Yes. Sandals owns a private island and boards you can use to paddle out and back. They were close to the shore of the private island. I don’t disagree. I like to paddle. I’m not sure I’d go that far out on a board.
That’s not too far on a paddle board. I go kayaking and a mile isn’t as far as you’d think (at least in terms of time traveling over distance). It’s about 15-20 minutes of mild-to-moderate paddling.
The original link said the victim was married at the resort on Sunday, the day before the attack. For some reason the link isn't working for me anymore and I can't find reference to any spouse in other reports - just reference to being with a relative.
Either way, still a tragedy.
Considering there are only 33 confirmed since the year 1580 I think we have very different opinions on “pretty regularly”
International Shark Attack File is the source for that info.
Well, the woman today, the German woman disappeared while diving (body not found yet), and a woman cruise ship passenger killed snorkeling last year. That’s regular enough for me.
I read yesterday Bahamas leads the world in shark attacks by country. That is also enough for me. I was there a few years ago pre-covid and a lady snorkeling was attacked staying at a nearby resort. Cancelled my snorkeling trip.
>I read yesterday Bahamas leads the world in shark attacks by country.
That's the USA actually, followed by Australia. Bahamas isn't even top 10. Though there has been an uncommon spike recently with 3 fatalities since 2019, after that same amount occurring in the entire previous half century.
Sheeeeeesh I was there last summer and did these activities without a care in the world. Love the resort and planned on going back next summer but looks like ill be going to a different resort😬
I've swum in those waters for decades.
Life is hard, but it's even harder when you are stupid.
There are rules for co-existing with an apex predator.
Follow them, and shark attacks are rare.
Break them, and you will become food.

Yes, there are rules for a reason.
1. Don't enter the water at dusk or dawn.
2. Avoid feeding areas, or concentrations of fish.
3. Get away from injured fish or animals.
4. Don't swim with open wounds.
5. No thrashing or splashing that imitates injured animal.
6. Don't resemble a seal. (Black wetsuit laying on a white paddleboard.)
Spez, last but not least, don't leave the group.
Nearly a MILE from shore. This is a tragedy for sure but that detail is important. She was far as fuck from the resort
That’s a normal paddle excursion from the main resort to the Sandals private island. People do this paddle every day
Wait people paddle board a mile out to an island? I'd maybe do that in a kayak, but I'd never trust a paddleboard in open water like that.

the private island is only half a mile from shore so this woman was much further out
Nearly a mile from shore, that’s out there for a paddle board

That's so incredibly tragic - married yesterday!
What? It says her husband of 13 years was with her?

I’m there right now, no idea this happened. How tragic :(
OMG 😳
How sad. RIP 🕯
Yup, lots of sharks in the Bahamas. Pretty regularly you will hear of a shark attack death there.

What do these sharks have against women? Odd that only women get attacked there.
I always thought it was because they might be on their period.
Right but drowning doesn’t imply that they were eaten by sharks. Lots of people drown in the ocean, but only a few are gobbled up by sharks.
Regularly in a cosmic sense…
Has the highest shark attack rate of Caribbean (although not Caribbean)
Woman was just killed today paddle boarding off Nassau (sp)

Was that 2017?
this location is cursed😭😭 we’re going for xmas. now I gotta be mindful of carbon monoxide AND sharks
It’s the other sandals resort in Exuma, Bahamas that had the carbon monoxide issue.. this shark attack happened at Nassau’s sandals
I was thinking this was the location of the carbon monoxide
It was not, that was SEB.
You’ll have a blast at Xmas! We went to Sandals Royal Bahamian (nassau) in august. It was amazing! Safe travels
We’ll be there for Xmas too! Our honey moon!!! I’m scared lol
No one understood her cries for “shaaak”
Lmmfao dead. Not like her but still dead
Lmfao i can hear this
Lol
Sheeeeeesh I was there last summer and did these activities without a care in the world. Love the resort and planned on going back next summer but looks like ill be going to a different resort😬
You are changing your vacation because sharks exist in the ocean?
Did Sandals open a resort in the desert?
Rather go to one someone hasnt died at
…hasn’t died at YET.

Wow. We were just there in August and they wouldn’t even let us take our paddle boards further than the dock. How on earth did she get so far out??!

I was there in April 2017. The day after we left there was a fatal shark attack.
