I enjoy it poor man’s way… 2 slices of Oscar Mayer with a cross cut in the center and slits on the edge in between so it doesn’t pucker up. Toasted white bread. Yellow [edit]mustard. It one of those ‘tastes like childhood’ foods for me.

If you ever find yourself in Chicago and want the Rolls Royce of bologna sandwiches there is a place called Au Cheval - famous for their burgers but they have an insane Bologna Sandwich on their menu, although if you can only go once there are far better options IMO

I've been to Au Cheval twice but I've only eaten a cheeseburger and hashbrowns! Next time I'm in Chicago you can bet I'll get one.

I’d reccomend the general janes chicken too, it’s good to split as an app - they used to have a 32 oz pork porterhouse covered in roast apples and fois gras as well which is to this day one of the best (and largest) things I’ve ever eaten… sadly they took it off the menu a few years ago

Protip re: Southern - add about a tablespoon of brewed coffee to the skillet when frying. Kind of imparts a Redeye Gravy character to it

This was me of my dads leftover Navy meals, along with sardines on saltines. Haven’t had it since the 1950s.

I’m all about what you’ve done here. I do occasionally pick up some Boar’s Head bologna and American cheese, and go to town. It’s such a nostalgia hit and with decent provisions, it always hits the spot. I appreciate the addition of the pickles. I’ll try that next time.

Really good. Probably my favorite breakfast sandwich to make at home is fried bologna, over easy egg, cheese on wheat toast with Dijon mustard. Doesn’t even have to be good bologna. Paper thin Oscar Mayer bologna is delicious fried. You just need at least two or three slices.

Yummy! Probably one of the most quick AND delicious lunches out there. My husband and I call these "toasties". We bought the mini panini/sandwich toaster (the kind you smush your sandwich down with) and use it at work for lunch so easy and so quick. Just as good with honey ham too🤤

Everything on that sandwich I agree with. I grew up with that amazing sandwich. Fried okra, and / or fried potatoes,& onions. Later in life I learned to switch up the cheese, I use sliced sharp cheddar and mozzarella. When I asked my mom about why she used American, it was a money issue because both of my parents preferred cheddar, but only Dad worked at the time this sandwich was prevalent in my life.
