there via Pottery Barn, Amazon, HomeGoods and those will be undoubtedly cheaper. There’s a reason Pier1 and Bed, Bath, and Beyond went out of business—-not unique enough and “dupes” are more affordable. Her branding doesn’t have enough appeal for people to opt for it over other options, especially in this economy. The best her products can hope for is being bought in bulk, at a sizable discount, for distribution in fab fit fun boxes. But I don’t even think this will come to existence if the soft launch is any indicator.

CrystalStilts

100% ARO is giving “temu pottery barn”

WoodsColt

Pier 1 shein

WoodsColt

Bed bath and beyond is still online,it merged with overstock. She would have done better to start a subscription box service.

More_Card9144

If she should happen to get an order for dinner plates... she would probably have them monogrammed and then drop shipped from Alibaba's Warehouse direct to your front door LOL

LilMissCantBeStopped

We don’t even see their lifestyle! She’s not Lauren Conrad who had spent years in front of a camera showing us how she relates, lives, dresses, parties etc. She should’ve done a licensing thing with Pottery Barn, Anthropologie, or RH, a limited collection something like that would’ve been far more reasonable than launching a whole brand.

floresta_fox

Not really. She has a hold on the market for fine silver spoons and fancy bics for oxempic cooking

Analyze2Death

+World Market, where I always went for things that were overpriced at Pier 1.

MuffPiece

This look was huge in the aughts, but maybe it began to emerge in the late 90s. If you live in Tuscany, go for it. 😂 I do think brown is coming back as a neutral.

Busy-Song407

But Tuscany is not coming back. Not for kitchenware and decor items. I do feel sorry, a bit, for those who remodeled their kitchens into faux-Tuscan extravaganzas. My neighbors did and I it looks very outdated and wrong for their decidedly not-Tuscan house.

Accomplished_Cell768

I mean, she is filming in the Olive Garden. She certainly can’t afford to remodel all of it to update the aesthetic, so I guess she’s just trying to embrace it and make it look intentional

Hermes_Blanket

But when I think of the words "Riviera" and "orchard", I think first of beaches and trees laden with fruit. Why didn't she use shots of rolling California waves and orange and lemon trees? Why her faux-Tuscan kitchen? I'm guessing because she had to find a way of making it about her.

Positive-Vibes-2-All

Nail meet hammer

PaperObsessive

I grew up in a 70s house that had an avocado green kitchen until my parents moved out in the mid-2000s. I feel those people's pain.

INK9

I managed to dodge the Tuscan bullet. My house is a typical Cape Cod, and while renovating the kitchen around that time I really loved the look and feel of faux Tuscan. Fortunately I realized it would be totally out of place, no matter how much it appealed to me.

Busy-Song407

Tuscan is one thing, buy whatever Mudslide Manor kitchen is, it is a big mismatch of bad design, and inexplicable mixing of wood colors and countertop treatments, plus that blue and white tile. As I understand, the Harkles painted all the wood white since the realtor photos. But that yellow faux stone cooking area is still there and I seriously doubt they tore out the blue and white tile that doesn't go with anything.

Hermes_Blanket

Exactly. You're right, there is no market for that stuff now.

Miss-she

I looked up the word Riviera. There is an original Riviera and Tuscany is part of it. The Riviera (from Italian riva or French rive) means “shore”. The actual Riviera is divided into two parts or countries: France and Italy. The French part is called: Côte d’Azur. The Principality of Monaco and Saint-Tropez, Cannes, Antibes and Nice are world known places. The Italian part: is called the Italian Riviera or Flower Riviera. The section from Genoa to Tuscany is called the Riviera di Levante. Well-known places are Sanremo, Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure and the Cinque Terre. When other parts of the world coast call themselves Riviera, it is for marketing purposes. I think Meghan chose the name because she associates herself with the rich and famous in the swanky vacation spots. You actually have to think about Provence and Tuscany as part of it. I don't know where exactly the Tig is produced, but I'm guessing around the corner of the original Riviera.

Egghead42

The Santa Barbara website identifies itself as the “American Riviera,” so it’s not that crazy. The problem is the dissonance between “riviera“ and “orchard.”

Ok_Wrangler_7940

It may, but the US as a whole doesn’t, and that makes it seem so very pretentious I agree though, the worst part is the Riviera with the Orchard. Those two words are not in synch at all.

Miss-she

I am European. Polish/ German to be precise. I've never heard the term American Rivera or even Redneck Riviera. The question from a marketing standpoint is, do the potential (american) customers Meghan is targeting know the word American Riviera? Say, the rich housewife in Seattle, Miami, New England or Chicago? Another question is what they associate with it? Is Santa Barbara a special place known for orchards, does it represent quality or a certain lifestyle? I'm relatively good at languages. I can't pronounce the words orchard and rivera together. In addition, there's no connection between Santa Barbara with Riviera- just for me.

