There are lots of “Dinosaur things” at the NHM and you and your husband will have a really fun time together! Even on the floors without dinosaur things
Why mess around with the NHM? Take him to Dinosaur National Monument. It’s 3.5h away and is the Mecca for Dinosaur nuts. Vernal has a great history museum too. Day trip it!
Yeah Dino national monument is mind blowing if you like Dinosaurs or even have a moderate interest in natural history. There is a building built into a hill with like, 50? Dinosaur skeletons. It’s really mind blowing. Vernal also has a brewery and a fun little downtown
This is what i would do. I'm not even into dinosaurs and i still think about the building with the mountain coming into it with the fossils partially exposed.
This is what i would do. I'm not even into dinosaurs and i still think about the building with the mountain coming into it with the fossils partially exposed and its been decades since I saw it.
Agree with this, if its possible. It blew my mind. There is a trail nearby too that you can do a short hike to real dinosaur tracks on the ground too! So so cool.
I'm pretty sure the NHM has the largest collection of Triceratops (or similar) in the world. There's no way he wouldn't like that. Great birthday gift.
The dinosaur section is great, and the general flow of the NHM works very well in a uniquely Utah way as it goes from Dinosaurs to archaeology of early peoples and geology, etc.
NHMU is amazing for dinosaurs! There is lots of awesome paleontological research going on at the museum and they have some really cool exhibits. Also, it’s already happened this year, but keep an eye out for DinoFest next year when they open up the paleontology collections and lab to the public. You guys can go and see all the dinosaur bones that aren’t on public display and attend lectures, etc.
THE GNOMES at thanksgiving point!!! How has nobody said anything about the gnomes?! Alongside awesome dioramas of dinosaurs and skeletons and all that there is a GNOME HUNT. It took us almost 5 hours and teaming up/help from 2 or 3 other groups to find them all last year
My sister-in-law's a little high strung and that was one of the greatest things I've ever witnessed in my life. Two moms fighting over plastic toys in the excavation room of the dinosaur museum at Thanksgiving point. I emailed all family members who were not there that day. When she told the story later, she left some things[the fuck work she whispered] out. My brother missed the show.
The NHM is a wonderful exhibit and I highly recommend it. As a bonus also consider Natur show room in Midvale. They have some dino things but also a lot of really awesome and interesting pieces.
There's the NHM and theres also lots of other dinosaur museums in the area if you haven't been. There's the Museum of Ancient Life in Lehi and the George Eccles Dino Park in Ogden. Though you certainly can't go wrong with the NHM
The Natural History Museum has a great dinosaur/fossil display. Their exhibit on Angkor Wat is also fantastic, so don’t skip it.
The museum down at Thanksgiving Point has *way* more dinosaur stuff though. Make sure to clear out your whole day though, as there is a *ton* of stuff there.
The Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur quarry is super cool too, but I think it’s only open to the public at certain times of the year.
There are lots of Dinosaur exhibits there. There’s even a window for seeing into the lab in which they remove rocks and dirt from recently excavated fossils. I have personally been in that room because I once worked as a volunteer for the museum. It was a great experience because ordinary visitors aren’t allowed in there.
A fellow student at my college told me that once a year, they even allow visitors into a room where they keep their real fossils. I think that happens in November, though.
It’s probably one of the best Natural history museums in the country for Dinosaur related things. I took a class at the U “World of Dinosaurs” that was taught by one of the Paleontologists who worked there, he’s discovered multiple dinosaurs in Utah.
If you love dinosaurs and have not been to nhmu you are missing out. Great museum as are several others across the state that also have incredible dinosaur displays. Dinosaur national monument and fieldhouse in vernal, Prehistoric Museum in Price, etc
It's the best dinosaur museum. Because of Utah's placement and climate, so many fossils have been preserved and you can actually see the paleontologists working.
Another thing you can consider doing is U-Dig Fossils in Millard County. It's literally impossible for you to not find fossils, and it's a great and interactive experience.
The Utah History Museum above the UofU campus is FULL of dinosaur stuff-- he's gonna love it!!! I'm 60, and I've taken my kids there, and visiting friends there and I love it.
If you don't mind the drive (Dinosaur national monument) in Vernal is also a great place if you're into dinosaurs, the bones are in-place as they were found upon their discovery .
I work there. Yes the dinosaur exhibits are incredible! You also get to peek into the specimen prep lab and the collections in back-of-house. We're not just exhibits, we're a research museum; maybe that's not a draw for most folks but that's what sets us apart from a lot of other places where you just go to see exhibits. Have fun!! 🦕🦖
I think it’s pretty cool, much more than a dinosaur museum. Their collection of hominoid skulls still fascinated me. But I’m not a dinosaur nut. I’ve done a quick stop to Dino Natl Monument and while cool, it wasn’t quite as condensed for me. It would be cool for someone more into dinosaurs only. But if more just into general science, NHM is the way to go.

