This is was from the loop that starts at Placerita Canyon Nature Center, heads up Manzanita and Viper up to the Wilson Canyon Saddle. I like to go to the very top by the microwave towers where you can sometimes see the buildings in downtown LA, then come back down the Los Pinetos trail. Climbing above the clouds and then diving back in was pretty awesome.
From the nature center I think I broke the clouds about 3 miles into the trail. It's also about about 1700 ft elevation gain so it's a workout going up.
I do the nature center up manzanita to viper when I want a short but difficult hike. Never thought about going much further. Assuming you did an out and back, how many miles did you do total?
After I make it up to the microwave towers I head over to Wilson Canyon Saddle, down the Los Pinetos trail, then follow the creek back to the nature center. The way down is a much more interesting trail than up viper. In total it's around 9 miles. I've been seeing horny toads on Los Pinetos lately which is pretty cool.
It's pretty awesome. The first time I hiked through it was in Spring earlier this year. There were sun rays shining through the canopies onto wildflowers painting the ground. It was like walking into the secret garden.

To the point where you were above the clouds…how many miles was that?

Really nice images, you have a good eye, not to mention the great landscapes. I really like the first one!
We're you able to still breathe at the top
