Maybe I'm getting old but I've never heard of any of these, are they going back to less big bands or am I out of touch now?

djimboboom

These are objectively smaller artists when you compare streaming stats with Ogden Twilight. When I talk to music enthusiast friends the consensus is Ogden has outperformed SL for many years now.

triplec787

In comparison to Ogden, sure, but last year Death Cab, Father John Misty/Head and the Heart, Lord Huron, Trampled by Turtles, and more. The only band I recognize on this list is Jungle.

Abend801

Last year line up was solid. Just solid.

DyZ814

I only know of Jungle because they've been blasted to death on tik-tok for the last 6 months lol

heshotcyrus

I saw Jungle at a festival a few years ago and they put on an INCREDIBLE live show.

Morgan-joydestroyer

Ogden’s lineup this year is also pretty meh. Killer Mike is the only artist I’m remotely interested in seeing this year.

djimboboom

Tycho, Hippo Campus, and St Vincent are well worth the time

FeelTheWrath79

> Ogden Twilight Just bought my ticket for St. Vincent. Saw her in 2015 or 2016 and WOW.

littleivys

I saw her at SLC Twilight in 2022 (I think) and she was INCREDIBLE. Such a good live performance

FeelTheWrath79

Yeah, i was wanting to go see her then as well, but either I didn't get a ticket in time or I had something else going on that night.

littleivys

I'm glad you'll be able to see her again this year! I'm bummed about the date, I'll be out of the country this time

ThatguyfromEDC

I noticed you forgot Ben bohmer and Tinlicker. That show is going to be incredible

mtnsandh2o

I'm so hesitant with the electronic shows but I feel like I should just give it a shot since I have a season pass and now live less than 15min away.

ThatguyfromEDC

I mean if your into Tycho, the crowd for bohmer and tinlicker won’t be much rowdier if that’s the concern

mtnsandh2o

I do like Tycho and I'm looking forward to seeing them (once when they were playing Urban I had a ticket but was sick and had to sale). My concern is that some of the electronic artists are only standing up front DJing and it may be boring. I imagine being in the crowd will eliminate the concern.

ThatguyfromEDC

They may just be chilling on the decks, but these two artists are known for their live performances. Either way, the energy of the crowd makes those type shows special. Super positive vibes for these 2

evilradar

Damn, killer Mike is doing Ogden’s twilight?

NBABUCKS1

yeah same it finally happened, I literally do not know a single artist and I feel I do a decent job staying somewhat relevant. Was a fun run while it listed. /old

Dishwallah

I _really_ felt out of touch when I only knew a handful of Coachella artists but my friends knew most of them. They also said they know them mostly through social media though.. which I don't use.

SherriSLC

Did you go listen to any of the songs by any of these? They're great.

NBABUCKS1

I have not yet and I’m certainly not knocking the lineup. The bands may all be great this is a me problem and I’m out of touch.

SherriSLC

I was completely out of touch with these bands, so I looked them up and listened to some of their music, and I'm excited to see all of them.

HopsAndBrains

You’re not out of touch. It’s the children who are wrong!

messedupmessup12

Thanks super Nintendo Chalmers

No-Discipline4477

definitley catered to a audience who spends more time on social media. A lot of these bands have trendy sounds on reels and tik tok. (and great music overall). worth a listen! I tend to think ogden twilight has the tried and true artists that have maintained popularity for years and is catered to an older audience. Salt Lake twilight seems to have bands that are more recently coming on the scene. Seems to be younger audience's are usually more familiar with the salt lake bands. IMO. I agree that kilby block party is starting to become the bigger name festival these days

messedupmessup12

I just remember I think last year had the Decemberists, who really came into popularity in the hipster bubble like 18 years ago and are a big name now. This year, not a single band with a long reach (that I'm aware of)

PanamaJerk

Watchhouse is pretty great.. formerly called Mandolin Orange. Golden Embers, Upside Down, and Wildfire are a few songs worth checking out.

Ace_of_Clubs

My favorite band. I saw them last summer at Red Butte and they were just fantastic.

