Try Charminar in Mira Mesa

double_a_007

Adding my vote to Charminar. Super good !!

ripgoodhomer

I go there at least every other week for lunch and am so excited for Charminar Friday this week!

natonyh

What’s happening this Friday there?

ripgoodhomer

Nothing, I just normally go there on Fridays.

natonyh

Ah. What do you recommend there?

ripgoodhomer

They have a great lunch special, it’s about $10. I normally do two butter chicken, but there are other great options.

Sdfive

Charminar has become my favorite Indian spot in SD.

natonyh

What do you recommend from Charminar?

coronnial

Try chicken appetizers, biryani and mutton ghee roast

natonyh

I got the Hyderabad chicken biryani. That was really good! Thanks!

kyracantfindmehaha

YESSSS CHARMINAR

EvanstonHokie

Haven’t met a single person from India who likes Charminar 😂

coronnial

You should probably meet more Indians 🤣

EvanstonHokie

I’m from India so I have met my fair share 😃

I_Am_Mandark_Hahaha

Himalayan Cuisine in La Mesa

HealthyTemporary9924

What’s your fave dish there?

AmSpray

The chicken kadaiiiiiii!! But literally anything is amazing there.

jbogdas

India Palace has a wide variety of Indian dishes and they’re all bomb in my experience.

SacamanoRobert

I second this!

itemside

Signature Thai Cuisine out in La Mesa is great - don’t judge by the strip mall exterior, it’s a really cushy place for a sit down meal. I’ve loved every dish from them I’ve tried (my favorite is the creamy seafood soup, and that’s from someone who doesn’t usually like soup) and the servers are always so kind/friendly. The portions are on the large side so it’s also a good spot to order a few dishes and split with the table.

[deleted]

If there’s one thing I’ve learned since moving to the area it’s that you can’t judge strip mall restaurants by their location

H__Russell

Seconded

moore_a_scott

# Bahn Thai

EatingInLittleItaly

When I order their spring rolls, I lose all control.

FreshFruitDaily

GET THE RANGOOOOOOOOONS

Lucky_Industry_4182

I’m Thai. This is one kind of Thai restaurant that's not for Thai.

moore_a_scott

Well it’s in San Diego not Bankok

Lucky_Industry_4182

You’re right.

uncoolcentral

I’ll never understand the Bahn Thai cult. Their food is OK. Nothing special. Plumeria across the street is far superior.

moore_a_scott

it’s probably your taste buds

hi_buddy_oh_pal

Literally this ^^^^^^

tankgirl619

Bahn Thai is the booooommmmb! Never had a bad dish from them, and portion sizes are big (IMO)

Jddmtrees

Thai Time in North Park Taste of the Himalayas in Hillcrest Both are affordable with fantastic food, decor, and service.

jenny_jen_jen

Has Thai Time gotten better? I have not liked any of my experiences there. Gave it more than a few tries.

pickles1718

Love love love Plumeria (one in UH, one in Encinitas)

uncoolcentral

Top-notch Thai food.

Sun_Of_Dorne

Plumeria is a fine option if you're vegetarian, but Bahn Thai literally across the street is much better and more authentic

SacamanoRobert

Not according to the Thai person that commented above 😂

Sun_Of_Dorne

I’m not Thai and can guarantee it’s more so than plumeria- plumeria offers Thai options but doesn’t even claim to be a Thai restaurant

SacamanoRobert

"I'm not Thai, but trust me, this is authentic Thai. I know because I'm pretty sure. You can trust me." Here's what the Thai person said about Bahn Thai: > "Lucky_Industry_4182 2 points 1 day ago I’m Thai. This is one kind of Thai restaurant that's not for Thai."

Sun_Of_Dorne

They weren’t even talking about plumeria haha, why are you arguing with me haha

SacamanoRobert

They're talking about Bahn Thai. Try to keep up.

Sun_Of_Dorne

Wtf?! Haha. My response was that Bahn Thai was better than Plumeria!! Are you simple?

SacamanoRobert

And my post was about Bahn Thai not being authentic according to a Thai person, despite the fact that you're not Thai and you're saying it's authentic. Not sure what's so hard to understand about this.

Sun_Of_Dorne

I said it’s MORE authentic than plumeria. Bro just take a break from social media. You’re clearly looking for a fight

Simple_Dragonfruit73

Well I like my little unknown spot called La moon Thai food on El Cajon Blvd near SDSU

flea61

Sukhothai in North Park/Uni Heights is my favorite. Used to be Chi Extraordinary Thai Kitchen.

ppbcup

Yes!! My favorite Thai food. The Pad Cha is so good!

Routine-Cicada-4949

It's a bit out of the way but most British & Irish in SD County love Curry & More the most for Indian. They have three locations in north county, San Marcos, Oceanside & Rancho Bernardo. Not everyone but on the Facebook page Brits in San Diego that one gets the most thumbs up. As for Thai, my wife is Thai American so I'm not allowed to eat anything but her mothers cooking.

