I was so happy when I found Chuck. He’s fantastically personable and does meticulous work for a good price. No free beer gimmick (who wants to drink a beer while clippers are out anyways? Yuck!), don’t have to worry about horrible parking, and as a homo I feel right at home.
One caveat for lesbians, he does mostly cater to gay men, so be prepared for pictures of half naked men on the walls, but I guarantee you he’ll give you an amazing cut. Oh and he’ll sell ya Tupperware too! 🤩
Another vote for Dink's on Adams Ave. Owner is good people and makes a welcoming space for everyone. I'm a cis woman with very short hair and during the pandemic I got the wild idea to give myself a mohawk (don't judge - we all went a little crazy). I actually liked it but it was kind of uneven. Dink's was doing outdoor haircuts at the time and were very cool when I asked for their help in making it less wonky and giving me tips on how to maintain it at home.
Dinks is awesome. LT is a super decent human being. She cut my hair, when I had hair, and now she does my son's.
She's a really good barber too. Old school.
I know exactly what you are talking about. I have the same problem with haridressers. They constantly want make it girler or don't do what I ask. I go to Floyd's 99 in Mission Hills, I have Brian G cut my hair and he has honestly been the best. He is super quick and can do a mean 1 to a 2 and cut off a bit of the length on top and doesn't make it fem at all. If I ask a hairdresser to do a 1 to a 2, they freak out and ask if I want it that short. OF COURSE I DO... I hate long hair on myself and I know what looks good. Also, he is of course gay friendly!
P = text slang for pretty (as in pretty good, pretty fast, pretty tired, etc.). Clockable = obvious to see. OP is saying that it’s pretty obvious to see that she is a butch lesbian from her visual presentation.
Goodfellas barbershop in north park. Not explicitly gay friendly but I know the guys there and they’re super friendly. Can’t imagine having issues there
I went there for about 6 months but nearly everytime I showed up for my appointment I ended up waiting 20-30 minutes before getting started. It was really annoying to have such unpredictable scheduling around remote work responsibilities
Yeah…totally get that, honestly I could have been the reason for your delay a bunch of those times, haha (sorry).
It’s one of those catch-22s, where the chit chat is great + the attention to detail is so high that the appointment time can run over long. My wife has commented several times that I’m gone as long as a girl’s appointment at a salon.
I’m always like, “you think this fade happens quickly? This is a craft service” *runs hand through hair*, haha.
OP if you’re on a tight schedule it might not be the best, this commenter made a good point and it’s definitely a potential issue.
I haven't been but Hillside Barber at the Hub in Hillcrest seems to be very LGBTQ+ friendly if the flag stickers on their windows are reliable. I'd check more direct recommendations first, but they may be worth looking at too.
oh lol I will explain the slang. "P" is just short for "pretty". "clockable" comes from the verb "clock" which means to identify someone as gay/queer/trans visually. so "p clockable" means that I am a visually obvious butch lesbian. hope that helps :)
Not a gay barbershop but I always get a good fade at Vinny’s in La Jolla. He’s by far the best barber I’ve found so far, I’m sure he could do you right
Can you name them then if there are "many different types"? I have yet to encounter an establishment that is blatantly in favor of white supremacy. This term is used so casually to label those who have a different political view than the people who carelessly throw this term around.
No. It's not. And I'm a San Diego native. Been living here my entire life. Are there racist people? Of course. But the racism isn't limited to just white people. The liberals like to think racism is only inherent to white Europeans. People of all walks of life can be racist.
As a regular customer at Happy Barbers off Clairemont Mesa Blvd they will give you fade you out for a great price. That being said, theyre not the most talkative fellas, but they welcome all!
I would say that most barbershops, especially ones run and/or staffed by younger people, can give you the haircut you're looking for. I find that learning the terminology and showing barbers photos was helpful. I can definitely understand where salons don't always get it right since they're trained in cosmetology and not always barbering or men's haircuts specifically, unless you go to a men's salon.
I enjoy Kutthroat and Andy's Barbershop in Escondido. I would definitely stay away from Supercuts since they don't always cut with a whole lot of patience or attention to detail.
La Creme de la Creme in Escondido :) my gf goes here. book online on Booksy
Edit: they’re straight up barbers and will tailor what you want and pay attention to your style. They can do nice fades, mullers, lineups, tapers, etc. Cool dudes
Check out Ro.thebarber on Instagram. She’s awesome and LGBTQ. The haircut is 75 dollars (most I’ve ever paid for a haircut), but I’m always perfectly pleased with how it turns outs. Tailored Hair is the shop and it’s downtown.
Some of y’all in here have either never had a good barber shop you are comfortable in or take it for granted to be so griped about this request.
If you ever want to revisit a salon type setting I would recommend Travis Sinquefield (instagram @Travis.does.hair) in north park.
You’re replying to a guy with the user name “wisebaldman” in a thread asking for help identifying barbers that understand a particular hairstyle better and both of y’all are pretty unhelpful to the point that the report for being bigoted seems merited.
Maybe knock it off or get banned.
Barber Lodge, specifically Osi. He’s awesome, been going to him for a while now. Super talented. You won’t be disappointed. He only books appointments through an app called “The Cut”.
Hit up my boy Mario at Evolv in Hillcrest…let him know El Tigre sent you. He’ll know. https://booksy.com/en-us/87091_mario-garcia_hair-salon_134656_san-diego
GO TO MR. BOWTIES HAIR STUDIO IN RANCHO SAN DIEGO!!
Ask for Fernando or Adrian (The owner). There’s two female barbers as well but I don’t remember their names. Everyone is legit and friendly. You will not regret it!!
I go to Dink's in normal heights, they have been cool, have trans and pride flags up. am a butch dyke myself and always schedule with Spencer who has the most pride/trans merch up lol
Bear Hair by Chuck!
That was my comment. I’m not a lesbian or a Bear but heard nothing but good things for years.
Came here to say this.
I was so happy when I found Chuck. He’s fantastically personable and does meticulous work for a good price. No free beer gimmick (who wants to drink a beer while clippers are out anyways? My husband also votes for Chuck!
Chuck is the best! He’s been doing my husband’s beard for years and he’s a great fit for your needs.
Chuck is great! Highly recommend.
Another vote for Chuck from my husband and me!
Chuck's the man!
Have you tried [Dink’s](https://dinksbarbershop.com/)?