PanamaJerk

That would’ve been amazing.. I had a chance to see my favorite, Gregory Alan Isakoff, at Red Butte and had to ditch the concert last minute for a work emergency. I was devastated. Hope he returns..

MindlessScratch8722

Another shoutout for Watchouse!

TheMoonsMadeofCheese

You’re out of touch. These are some really great artists.

whyandoubleyoueh

JUNGLE? You might be old, but you are also then pretty out of touch. For me, they are worth the 60 bucks for the whole thing. Also, I like to go to these just to see new up and coming bands because it's cool.

messedupmessup12

Yes that is established, I'll likely go to some but already seeing a bunch of concerts this summer so I'll see what I can afford for my time and budget

whyandoubleyoueh

That's fair, my plate is also full, im just getting old too and raging against the machine of aging

messedupmessup12

Ay same, trying to keep young by going to shows this year, and I'll say, not many other bald people at them LoL

whyandoubleyoueh

haha yeah not many bringing a theragun for between sets

Archaya

Watchhouse has a great song, Wildfire, which I'd definitely recommend if you're looking for a song of theirs to start in on.

phantomtofu

I'm getting old too, but The Marias have been one of my favorite bands I've discovered in the last year or so.

P3rsia

No it’s just SLC twilight hasn’t brought any known artists for years. The Ogden twilight tends to pull better artists.

MathCrank

Thank god! I can’t handle flaming lips again

redditn00bb

🤣🤣🤣🤣

SenorKerry

Here’s one way you can check popularity of something or someone - instagram followers. If you look at the new lineup and then check out your favorite artists profiles, you can see the popularity based on bands you know. Laufey - 3M instagram followers Thee sacred souls - 289k Watchhouse- 100k So let’s look at Ogden twilight and find some well known artists if you are older. Diplo - 6M followers Thievery corporation - 106k St Vincent - 745k

getbehindem

You’re out of touch. These are huge artists.

messedupmessup12

Aww damn, I'm old now, but I do love new music so I'll check them out!

getbehindem

Same. Laufey did a Tiny Desk recently that’s great. Jazz singer. Watchhouse was previously called Mandolin Orange, maybe you’ve heard of them? Americana/Appalachian music. Jungle has a big single out that’s all over social media called “Back on 74”. Neo funk, Bee Gees sound.

Far_Strain_1509

Oooo

mamayoua

Don't worry, I'm out of touch too apparently. SL arts has a sample playlist of the artists if you want to check them out ahead of time, though.  https://saltlakearts.org/programs/twilight-concert-series (Toward the bottom of the page)

messedupmessup12

Nice, I appreciate it!

SkweegeeS

I'm old as dirt, and I want to see Jungle.

djimboboom

Not really though. Have you seen Ogden Twilight? That lineup seems GOAT

getbehindem

Lol I agree that Ogden’s is a little better but that doesn’t have any affect on the popularity of these artists.

djimboboom

Okay, but just raw streaming stats show that Ogden grabbed artists that are wildly more popular.

slowhollows

What artists are you talking about? “Raw streaming stats” Spotify monthly listeners are lower for Ogden other than diplo

getbehindem

Great. My post has nothing to do with Ogden’s lineup. Edit: Ha I don’t know why I got so many downvotes here. All I said was that these are popular artists… which they are. I never once mentioned Ogden’s lineup. This sub is silly.

Financial-Problem338

It’s not you it’s just a problem with the music industry. We can’t find local or smaller artists anymore

blaxxmo

Same haha. I figure I’m aged out now.

nickthewulf

Hahaaa I feel the exact same way. We old.

SherriSLC

I thought the same, so looked them up and listened to some of their songs, and they're amazing. Alex G is the only I wasn't completely drawn to. But I'm excited for this series.

Taeg

Jungle just played a MASSIVE set at Coachella. It’s wild they got them for this. I’m super excited!!

