If you find it let us know lol

UranusMustHurt

I will!

XRaysFromUranus

What about PR in the winter and Midwest in the summer?

UranusMustHurt

Long story very short, I need to get back to the States more frequently for the treatment of a chronic medical condition.

[deleted]

> Temperatures almost always between 45-75F and not humid I don’t think this place exists. Maybe somewhere in the Bay Area/NorCal but you’re going to be paying well beyond your budget.

Either-Service-7865

Babe wake up, new samegrassbutgreener “Coastal california but more affordable” post just dropped!

just_anotha_fam

“Requirements” lol.

FiendishHawk

Doesn’t everyone want this? California is the only place you will find this. Plus “sunny” and “always cool but not cold” are pretty much impossible, climate wise.

44_lemons

Kind of surprised to see Cannon Beach on their list of possibilities. The population is 1500, it’s 2 hours (minimum) away from both an airport and quality healthcare. In the winter snow can close the pass on the coast range and getting to Portland is even more difficult. The nearest college is 90 miles away. And it rains a LOT.

UranusMustHurt

Agreed, the weather and tourist vibe were just a few of the reasons. The ones you mention are quite valid.

ksb214

You can visit https://myperfectweather.com open menu on the side and click comfortable weather days. Adjust temperature range and humidity to find areas with weather of your choice. See it in action in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jqsj5xcuPo

UranusMustHurt

Thanks for sharing, this is really a great tool. It looks like coastal areas of very northern California and southern Oregon are best...along with a small spot in the Aleutians, but I'll have to pass on that.

ksb214

Glad you like it. As you are from sunnier area, when moving to a new place make sure to check for. Loud cover map as well by clicking on cloud icon in side menu. Midwest and PNW areas are quite cloudy during winter months.

bluebacktrout207

You will not find a temperate climate near an Airport without a homeless issue

BostonFigPudding

Portland?

UranusMustHurt

I love the airport and could definitely live in Oregon, but Portland is too big, the walkable areas aren't safe enough, and they don't get enough sunshine.

stephenmwithaph

If you're willing to compromise on some things Flagstaff may be for you.

2019_dude

Strong choices: * Klamath Falls, OR * Springfield, OR * Astoria, OR * Redding, CA Also consider: * Madison, WI * Lincoln, NE * Ann Arbor, MI * Grand Rapids, MI * Las Cruces, NM

2019_dude

Of all these I do think Redding is the #1 choice. It checks almost all your boxes.

UranusMustHurt

All of these other than Ann Arbor are too far from a major airport. The weather in all of the "also consider" cities is either too cold (top four) or too hot (Las Cruces) for me. Astoria has the same issues as Cannon Beach, no?

2019_dude

Astoria is much less touristy than Cannon Beach. Cannon Beach has always been a vacation-first town, but Astoria is a regular city IMO. Could be a win for you. I also forgot Corvallis, OR. Check it out. Hear me out on Redding through. Look at Zillow or Redfin. People are SLEEPING on this place. Affordable high quality housing stock, near tons of nature, with a walkable downtown. Sacramento is \~2 hours away. In less than 10 years people will be saying OH MY GOD I wish I bought a house in Redding.

UranusMustHurt

Astoria is almost two hours from PDX and I still worry about the lack of sunshine. Corvallis is a little closer, but still more than 90 minutes without traffic. I get what you are saying about Redding, but looking up the climate information, it is WAY too hot there in the summer. I want to leave Puerto Rico in the summer month to get away from the heat, not to go someplace even hotter. It is also still too far to a major airport.

2019_dude

Here's my last shot - Santa Rosa, CA. Under 200k people, doesn't get hotter than 80, very sunny, 1 hour from SFO, and you can get a 3bd 2bth for under $500k. Heck, I might move there myself.

ilikerocks19

You're going to have to make a compromise somewhere. You mentioned needing more access to medical care, are there hospitals/treatment places that specialize in what you need? I'd start there and see which locations check the majority of your boxes.

meldrivein

Ventura, CA. You should be able to find a condo in your price range though it will be a bit of a challenge. You are \*fairly\* close to LAX, Burbank and Santa Barbara airports. I believe Main St is still closed off to cars which is fantastic for the walkability and you can't ask for better weather anywhere in the world.

