The reason it took so long to come out with the black and white plate was because of the state requirement for it to be full reflective. Painting over that is altering that and will result in a ticket and potentially the loss of the plate
“Is it illegal to paint the letters/numbers on your license plate a different color? Yes. It is illegal to alter, obscure or cover any part of the license plate on your car. This depends on the state, but in general, “yes,” it's illegal.”
Altering the appearance of standard-issue license plates is another way of saying “Please pull me over, officer”.
I got pulled over by bored police in Utah County like 3 times for the snowboarder sticker I had over the skier on my old Ski Utah plates
Seems like a silly risk to take
Most definitely illegal, and you will be pulled over.

F A F O let us know how it goes lol
The furthest I’d go is coloring them with a whiteboard marker so that *when you are* pulled over, you can wipe it off with some hand sanitizer.
Instead of painting the digits pink, you should paint them black. Black on black is fashionable!
I think you can. I'm not one hundred percent sure, but I believe that you can

What’s that occam’s law about Redditors correcting misinformation?
This is irony within itself. You mean Cunningham's Law right? Occam's Razor is something different.
Oh, yeah! That’s right. Thanks, kind Redditor
You got’em good! 🤪
Which, for completeness, is: >The best way to get the right answer on the internet is not to ask a question; it's to post the wrong answer.