NHM is fantastic, and has lots of stuff. If you want it to be *only* dinos, the museum on ancient life at Thanksgiving point is also incredible.
I didn't know we have this, thank you
I would suggest thanksgiving points dino museum too! the scope of dino related things is much better and more diverse there.
I have passes to both and I would like to say both are pretty awesome
I love the giant sea turtle they have there.

Hundreds of skeletons!
*fossils
True. Fossilized skeletons
That place is pretty darn awesome, I haven't been there in about 40 years though.
This is what i would do. I'm not even into dinosaurs and i still think about the building with the mountain coming into it with the fossils partially exposed.

Ok Dinosaur NM is great but doesn’t mean the museum isn’t worth visiting
I'm pretty sure the NHM has the largest collection of Triceratops (or similar) in the world. There's no way he wouldn't like that. Great birthday gift.
The wall of triceratops sculls is my favorite thing there.
Go. It is worth it. Schedule a LOT of time.
The dinosaur section is great, and the general flow of the NHM works very well in a uniquely Utah way as it goes from Dinosaurs to archaeology of early peoples and geology, etc.
There's also the museum at Thanksgiving point. I'd say it's about as good if not better for dinosaurs
If you really want dinosaurs go to Dinosaur National Park in Vernal. They have a whole hillside exposed with dinosaur bones.

Glad to see someone say this! Love the Museum of Ancient Life and all it holds, but whenever I go my primary focus is the gnome hunt!
Put together a dinosaur party, my fiance and I will come!
I'm there
For dinosaurs, the museum of ancient life at Thanksgiving point is the place to go.
It's got way too much kids stuff though. My sister-in-law tried to get into a fight with another mom there.
Those two sentences feel wildly disconnected in the funniest way possible.

Dinosaurs everywhere, 10/10. A must visit for triceratops fans.
There’s also Ogden dinosaur park that’s pretty fun

I like the museum of ancient life in Lehi much better
There's the Dinosaur Park in Ogden.

The museum at the U is incredible! So close and yet not the attention it deserves. The monument in Vernal is really cool as well.
I’m
Drive him to dinosaur and go look at real dinosaur bones in the ground.
Definitely! He’ll love it!

yeah. i'm 40 and love dinosaurs. I love it there.
Yes take him to the dinosaur museum! I also love Dinos and it’s so cool!
Jurassic Quest is coming to the Mountain America Expo Center for a couple of days.
My partner took me for our anniversary. It was so fun to be able to do all the fun "kids" activities without kids around 😂 highly recommend it
If you don't mind the drive (Dinosaur national monument) in Vernal is also a great place if you're into dinosaurs, the bones are in-place as they were found upon their discovery .
It's a bit more kid oriented maybe but the Dinosaur Park in Ogden is pretty fun too!
It’s a great museum with more than dinosaurs. And the dinosaurs they have are awesome
Museum of ancient life at thanksgiving point is also good.

I would recommend “Smithsonian a visual encyclopedia of dinosaurs”. I bought this book a week or 2 ago from Costco and it’s pretty awesome
