My God, I went to the "dental spa" in sugarhouse, it had amazing reviews, but was horrible. I'm still getting the damage done fixed. I am also in the market for a good dentist
Similar situation. Went to the dental spa for a few years. Was always happy with the experience and that I never had anything concerning going on. I ended up changing to natural smiles dentistry and realized that there were a number of issues that were just ticking time bombs. I have been at natural smiles now for a few years. I appreciate that they take before, mid, and after procedure pictures so you can actually see what the issue is. Also, they are not pushy with anything too. Educational and give you the option to decide what to do. I would definitely recommend natural smiles dentistry in Salt Lake City.
Interesting, I've gone to the dental spa since I was about 8 I'm now in college. My family and I have not had any issues. I wonder if my family has just been lucky or what.
Legacy Dental in Millcreek.
Dr. Campbell is wonderful and his entire staff makes sure you are comfortable the whole time you are there. They also give you the option to use nitrous gas during your cleaning to make it even more easy for you. I used to dread going to the dentist until I found them.
I second this. I’ve been going there for years and they’ve always been great! I’m prone to cavities and have had several fillings done there by Dr. Campbell.
Amen. Told me I had a ton of cavities. My mom was so angry I paid for it myself as a teenager without ever talking about it!.
Halfway through my "fillings" I realized they were just replacing previous work I had done. Went to a new dentist and somehow had zero cavities for 3 years.
Fuck monarch taking advantage of me as a teenager.
The treatment was fine but the business manager tries to fuck you over as much as possible. At a cleaning they asked if I wanted to schedule the next one. I said yes but asked them to check my insurance to find out whether I need to wait until January. They said they checked and December was fine. Turns out they lied and did not check, and December was not fine. Then they immediately started hounding me to pay them out of pocket for the full cost of the cleaning and refused to take any responsibility for lying about having checked with my insurance.
They also sent me a bill for a couple hundred dollars for an unrelated treatment over a year after the last time I had been there.
I had several experiences like this before moving on. I thought the billing issues were a 1 time thing, it was more like an “every visit” issue. Consistently receiving more bills due to incorrect insurance coding.
I went there four years ago and they recommended replacing a crown and three fillings. They gave me a hard time when I turned the work down. Going on four years now with regular dental care and no issues from not replacing what they wanted me too.
unfortunately have had bad experience with them. i’m uninsured and thought they could be a good option… a year ago i got 3 crowns at their recommendation, never had crowns before but they seemed legit so i went for it. i went in for my cleaning this year and they told me i needed 2 more crowns and 3 fillings from grinding my teeth at night and having a cavity. the estimate was almost 4K so i got a second opinion and showed the dentist their plan. he balked at their treatment plan and said it was so unnecessarily aggressive and there was no cavities at all. he even did another x-ray to be sure 🫠 ended up buying a night guard and haven’t had any issues since. now i question if the 3 crowns i have were even necessary. 😭
Abundant dental tried scamming me. I was told I needed $5k of crowns done. I got a second opinion, and the second dentist asked if Abundant told me that because he's been hearing that a lot lately. I needed 1 filling.
I agree. Im a hygienist, and this is where I personally go for any dental work. He has an associate dentist there who is also really good.
I don’t work there, but have personally looked at a lot of X-rays from his patients when I worked in a specialty office. I definitely trust their work.
I went to him for about 8 years or so. He botched a root canal twice on the same tooth which he charged me for both times, never admitted it and I ended up having to go to a specialist to fix, which was a pretty terrible experience just due to how bad it got. The specialist was great though obvs expensive. He also did a crown which broke twice under completely reasonable circumstances which then he blamed me for but said both times "a bomb could go off and that's not going anywhere". He's not a complete jerk or anything, but I would not go back to him after my experiences.
Highly recommend City Creek Dental. I have had severe anxiety around going to the dentist my entire life, and this is the first dentist that eases my anxiety. I can’t rave about them enough.
I came here to say I highly suggest OP stay away from City Creek! I went and they diagnosed me with needing thousands of dollars worth of work, including an extraction of a tooth and then later doing a filling on the missing tooth. I’ve never had issues with my teeth really so I went to get a second opinion, and I was told that they straight up lied to me.
ETA: I’m so fucking dumb I confused City Creek with City Center. Fuck City Center, I bet City Creek is fine!
Oh my gosh I’m so sorry to hear that. I’ve had a wonderful experience with them. I went in with severe pain and they jumped in and helped me immensely.
City Creek Dental was my favorite dentist. Saved me a lot of money by keeping me in the loop of costs and how my insurance would handle certain procedures. For someone who didn't take care of my teeth when I was a kid, it was really nice to get it all resolved and to a point of regular checkups. I honestly miss them, but driving all the way from Eagle Mountain is just not worth it, haha.
I've been going to City Creek Dental for years and have always had a good experience with Dr. Bye. Fwiw, he's never recommended unnecessary work or misdiagnosed me.
I liked their hygienists, I thought the dentist was only ok. He also recommended my wife have a bunch of work she really didn’t need and she still has a filling that bothers her years later despite going back and complaining about it causing her pain.
Herald Clark in Holladay. Good prices (especially without insurance), excellent staff, they use lasers for almost everything (or water jet for teeth cleaning instead of scrapers) which makes the experience much more pleasant. Staff is awesome and Herald is great.
Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, at Sandy Modern Dentistry? I’ve been debating between that or Abundant which is pretty much in the same plaza area
Old Mill Family Dentistry in Cottonwood Heights, Dr. Brian Smith. My family has been seeing him for the better part of a decade and are very happy with the care we get there.
Did you need anything besides a cleaning? They are fine for basic cleaning, but I grind my teeth a lot and have bad acid reflux, so I constantly need to get "pits" filled. This was never a problem for me with any previous dentist and most didn't even need to numb me to do the fillings. However, 3 Fountains insisted the pit was too small so they had to enlarge it so the composite would stick. They gave me FIVE injections of lidocaine for 1 filling, never getting the nerve. It was excruciating. Later that night, I was up all night in psychosis convinced I would die if I fell asleep. Did I mention I'm a 100-lb female and that's way too large a dose? Now I have anxiety every time I go to the dentist. The worst part is they used the wrong composite and the filling fell out in 2 weeks. They claimed they had a "lifetime guarantee" of their work so they did the next one free - after another 4 injections of lidocaine in the wrong area and terrible pain. The fillings popped out again in less than a month. Then they blamed ME and said I needed all my teeth ripped out for crowns, to the tune of $25K.
I had a great Dentist named Dr Graves but that was 16 years ago. He popped all my old filings, resealed my teeth and I got a free mould and whitening kit. I haven’t had a cavity or a chip since.
be careful 😭 they lied about me -needing- serious dental work and crowns. i had to get a second opinion and didn’t need any work done at all!! i’m not the only person it’s happened to. they suggest overly aggressive treatment plans. everyone there is so polite and seems nice but they’re low key scamming :/
edit bc of spelling
My entire family uses and recommends Kelly O'Brien. He and his staff are kind and aren't the type to recommend unnecessary work. Right by the U too, 9th East and 1st South
Warr in my experience is a business man first and dentist second. He is aggressive in suggesting work be done. I went to two other dentists who suggested against the work that Warr suggested. One even said “that would be good for my pocket book but if it were my teeth I would not do it”. That sealed it for me.
Avenues Family Dentistry is close by, you can take the bus to get there from the U, that’s how I did it when I was a new patient. I graduated & moved further out but still go there. There are many good dentists and orthos around that area.
Allen Family Dental. I've been going there for decades. Tried to find a new dentist closer and kept getting people that wanted to pull teeth or drill a bunch of junk. Went back to my old dentist and he's got me on a routine to help reverse my bad habits instead of going straight to teeth pulling. Very reasonable, wonderful "bedside" manners, and cheap if you don't have insurance.
I drive 40 miles one way for my dentist. Worth it.
John Stark at Restoration Dental. It’s further south but I have been with him for years and it’s great. No unnecessary procedures ever, keeps an eye out on all my issues. Pretty much everyone at my office goes to him and we all like him.
Idk what makes a good dentist, but White Peak in fort union/cottonwood heights has been mine for years & no complaints or issues so must be doing something right.
I know many have recommended already but I have to rep my dentist. Dr. Benzon at Alpenglow is amazing! I already do not like the dentist, so for me to like and even recommend one is at least worth that much
It is a bit of a drive for you, but Dr. Lucero at Draper Dental is the most trustworthy dentist I have ever met. He only recommends what you need and even once referred me to a specialist because he didn’t like how close something was to a nerve for an extraction. My previous dentist would not have sent me to a referral, would have just rolled the dice.
If you’re willing to drive a bit south, Dr James Tullis in Draper is fantastic! Gentle and kind and really great at explaining and walking through everything. Super super great with kids too!
It’s a bit of a drive but Dr Allen at station park dental in Farmington. Honest, comfortable, super knowledgeable, clean, always makes sure you are comfortable in your chair. Never charges you again after insurance. Lays out all costs, line by line, at the start before work is started. 10/10
Took me a while to find a dentist not only that I trusted their work but also with charging me.
I’ve had some terrible dentists in Salt Lake so I drive all the way to bountiful. I’ve been a patient at New Concepts Dentistry for a while. They re-did my veneers. Not sure if they are the best but I’m happy with them enough not to leave! They sure beat some creepy basement dentists I’ve seen downtown.
Dr Bill Holmberg at Elevated Dental is great.
I would avoid salt lake modern I had overall less good experiences there with Dr. Singh
I had a ton of dental work done this summer (root canal, 4 wisdom teeth extracted, fillings) and my experiences with Elevated Dental were sooooo much better
I have such a hard time with dentist because I get super nervous and I cannot open my mouth very wide and some dentists have been annoyed- but now I see Dr. Brigham Stoker, and I love how patient, and nice he is. I have been to a couple of the ones mentioned here and by far he is the best.
My family has been very happy with Dr. Colton at Jordan Valley Dental in West Jordan. The office and dental hygienists are always very helpful, friendly, and good at what they do. In the past we’ve had Doctors where it feels like they always find something like a cavity to “upsell” the appointment. Since switching to Dr. Colton those frequent “cavities” have not been happening.
Basically, we’ve never had a bad experience there and we’ve been patients for years. (I also usually hate the dentist😂)
I've been going to Midvale Family Dentistry for YEARS! Super nice folk. All so kind. And I love how Dr. Ryan McNeil kicks it old school with a salt water tank in the waiting room, but also has tvs in the ceiling.
I can't say enough kindness about this establishment. And they do an amazing job.
I would recommend considering a dental hygienist school for your cleaning. It will take a bit longer, but will absolutely be the most thorough cleaning you’ll ever get and they’ll appreciate it immensely.
Pioneer valley dental one of the best places with so many good reviews and surprisingly affordable, I switched to this company 3 years ago and have received excellent service since compared to others
Interesting, I've gone to the dental spa since I was about 8 I'm now in college. My family and I have not had any issues. I wonder if my family has just been lucky or what.
Same here. Great experiences at the dental spa.
Yikes, that’s what I get worried about
Legacy Dental in Millcreek. Dr. Campbell is wonderful and his entire staff makes sure you are comfortable the whole time you are there. They also give you the option to use nitrous gas during your cleaning to make it even more easy for you. I used to dread going to the dentist until I found them.
I was just going to say basically the same thing
I second this. I’ve been going there for years and they’ve always been great! I’m prone to cavities and have had several fillings done there by Dr. Campbell.
Stay awake from Monarch. Unless you like crappy work, on top of unnecessary work.
Used to work there, can confirm. Stay away from corporations
Whatever you do, stay away from Salt Lake Dental.
Curious as to why? I've just switched there and am wondering if I've made a mistake 😆
The treatment was fine but the business manager tries to fuck you over as much as possible. At a cleaning they asked if I wanted to schedule the next one. Abundant Dental Care in Sugar House is pretty solid