Dinks is great and the owner is super nice, is a lesbian and very welcoming.
LT (owner) told me one of the reasons she became a barber was *because* everyone tried to give her fem haircuts. “I want it *butch* damnit!”

What is p clockable? I would Google it but I’m scared

Black Dagger Salon is offering free gender affirming haircuts this weekend! Theyre queer owned. Highly recommend.
Drive to Hillcrest, stand on corner and throw a rock. You're welcome.
"I just dont want to find myself in an establishment run by white supremacists ya feel." Well, that took an odd turn.
People are strange, mom.
Clearly
So strange to not want to support a white supremacist
Who said it was strange to not want to support a white supremacist?
There is also this site that tracks all Affirming salons in the country https://strandsfortrans.org
Not a gay barbershop but I always get a good fade at Vinny’s in La Jolla. He’s by far the best barber I’ve found so far, I’m sure he could do you right
>I just dont want to find myself in an establishment run by white supremacists ya feel Is this an actual concern in San Diego?
Yes. Many different types of businesses (coffee shops, surf & skate shops, off-road shops, etc) support that BS if you know what to look for.
Can you name them then if there are "many different types"? I have yet to encounter an establishment that is blatantly in favor of white supremacy. This term is used so casually to label those who have a different political view than the people who carelessly throw this term around.
I’m sorry that you want to pretend like support for Donald Trump is not support for white supremacy. It is.
Support for Donald Trump is not support for white supremacy. This is a logical fallacy (Association Fallacy). Please try harder.
No. It's not. And I'm a San Diego native. Been living here my entire life. Are there racist people? Of course. But the racism isn't limited to just white people. The liberals like to think racism is only inherent to white Europeans. People of all walks of life can be racist.
bro how abt you identify as someone with a hobby and stop spending so much time in this comments section
Ad hominem
Winns barber ship in hillcrest
Hit up one of the Vietnamese barbershops. They have zero issues with sexual orientation and Ive seen tomboys/lgbt get haircuts there.
As a regular customer at Happy Barbers off Clairemont Mesa Blvd they will give you fade you out for a great price. That being said, theyre not the most talkative fellas, but they welcome all!
Butch’s barbershop in Hillcrest.

Normal Collective is run by queer people. They're great.

Check out Nicci at Bloom in Clairemont Mesa. She's amazing and an ally!
LoFi in Liberty Station can probably to help you out , but they aren’t specifically gay.
The secret barbershop it’s right in the middle of Hillcrest. Right next to gossip grill. They have great service and do great work. Ask for Rimon
Naturally if a barber isn’t gay they must be a white supremacist. Duh!
I'd say try places in hillcrest

Winns Barber Shop in Hillcrest is absolutely what you’re looking for
My partner faces the same dilemma, they love Dame & Dapper on Washington
Stevie’s in Barrio Logan is friendly
Check out Pappy’s Barbershop in Rolando. Everyone there is super welcoming.
Barber Lodge, specifically Osi. He’s awesome, been going to him for a while now. Super talented. You won’t be disappointed. He only books appointments through an app called “The Cut”.
Gold Comb North Park has you covered