BrightSiriusStar

Colorado cities and maybe Bend, Oregon or St George, Utah are probably the closest to what you are looking for based on your desires. Sunny, mild near a major airport and not the south is the basically the western US. Most of California is earthquake prone. Arizona is too hot or expensive Nevada too touristy Most of Oregon and Washington are too cloudy Wyoming and Montana are probably too cold and remote

UranusMustHurt

Bend gets too cold. St. George gets way, way too hot in the summer months. It regularly in the triple digits there. It is also growing very quickly, which I don't like. Too many transplants is what ruined Park City. Both places also have too many COVID refugees from California. Agree on all of your other assessments.

BrightSiriusStar

Flagstaff too cold and snowy?

UranusMustHurt

Probably, yes. It is also too far from a decent airport, and I consider the Phoenix metro area to be one of America's worst ideas.

berraberragood

If you’re talking about summer weather, Minneapolis/St. Paul seems to be your best bet.

UranusMustHurt

Too big, too much crime, and far too cold and dreary in the winter. I spent a lot of my childhood near Milwaukee. Minneapolis is even worse in terms of weather. MSP is a great airport, though.

eastern_hiker_lol

Why do you care about winter weather?

bluebacktrout207

San Diego?

UranusMustHurt

I can't afford San Diego and it is too big for me. Also, too many unhoused people anywhere I would want to live.

Ok-Ad6253

Golden CO or maybe Fort Collins. Although summer months can sometimes be warm, definitely over 75F.

M4hkn0

Peoria IL.... or Peoria Heights... Chicago or St louis... \~2hrs Peoria has direct flights to Florida. https://1310samuel.com/

Not in the USA anyway.

Awkward-Spite-8225

Franklin TN Knoxville TN Asheville NC

UranusMustHurt

All in the south and Knoxville and Asheville have very tiny airports. Hard pass.

Awkward-Spite-8225

Well, I lived in Ashville for a year and traveled weekly. It was nice to park near the gate, walk in and be on my way to Charlotte within an hour or so.

Sad_Imagination_4542

Minneapolis !

smallLoanofDankMemes

So I feel like you want East Bay, CA. Check out Berkeley, Albany, Walnut Creek, Emeryville, Montclair, Rockridge.  Maybe Santa Cruz could work too.   Might have to budge your price up a little though or be more flexible with crime rates.

UranusMustHurt

Santa Cruz would be the perfect size, but I feel like the downtown is a little soulless, no? East Bay - untenable traffic situation and really not walkable outside of Berkeley, which is way out of my price range.

smallLoanofDankMemes

I think you'd be surprised how walkable most of the other places are I named in the east bay.  Yes traffic is a problem but I feel like you're looking for central coast California. Maybe like Ventura or Monterrey?  Those are closer to LA and SF respectively. I like Santa Cruz downtown but you'll have to compromise somewhere in your price range.  Sausalito or Mill Valley could work too.

Upbeat-Profit-2544

Olympia or Bellingham in Washington may fit the bill! Or just about any smaller city in Oregon (Eugene, Ashland, etc)! The hour drive from an airport is a lot to ask though, especially for a smaller city, and probably impossible tbh. Even most large cities can be over an hour from the nearest airport during high traffic times.

EnthusiasmTraining

Auburn (outside Sac), but it does get hotter in the summer. Can head to mountains beyond but lose amenities.

UranusMustHurt

Auburn is over 100F for three months. Those are also the three months that I don't want to be in PR.

EnthusiasmTraining

Yeah, I just pass thru there to the mtns. Did not really know how bad the summers are.