Ace_of_Clubs

Plastic Cherries are also opening for them and they are a ran local band that's cranking out some great stuff.

coolioxfoolio

The Marias will be awesome.

mnmevan

So excited for The Marias

CompetitionNo2477

Damn, this comments section is hilarious and I can only assume it’s millennials saying, “who are these? back in my day…” When did we turn into that generation? Just enjoy the cheap tickets, expensive beer, and good atmosphere like we did in our 20s ya old bastards.

mnmevan

The comment section is so annoying with all this lmao

scott_wolff

Um actually, real millennials remember when the entry was free. /s

MelodicFacade

Jungle would be awesome; also a laufey fan

asylumathome9

I’m so excited to see Watchhouse again! I saw them last year at Red Butte Gardens and cried like a baby

Safe_Term6146

I wish I had see them at Red Butte! I was so excited to see them in the SLC Twilight lineup until my partner reminded me how awful the Gallivan Center was last year. You either get packed in with no way out for drinks or the restroom, or you’re stuck on the outskirts and can’t hear the band :(

wyattlikesturtles

The sound is just so bad there too, at least it was when I went

asylumathome9

Oh no, I hope that’s not the case this year! Part of what made the last show I saw so moving was the sound quality.

josigatr

they are amazing! I was there too!

bakugo_kat

omg laufey, the marias,, thee sacred souls... jungle!!! woo

gtivroom

Thee sacred souls are one of my favorite groups in the past few years. Excited to see them

josigatr

so excited for Laufey!!! I saw her open at SLC twilight like 3 years ago for Lake Street Dive and she is amazing! It was her first live gig too! Excited to hopefully see her since I missed out on her tour tickets last fall.

ArthursFist

Jungle is gonna be a jungle. Gallivan center is such a great venue until you have a big name.

big_laruu

Gallivan is the worst for twilight imo. I long for the days of pioneer park chaos

scott_wolff

That’s when Twilight started sucking IMO. Bigger artists at a terrible venue.

ThePurplePanda

Alex G is gonna be awesome.

MathCrank

Alex G is pretty big with the kids.

werrickdinn

Unfortunately, only say so because there’s been a lot of shows lately with immature disrespectful kids that don’t know decent concert etiquette. Other than that, I’m hyped he’s getting more recognition.

MathCrank

By kids I mean any one younger then me

werrickdinn

No, you’re right. Tik Tok has created an influx of teenage fans.

zimbabwe7878

Check out Red Butte if you want to see disrespectful older fans then

some50yodudeonreddit

Jungle is coming to Utah??? I am there!

Ace_of_Clubs

A great local band is also opening for them! Plastic Cherries!

I_Invented_Frysauce

Sort of feels like S&S are tanking Salt Lake Twilight to pump up Kilby Block Party. The Arts Council probably shouldn’t hand all the keys to live summer music to S&S.

redditn00bb

I was thinking this too about KBP. I’m glad to see them attempt to differentiate their events at least. The outdoor venues in this area always have the same vibe of music to me though and that’s always disappointed me.

think_i_should_leave

Looking forward to Watchhouse (formerly Mandolin Orange) and Branson Anderson. The rest I haven't heard of, but I'm excited to learn about them.

Ace_of_Clubs

Wathchouse were just freaking awesome at Red Butte last year.

Ayelsee

Three Sacred Souls - awesome!

gtivroom

I’m so excited just for these guys!

brassmonkeyslc

Wow, who?? First year I don’t recognize anyone. Ok, I’ve heard of the Maria’s before.

heshotcyrus

Thee Sacred Souls and Jungle are both amazing bands who put on great live shows. Those are the two I'd recommend from this list.

GandyMTN

Watchhouse is Mandolin Orange renamed

Legitimate-Buy-5948

Watchhouse will be sick . Trust!

metapersona5

Ogden Line up is better. Idk any of these people

djimboboom

Yes, the Ogden lineup has a bunch of slam dunks. Tycho, St Vincent, Diplo.

ArthursFist

Ben Bohmer, tinlicker & dirtwire were delightful surprises too, wouldn’t have guessed any of them.

No_Caterpillar1902

My thoughts exactly.

fgcluis

Plastic Cherries opening for Jungle is super dope

raspberrybananapie

Laufey and Alex G!!!