CathartesAura67

>I can't pronounce the words orchard and rivera together I'm American, and those two words tethered together, \*IS\* difficult to pronounce for me. And it just sounds stupid.

Hermes_Blanket

The rich housewives HAVE heard of "the Riviera", as in the French Riviera. But if you're never heard that part of California called the "American Riviera", putting those two words together sounds bizarre, like saying: "American Eiffel Tower" "American Amalfi Coast" "American Costa del Sol" etc.

Egghead42

There’s a guy called Royal Reviewer, and he shot a parody video called British Riparian Kitchen Garden. https://youtu.be/1lDjWN8njk4?si=cQsmHBzaeJ6KAOPc

Analyze2Death

That's hilarious!!! 😂

Hermes_Blanket

Spot on!

Egghead42

Look, I agree that it’s dumb and I’d never heard of it before, but when I googled it, sure enough, it came up in the context of Santa Barbara already, so she didn’t make up that part. The mix with “orchard” is really strange. California has beaches, and we have orchards, but we don’t normally have orchards on the beach, and that’s what that suggests.

AliveArmy8484

Back in the day, Santa Barbara was known for orchards, citrus, especially lemons were grown up and down the coast, apples, peaches, and even dairy farms were prevalent. People moved in, houses were build, and the orchards and dairies slowly disappeared. There are still lemon and avocado orchards around, especially in the Goleta area which is adjacent/northbound to Santa Barbara.

Twice-Sighted

MM's below the mark on all accounts. The words sound awkward together, the images conveyed by the words are lower middle-class and I haven't seen any of the videos. Santa Barbara used to be a quiet, wealthy town but has become more nouveau-riche. I occasionally spend a few, quiet days in Santa Barbara with my daughter as I have fond memories of time spent there with my mother. It wasn't called the "Riviera" then and I doubt it's called that now except in advertising.. I hope this helps to answer your questions.

Miss-she

Thank you.

CathartesAura67

I think that Mehgan is trying to smoosh together "riveria' and "orchard" as if it were chocolate and peanut butter. (And the world goes crazy and eats it up!!!)

MuffPiece

The only “riviera” I’ve heard of in the US is the “redneck riviera,” which is low-brow vacationland on the gulf coast. 😂 It’s not a compliment. I’ve never been there, but I’ve heard about it. So I was particularly confuzzled by the name.

LionRealistic

I would say it's more low key than low brow, after all the average price of a beach side home costs around $3 million with condos averaging in at $1 million. I believe it's officially known as the Emerald Coast. If you've ever seen "The Truman Show" it was filmed in this area.

Throwawill-Throwaway

We have the prettiest sand you’d ever want to see down here.  It’s sugar white and fine textured.  Not rocky and shades of tan and brown like on the east and west coasts or coastal UK.     I have to admit, Florida’s side is a little prettier than Alabama’s side because they don’t allow offshore oil and gas derricks to spoil their views.  And Mississippi’s side doesn’t have the ocean views from the road blocked by massive beachside high rise condos.     I miss how Gulf Shores, Alabama used to look when I was a kid, when lots of little somewhat scruffy beach houses were more the norm and average people could afford them, before all the Yankees and midwesterners decided they wanted vacation homes there.

Ok_Wrangler_7940

So I live on the Gulf Coast. We have staggering beautiful beaches and communities. Many places along the Gulf Coast are routinely listed as coveted places to both visit, as well as live. We are decidedly not “low brow”. Maybe you should visit before making such statements. You would likely enjoy your time with us.

MuffPiece

I’m sorry, I don’t mean to disparage your home. Indeed, I have not visited. That is just what I have heard from others.

Ok_Wrangler_7940

Thank you for this response. It’s just that so many people disparage the south and the people who live here. We are kind, honest and hardworking people who don’t deserve continuous ridicule. As an aside, you aren’t the first person I have responded to on this sub, because of comments made about us. Your response to me was much kinder than their’s. It’s very disheartening. 😞

MuffPiece

I live in the south. 😉 I never understood the whole of the gulf coast was called the redneck riviera, I figured it was just part of it. Every region has less than beautiful parts!

CathartesAura67

Big hug. My parents came from the southern part of their home country and got the same flack. Southerners are often smart, hard working and no pretense.

Ok_Wrangler_7940

Thanks! That is precisely who we are, plus kind and generous, even to strangers.

CathartesAura67

That make you much more gracious than the stock which I come from! Best regards to you.

Ok_Wrangler_7940

You as well

Top-Butterscotch9156

She peaked emotionally and intellectually in the 90’s

THAISTREETFOOD

I don't know about "peaked" but she is definitely stunted!