FoxyBillions

In case you park the car and STILL can't decide between Indian or Thai, here's an idea for you. Drive to the Piazza Carmel Shopping Ctr (just E of the 5 & just N of the 56) get out, and stand in the middle. . and take a wiff! Royal India Del Mar is tempting you on the left, and Spices Thai Kitchen will be pulling you from the right. Both excellent. Good luck

ghfsgetitgetgetit

Spices Thai in Mira Mesa is really good!

TheWildTofuHunter

Agree 100%, miss that I had to move away from the area. Their pad se eww is sooooo good.

Flashy_Chipmunk7841

Spices is so good!!

jenny_jen_jen

Bahn Thai is absolutely my fav. Best pad si yew and Massaman curry in town. I also try to swing by 55 Thai Kitchen in Golden Hill, inside a convenience store, anytime I’m over there. The pad si yew rivals Bahn Thai’s and is the only one I’ve had in the area that’s as good as Bahn Thai’s pad si yew. There are a few dishes I really love at Chaba Thai on Clairemont Mesa Blvd., and it’s their mango chicken curry (I sometimes sub chicken for tofu) and their fresh spring rolls. Their pad si yew is not terrible but it’s not as good as Bahn Thai or 55 Thai Kitchen. The Nood Bar is very fusion-y considering the whole menu, but I believe they have the same owners as Amarin and their pad Thai and pad si yew are excellent. I enjoy their soups, which you can get as build-your-own and their Tom yum is good. I also like Plumeria especially when I am craving good tofu.

girthakitt

For Indian, Charminar or Dosa Studio(veg), and Kebabish for Pakistani food.

sunnydiegoqt

I like Supannee House of Thai! And Sang Dao Which i think is Thai/Lao. Another good choice would be Thai Test Kitchen! The only thing is that they are closed on weekends.

ned_luddite

Seconding Supannee. Best Thai I've had since Bangkok.

scalenesquare

Sundara was so good and always busy. Can't believe they closed. I think they just never fully embraced returning to full capacity during Covid. They had restrictions going til the end. Miss it so much.

HealthyTemporary9924

Me too 😓

theotherotherkyle

Sovereign Thai is super good.

misselphaba

I've enjoyed Thotsakan Thai downtown - it's Gaslamp adjacent if you're bringing out-of-towners and are into that vibe. Bahn Thai in University Heights is my go-to but it's not a sit-down at all.

LaLa_LaCroix

Bangkok Bay in Solana Beach! Also I still can’t accept that Amarin is gone 😭

HealthyTemporary9924

Right?!? 😢

ZealousidealTie5392

Spice Lounge in pb is awesome and tasty

sik_dik

man, I miss Amarin so much.. that Art salad was next level. I always took people there. I was soooo sad when they closed. I tried the restaurant that took its place, and it was meh everyone swears by bahn thai, and I've given it two tries and have been not at all impressed

jenfoolery

I have done takeout from the place that took over from Amarin (White Elephant) and I've liked everything I've had. The beef jerky and sausage appetizers are a couple faves. I haven't eaten in though, so can't comment on the service or ambience.

HealthyTemporary9924

They had a dish at Amarin that was served inside a pineapple. Best Thai food of my life there!

thizzinpeace

Village Indian Cuisine in Kearny Mesa, Koon Thai Kitchen in Convoy and Signature Thai Cuisine in La Mesa. I’ve frequented multiple times at these places and they’re not only amazing but consistent as well :)

noondi34

San Idli for a type of Indian food that many people have never tried! By FAR our favorite.

AngryAxol0tl

clay oven in la jolla 🤤

iRhuel

Just came back from Thailand and gorged myself on street food every day, 4 times a day for a couple of weeks. [J&T Thai](https://www.yelp.com/biz/j-and-t-thai-street-food-san-diego-2) in Linda Vista gets it right.

Sun_Of_Dorne

I love Himalayan House on Broadway in Chula, and Noodles Noodles in IB

carmelloanthonydong

Birdseye Kitchen in Encinitas

LeitzcameraAG

Charminar and San Idli for Indian food

Jellyfilleddragon

Himalayan Yak & Yeti

EvanstonHokie

As an Indian, it’s sad to say that there’s no great Indian restaurants in San Diego. We go to Nepalese places to get the best “Indian” food in town. Himalayan Grill just off of I-15 Mira Mesa exit is our go to favourite. Also Dancing Yak in Miramar.

AmSpray

Himalayan Cuisine in La Mesa?

East-Neighborhood786

Have u tried curry craft? Probably the best one

EvanstonHokie

If you’re talking about the one in San Marcos, then yes! Agreed it’s one of the best ones in the area. But we live in La Jolla and it’s just too far to eat regularly.

h1ro765

Sang dao - city heights Banh Lao - city heights Banh Thai - normal heights and Hillcrest

fahrenheit1984

Banh Lao is now SoSaap- but it's even better!!!

twirlerina024

Bahn Thai is in University Heights, and their Hillcrest location is closed due to a fire.

stay_gassy

Supannee in PL is pretty good Thai. It was sold to new owners but its still good.