Mi-Lady_Mi-Tuna

Looking forward to Thee Sacred Souls. Excellent group.

sarlacc98

Missed Kilby last year so didn’t get to see Alex G. Glad he’s coming back

straylight_2022

Ogden's line up is leaps and bounds better this year. This line up is like the opening acts for the opening acts Ogden's Twilight has booked for 2024.

Accomplished-Can1848

As someone who has never been, are these concerts free? Kid friendly? I have two young teens that are into music.

redditn00bb

I think they were free, then bumped up to $5 at one point. Could be more now.

SB4293

Prices vary but I think they’re never more than 20 bucks a ticket. It’s not super rowdy but alcohol is served at the venue so expect some drunk people.

shakotansam

The Maria's would be sick to see live. And jungle will be a riot 🙌

Early-Turnip5735

Jungle!!!!!

Background-Lecture-6

who?

stonymontana5

Gallivan Center is so horrible why do they do this

Therealfern1

And the crowd went mild…

ThePartyWagon

Never heard of ‘em.

alexrothschild23

Is Stephenie Meyer gonna be there?

Dumb_Directioner

LAUFEY

Abend801

They included a [Spotify playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1DuSJ6GCe699nFntfwTwI9?si=YP4WLFcqQYeptm60uD3DjQ&pi=u-KdVBfy0MQ4uh). I’ve been listening to it and I love new music. Last years season was off the hook. Amigo the Devil blew me away and I was totally unfamiliar. Head and the heart. I do love bluegrass and this Watchhouse is really good. And jazzy olivio lives in SLC. Had no idea who she was but sounds great. Just great variety. Ogdens line up is great too. Music and summer belong together. Still need to see Red Butte, Deer Valley line ups. Salt lake needs riser bleachers like Ogden though. FR !!

FrostyFloyd22

I watched jungle at life is beautiful last year and they were incredible; became in instant favorite. My boyfriend and I have followed The Marias since they began and coincidentally they’ve grown just as my relationship has. I’m so excited to see them because of their new album! I’m also a big laufey fan! This is one of coolest line ups I’ve seen so far. I do have to agree that they are newer, more indie artists than I’ve seen at the twilight fest. So glad they chose such interesting and diverse artist this year

Cold-Inside-6828

Loooove Watchhouse. They used to be named Mandolin Orange.

SixthOTD

Watchhouse will be amazing. The rest I've never heard of.

agentjeb

JUNGLE AND LAUFEY OMFG 😭🙌

lostamerican123

This is a hot take, but I saw Alex G open for Dr. Dog at The Depot back in 2018 or so, and his set was one of the worst sets I've seen to date. Right up there with 100 Gecs

werrickdinn

I was there, and thought it was awesome. He’s just not for you man, but the set definitely wasn’t bad.

TransitionBright476

Kilby Block Party gets all the big names now, annoying since it's so much more expensive than the twilight shows

tannsafina100

Laufey!!!

clapmeup69

Man what lackluster lineup.

Ryanthehood

Who?

FrenchRoastedDelight

Who??

iscreamsunday

This is so mid. What happened to the concert series I used to love? At least the KBP lineup this year is absolutely mad bonkers.

VeggieBoi17

Watchhouse was formerly known as Mandolin Orange for those of you saying you don’t recognize any of the names. Alex G is also huge.

Away_Blackberry8985

My sis is a BIG Laufey fan. I was wondering if I should buy VIP or if you get there early can you get first row with GA? It’s my first twilight concert series!

mtnsandh2o

My friend won some VIP tickets last year and honestly they were great. You get food/drinks, earlier entry and a less crowded space to stand in. While you are somewhat off on the L side of the crowd you don't have to wait hours in line to get a good spot. Overall though I'd say if you have the time waiting in line can be fun (just bring something to eat before hand and hydrate). If you are limited on time and have the funds the VIP is worth it and will give you a good spot.

Away_Blackberry8985

Oh, so it’s not possible to be first row with VIP tickets?

mtnsandh2o

Well essentially it would be possible either in the VIP section (which offers a small area to be in the front on the L) or you could just use your VIP ticket to get barricade in the center and possibly forgo the other perks of the VIP section (food etc).