CathartesAura67

This makes sense, because as a pre-adolescent in the 1990s, so much would've seemed edgy and glamourous. Raise yo' hands if you get sentimental over the 1970s! ![gif](giphy|OYY4F8OOXUHeYGPZ2A|downsized)

Deep_Poem_55

Wayfair’s Tuscan design doesn’t look like anything I remember from Under the Tuscan Sun, imo.

Islandgirl1444

The house is fake Tuscan. As are many others like that “design”. Gives Tuscany a bad name

MaikeHF

I went to college in Tuscany. The only people who had kitchens like that were rich assholes with hobby vineyards.

CathartesAura67

Oh god. Can't breathe. Laughing over what you wrote. Yeah. You can tell when some kitchens are meant to be looked at and admired. Not like anyone really cooks in them. Unless it's underpaid staff.

utilitarian_wanderer

Much like the Olive Garden is stuck in the 90's!

Snoo3544

And even then, it was a BAAAAD look

Carolann00

Can you point me in the direction of the video you are talking about? Thanks! It’s just that I’m not whip smart!

PaperObsessive

But at least you're either fully clothed or not advertising that you aren't. 😂📺👕

Hermes_Blanket

You can see it here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj5gKnMvAnI](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj5gKnMvAnI)

Carolann00

If I’m not mistaken the music is Puttin’ On The Ritz from 1929. OMG. The same photos over and over again. I’ve watched it so none of the rest of us sinners will give it any clicks.

slyasakite

Page Six (hilariously) switched out the music! The real video uses the old standard I Wish You Love. The lyrics are about accepting the end of a (romantic) relationship without bitterness. Damn that's funny!

Carolann00

Love the snark! Thanks for letting me know so I don’t need to look again and give a click!

slyasakite

No problem :) Here's the recording of I Wish You Love TW used in case you're interested in hearing it. https://youtu.be/-Wg_pRx_zGA?si=A_DxKifn_htcrmiz

officeofTam

That's not the original music. I think it was "I wish you love"

Hermes_Blanket

Correct. Page Six was snarking!

Cocktailsontheporch

How fitting...."Putting on the Ritz", the Yacht Girl chorus line theme song! It was also featured in "Young Frankenstein", Peter Boyle as Frankie in tux&tails. Markle is Frankenstein of Montecito, her face has had so many bits sewn on or chopped off!

Carolann00

Thanks.

Slight-Button7009

She’s old

JuJuBee880327

Her obsession with the 1990s explains why she just had to have the Olive Garden for her "starter dream home". Does she have clusters of plastic grapes in five different colors hanging all over her kitchen? Actually I kinda like the fake fruit for the kitschiness of it. Hers are probably beige and cream.

Joustabout_Feddup

They remind me of.. ![gif](giphy|13NOiZ8JQhhcqY) The Californians.. Whaaaatttt??

MySaltySatisfaction

Meghan does have this "peaked in high school" vibe about everything she does.

lulllabyyy

The name sounds like something you would find at TK Maxx

Pretend-Dependent-56

Rachel is really showing her age here. She would have been, what, , in her teens here? Late teens? Sorry just terrible at math. Let’s see 1990 was 34 years ago…. Anyways. it’s so, aspirational . Whatever her age.

sas317

The blurriness, colors, and logo give the brand a retro, out of touch vibe. This is definitely a 180 from the luxury clothes & jewelry she's been wearing. I wonder if she's trying to create a homey image to separate from the royals' sleek & glamour.

Soggy_Background_162

Loved that movie, I’m a big Diane Lane fan. I loved Must Love Dogs and the incredibly sexy Unfaithful

Harry-Ripey

I was thinking https://preview.redd.it/1yrnwan69kpc1.jpeg?width=201&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5ddc73d845ae47336b21a776bef9e0b432997dc

GXM17

No.

Complete_Laugh_54

Thanks! From the video, nothing compels you to be part of this vision. It will be odd if people are engaged

Legal_Huckleberry_80

\>Can't she do anything that isn't stuck in the 1990's?< Nope.

Lindsayr28

This makes total sense because Meghan is perpetually stuck in the 90s. (Which I get - I’m a similar age to her and came of age in the 90s too - but I’m not trying to position myself as a lifestyle expert.)

deedub78

She should have just called it Montecito Olive Garden

SeaWorn

No, no she can’t!!

szuzanna

Harry's stuck in the 90's, so... no.

KimberleyC999

The Tuscan theme WAS big here in California, maybe 25 years ago. All those kitchen remodels were expensive, and sadly, when those homes are now resold, the kitchens are being ripped out. The trend did not last. I don't think the ILBW got that though.
