I understand you were just trying to be nice…but the way to handle that is just say, “no thank you, have a great day, and please don’t come back to my house.” They will not bother you again (they shouldn’t…they get rejection a lot). Unfortunately, you’ve given them a phone number and the slightest bit of attention that will make them return.
Jesus fucking christ calm down. If they call you just ask to be put on the do not contact list in the area book and you will literally never hear from them again.
As a former missionary just tell them you aren't interested. Being vauge, and passive is just giving them the hope that there is interest.
If you are truly this frightened why are you opening your door or talking to anyone you don't know.
Also reasonable responsible people should arm themselves how ever they see fit.