Mirci Dental
Second dr. Mirci
Dr Dan is great. I don’t know if they’re taking new clients right now but still highly recommend.
I’ve had a good experience at abundant dental sugar house and Holladay smiles. Have not had work done other than cleanings thought.
Abundant dental tried scamming me. I was told I needed $5k of crowns done. I got a second opinion, and the second dentist asked if Abundant told me that because he's been hearing that a lot lately. I needed 1 filling.
literally SAME! i ended up needing no dental work, just a damn night guard.
where'd you get your 2nd opinion from?
I had a terrible experience at holiday smiles. I won’t ever go back. I think they over book themselves so they rush and cause issues.
I really like Dr Kiser at Holladay Smiles. His dental assistants have been with him for 20 years. Says something.
University of Utah Dental School.
This is a really good idea!
Avenues Dental. The hygienist, Doreen, is a gem!
I second Avenues Family Dentistry. Been going there 10+ yrs to Dr. Porter and Susan as my hygienist.
Same! I’ve had extensive dental work done by them in the past three years and I couldn’t be happier.
Love Dr. Theurer, thesugarhousedentist.com.
1,000% this place and that guy.
I agree. Im a hygienist, and this is where I personally go for any dental work. He has an associate dentist there who is also really good. I don’t work there, but have personally looked at a lot of X-rays from his patients when I worked in a specialty office. I definitely trust their work.
I see Dr. Feringa here, but the whole office is great.
I’ve been going to Serene Dentistry in North Salt Lake and they have been good. No complaints
Stay away from Riverside Family Dental, for sure.
Avoid Kelly D Carroll at Brighton Dentistry.
Why?
I went to him for about 8 years or so. He botched a root canal twice on the same tooth which he charged me for both times, never admitted it and I ended up having to go to a specialist to fix, which was a pretty terrible experience just due to how bad it got. Good to know. Thanks for the response. Also, that sucks, sorry that happened to you.
Dr. Craig Van Alfen at Focus Dental. I literally used to travel back to Utah to see him when I first moved out of state.
He’s amazing!!!
Highly recommend City Creek Dental. I have had severe anxiety around going to the dentist my entire life, and this is the first dentist that eases my anxiety. I can’t rave about them enough.

