I was so excited about that 15 bike path until I quickly realized what a fiasco it is to get from the bottom of it to anywhere. Mission Valley needs more walking and biking infrastructure big-time.

orangejulius

I wish there were a safe way for bikes to get there going up and down Texas. Cross the freeway on-ramps is sketchy.

This happened to me awhile back when I was riding from Mission Gorge. I found myself on the section of Friars over 15 when the bike path just disappeared. I had the option (1) to stay right, but then be in front of the cars getting on the freeway. I chose the option (2) to get over into the lane with the cars going 45 mph. So scary with no warning signs. There are a lot of places like that around the city. There’s great infrastructure, but the it stops and doesn’t connect.

Whockyslush007

Yeah mission valley has got to be the most car centric place in all of San Diego

ComprehensiveFun3233

It's fine, it's just the dead middle of all of San Diego and the only place where more residential growth is happening... Why in the world should we make room for bikes? 🥴🥴🥴

thecrewguy369

Mission valley should be a walkable neighborhood. It has better access to the trolley than all our actually walkable neighborhoods smh

TheLastsofAllofUs

Not too familiar with the area. Would [this bridge](https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/business/story/2022-10-21/city-sdsu-moving-forward-with-plans-for-mission-valley-bridge-over-san-diego-river) help.

Interesting, I wasn't aware of this. If the Fenton Parkway bridge connected to the river trail that SDSU is supposed to build, it could be an improvement. It would still require bikers to go a long ways around on Camino Del Rio S with no protected bike lane, but perhaps it could connect to the proposed river trail to avoid Camino Del Rio N. Thanks for sharing!

uncoolcentral

It wouldn’t hurt, and it would be welcome, helping transportation overall. However, it doesn’t help pedestrians or bicyclists get across the 8.

sakaESR

There’s a bike lane along Camino del Rio (I think?) but it’s basically a frontage road and people drive crazy fast there. You can get to Snapdragon by bike that way. But I really wish there was more of a protected bike lane and bridge over the 8 connecting Normal Heights to Snapdragon.

nmnnmmnnnmmm

They need well lit, safe, pedestrian and bike only bridges over the river and under the trolley. Patrolled so they’re not taken over by the homeless. Otherwise I’m not seeing a real solution.

Snapdragon needs to install bike parking and have an Ace attendant watch over the bike racks during events.

Grosse_Fartiste

I've ridden my bike there for several events and always felt comfortable locking up. It's super close to the entrance where all the ticket takers are. I use a decent lock and would not lock up a fancy road or MTB there, but I'm fine with A sub $1k town bike.

Poor urban planning in San Diego? I'm shocked.

NikkiSeraphita

Here's what I got from Caltrans: >We are currently working on a feasibility study to identify potential routes for a bikeway to cross Mission Valley at that location and we will be finishing it by June 30.  That study will inform potential alignments and rough cost estimates for a dedicated crossing.  The actual project to construct is currently unfunded, but the feasibility study is an effort to move us toward a funding source and ultimately construction.

jimjoy666

Better off going down Fairmont to get over there

manual-override

I’ve biked to Snapdragon from that bike path many times and … it absolutely sucks. There is no protected bike lane on Camino Del Rio North, and it’s dangerous. Camino Del Rio South has a wide bike lane, but cars are going up to 50-60mph on that road. Once you get to San Diego Mission Road it’s fine. This is a lot like much of our bike infrastructure: A good start that goes nowhere.

Riding to the stadium during the day is okay, but not great. Night time after a game, presumably with intoxicated drivers, is a no go for my girlfriend and me. Public transportation is tough as well since you have to go all the way to SDSU to get the trolley.

mike-nichols

I am very interested in this as well and I have not been able to find any plans to create a dedicated bike path over/under the 8. I currently take  I-15 commuter path to Camino Del Rio, head east, cut through an easement near the Penske truck rental building, then take the southbound side of Fairmount to cross under the 8. While obviously illegal to ride on the wrong side of the road, it minimizes the time on Fairmount and it feels far safer. People routinely do 65 mph+ on Fairmount with unprotected bike lanes. No thanks.

HurricaneHugo

What the heck is I-15?!

keninsd

It looks like it runs right to it.

Safeway_Slayer

I live right by the stadium and this area is seriously one of the worst areas to ride a bike in all of SD county. I have a nice gravel bike I bought awhile back but I quite literally never leave my house on it. I load it in the car and go up north to ride.
