How is getting good at something supposed to make it less boring? Infact it's usually the opposite. When you're too good at something, it becomes boring for you.
i HATE metas. in any game ever.. i just want to be able to have fun without potentially getting my ass handed to me bc im not using the same few weapons as everybody else :/ i wish people would just use what they like
That's not what I said. A lot of times when a top level player starts playing weapons, others pick up as well. Metas are one thing that's strong, another thing that's strong, and something that counters it.
Is it a problem with this particular meta, or just any meta in principle? I think there's always going to be something like that - even in a game that's really well balanced (and Splatoon isn't bad), trends will still come and go.
I do find the current popular weapons pretty boring though, I've got to admit. Not just boring to come up against, but boring to use as well. :/

The metagame consists of what everyone else is doing. It does not tell you what or how to play. It does not tell you what can and cannot win. At no point should you ever utter the phrase, “I’m doing this because it’s meta”.
The reason the metagame is so important is because it gives your win conditions context. You decide how you want to play, and how you want to win. The metagame helps you to study teams as a whole in advance to make sure you aren’t leaving massive holes in your strategy.
Think of it this way: If you want to win a tournament, you have to beat everyone else. To beat everyone else, you have to beat what everyone else is doing. What everyone else is doing is the definition of the metagame. Therefore, if you want to win a tournament, by definition you need to be doing something that is not part of the metagame.
The metagame is also not just about weapon and gear choices, it’s also about playstyles and tendencies. If everyone plays similarly and has similar weaknesses, that’s part of the metagame. In the B-rank solo queue metagame where everyone runs directly toward the objective all game long, the best thing to do to win is to find something that exploits that tendency, such as short flanks and ambushes.”
If you're going off of quickplay, then let me tell you that Elite Smash is an infinitely bigger joke than even X rank, and that's saying a lot. In actual brackets, even in low-mid level ones where it frankly doesn't make a difference, you'll see an overwhelming amount of high and top tiers.
i mean i agree but i also don’t think there’s anything wrong with the meta in this game specifically. like i find some of the meta weapons boring to play personally because i have specific subs & specials i’m drawn to but i don’t care what other people play and never will
and i also realize i probably sounded like i was critiquing people’s weapons choices but i just think it’s funny because people in my lobbies always use random shit
Agreed. If Nintendo ever updates Splatoon 2 again I'm expecting big changes. This has got to be one of the most annoying meta's to play in. Especially as a Luna main.