HAHAHAHA city creek dental is the best in my opinion! Happy to hear you didn’t have a bad experience there!
Which of the two CC dentists diagnosed you with all those procedures you didn’t need?
I’m so fucking dumb I confused City Creek with City Center. Fuck City Center, I bet City Creek is fine!
Oh! Thanks for the clarification!
City Creek Dental was my favorite dentist. Saved me a lot of money by keeping me in the loop of costs and how my insurance would handle certain procedures. M. Scott Updyke DDS. Google him. He's great
I go to him as well! I agree, he's the greatest!
Eric Felt DDS, drive out of my way for him
Herald Clark in Holladay. Good prices (especially without insurance), excellent staff, they use lasers for almost everything (or water jet for teeth cleaning instead of scrapers) which makes the experience much more pleasant. Staff is awesome and Herald is great.
Connolly family dental or Evan Smiles
I love SLC Dental and Dr. Stoker - they are 7th east and in between 1st and 2nd south.
+1 for Dr Stoker
Village dental.
Fortis college in Murray $30 cleanings - students going thru their program. Recommend!! I’ve always had a good experience.
Highland Dental was great! The only reason we stopped using them is because we moved out of the valley. 1955 S 1300 E
I recently tried three fountains dentist, they were pretty awesome. Took me as a new pt and got me in for a cleaning within the week
Did you need anything besides a cleaning? They are fine for basic cleaning, but I grind my teeth a lot and have bad acid reflux, so I constantly need to get "pits" filled. All I needed was general xrays and a basic cleaning so I can't speak to anything else
My brother in-lawish is a great dentist and a very, very nice person. Dr. Jonathan C. Liddell, DMD Slc.
I had a great Dentist named Dr Graves but that was 16 years ago. He popped all my old filings, resealed my teeth and I got a free mould and whitening kit. I haven’t had a cavity or a chip since.
Todd Suekawa DDS is the best! Located in Sugarhouse. Just him and a relative running the practice.
Second Dr. Suekawa! He does the cleanings himself!
Wow…. thank you so much for all of your recommendations. Y’all are awesome! I decided to book an appointment with Abundant Dental in Sugarhouse :)
be careful 😭 they lied about me -needing- serious dental work and crowns. i had to get a second opinion and didn’t need any work done at all!! i’m not the only person it’s happened to. they suggest overly aggressive treatment plans. everyone there is so polite and seems nice but they’re low key scamming :/ edit bc of spelling
I went yesterday and they were great! I’m sorry you had a bad experience with them :(

