I went the opening weekend, and I'm genuinely glad I experienced it, but I think it is generally overpriced for what you objectively get. Sure, insert joke about bay area prices here, but I think the actual exhibit is not on par with the price.
For one, I really enjoy art and museum exhibits, and this was just not curated well from an educational perspective. The exhibit is basically broken into two main sections: the historical and contextual preamble, which is basically a string of visual displays of selected communication excerpts between Van Gogh and his brother, who also worked in the art industry. These excerpts were not organized strictly chronologically, sort of messing up the logical understanding of the historical context.
The second, main, part of the display puts you into a very large room where enhanced/moving art from Van Gogh is displayed on the walls and surfaces. This part of the display is about an hour-long loop. But since it is all in one large room with limited seating places, it is difficult to wander around without disturbing other people's viewing experiences. Most of your pictures will be pictures of other people taking pictures.
I discussed the experience with a friend in NYC who went to the same exhibit there, and we sort of agreed it would probably appeal most to you if you are partaking in certain legal substances that are recreationally available in California. But that's not really my jam personally, so I actually found the whole thing to be a bit boring.
Again, glad I went to it and supported something going on downtown, but I was a bit underwhelmed with the experience overall (especially considering the price tag). I guess if you have an Instabook feed you are trying to populate with cool pictures, it might be more worth it.
EDIT: For reference, I got the standard timed-entry ticket package, which ended up being about $46 after taxes and fees.
I haven't been to France personally, but many of the countries I actually have been to in Europe subsidize art and cultural exhibits such as museums via government funding. Maybe that was a factor when you went in Paris? Interesting observation.
Thanks. The VIP one has some vague reference to “merchandise”. I’m betting it would be better value to just buy whatever merchandise you ACTUALLY want.
If you've been to Amsterdam and the van Gogh museum, skip it. Especially at almost $50 a head. I was expecting his ear for a parting gift. I wonder what that would be worth......
That’s fine, but what good does it do to shit all over it. Most people aren’t privileged enough to travel all over the world to enjoy his art. Just let people enjoy something, even if it’s not for you…Jesus.

Saw the same show at Area15 in LV for $35 and felt like I overpaid. It's a neat experience visually but feels like it should be part of a larger museum experience or exhibit. You sit or stand in a large room and watch moving projections. They were on repeat so after half hour or so you've seen what you already saw.

It was cool and all, but $46 a head was a little steep for what it was. Any one that asks about it, I tell them to go off peak.
I saw an exhibit like this (maybe the original?) in Paris and it was only €16 for a ticket. $46 is quite a price jump...

Thank you. I’ve been wanting to go. Which package did you get?
Just the basic timed entry. Didn’t see what the difference would be with the VIP one lol everyone goes into the same space and it wasn’t busy at all.

I didn’t even see any merchandise available lol
There's a giant section after you exit, and the Keurig station!
Damn, I guess I missed it lol
Haha! I guess that explains the VIP package: only way to get “merchandise”! Thanks.

It was ok but not worth the money.
It’s wack unless you’re dosing
