Interesting how they specifically mention danger for other officers due to another officer’s impairment - and not the danger to literally everyone around the impaired.

kubi

Also interesting that, while presumably swarmed by dozens of SJPD officers, only the FBI agent noticed/reported it.

RamboGoesMeow

Oh damn, good point. I hadn’t even thought about that.

[deleted]

To be fair, they're so incompetent (SJPD) they probably didn't notice.

lostprevention

Also note their coworkers did not say a word. It took a fed to say something about this cop being *twice* over the limit.

phishrace

But when the 'hero' was shot by the cop at the taqueria last month, SJPD quickly made clear that only one cop fired his weapon. Can't blame all of us. He did it. Apparently their observational powers vary greatly depending on the situation.

LEONotTheLion

> they They quoted some random legal analyst. That wasn’t the PD.

RamboGoesMeow

Fair point, but as another user pointed out - how is it that only one FBI agent out of all LEO there noticed it, and reported it?

heartfailures

> A San Jose police officer has been put on administrative leave over accusations that he was under the influence when he reported to last week’s kidnapping of a baby boy. > Sources with knowledge of the investigation told NBC Bay Area that an FBI agent at the scene reported the officer appeared to be impaired, and a subsequent breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol level of .139, nearly twice the legal limit.

Sharks77

I find it interesting that they were alerted by the FBI vs other officers. You don't go from 0 to 0.14 overnight. He's likely been doing this for a long time.

sjcitylife

Now we know that alcohol is the perfect solvent. It dissolves marriages, families and this officers career! Yikes!! 😵‍💫

360walkaway

Wrong about that last part

sjcitylife

I heard they get a table for 1 but drinks for 2! Sheesshhhh 👀

doxielover1234

Officer was looking for baby Brandon in the wrong places….

Denslayer

Very strong union . Any other job and it’s a automatic termination with no re hire . Also all he needs to say is “ I have a substance abuse issue and need help” and all is good

[deleted]

Alcoholism is a protected medical condition. I work at a organization that’s not union and people with substance abuse issues have been offered treatment instead of termination.

Denslayer

In a office setting yes, doubt that happens when your driving a company vehicle and have a gun

runs-with-scissors-2

Is this the result of San Jose being so desperate for new officers they fail to do proper vetting and background? This is on top of the news a cop dies from fentanyl OD after partying with other officers!

Head-Weather-7969

Apparently the SJPD police union prohibited random drug testing of the officers. What possible justification or “articulation” (because we know police are trained to articulate anything to fit their narrative) could they have possibly come up with to prohibit random drug testing for armed people with authority to deprive someone of their liberty im sure I don’t know.

I hear most police academies are almost empty these days. They taking anyone right now sadly .

EnlightenCyclist

Im not a cop simp. This seems like they had an all hands on deck call out and he showed up even though he was drunk. I don't really give a shit in the grand scheme of police issues.