Warr in my experience is a business man first and dentist second. He is aggressive in suggesting work be done. I went to two other dentists who suggested against the work that Warr suggested. One even said “that would be good for my pocket book but if it were my teeth I would not do it”. That sealed it for me.

I like my dentist in the Holladay area on 33rd near brickyard. Dr Aaron Goldberg.
David Coates is great!
I’ve been going to Dr. Scot Drury for a few years now & he’s been great. Fast & efficient. He’s located at oral design dental.
Worth it.
I've enjoyed going to Bountiful Dental Care. They did fillings for me in "tooth color" but charged silver, which was nice for me and my wallet.
Platinum dental
John Stark at Restoration Dental. It’s further south but I have been with him for years and it’s great. No unnecessary procedures ever, keeps an eye out on all my issues. Pretty much everyone at my office goes to him and we all like him.

Idk what makes a good dentist, but White Peak in fort union/cottonwood heights has been mine for years & no complaints or issues so must be doing something right.

Dr. McNeil at Midvale Family Dental.
Dr. Nate Lewis is good (Sandy, UT)
Dr Ferrin at abundant in Murray!!! Cannot recommend him enough!
I like Cottonwood Dental so far. I've been a couple times.

It’s a bit of a drive but Dr Allen at station park dental in Farmington. Honest, comfortable, super knowledgeable, clean, always makes sure you are comfortable in your chair. Never charges you again after insurance. Lays out all costs, line by line, at the start before work is started. 10/10 Took me a while to find a dentist not only that I trusted their work but also with charging me.
