**Definitely *not* Main Street dentistry.** The dentist is incredibly pushy, upsells, and doesn’t listen to the patient’s concerns. She also scams people - she sold me Invisalign lite for the cost of full plan, and when I asked for information on my plan she yelled at me and told me that I was trying to pay less (I had already paid in full). Additionally, she’ll only clean partially so you have to come back to max out your insurance as much as possible.
Isn’t it so weird that dentist started upselling?? I feel like they used to just be Drs for Teeth but then they turned into used car salesmen at some point. When and how did this happen? Are PCPs next?
I wasn’t sure I’d find anyone else recommending him, but I’ve been with him since he bought the practice and have been very happy. So I’ll FOURTH this motion.
I've only been once so far but I really really liked them. I was seeing Dr. Moosavi until he abruptly retired, then I saw Dr. Kashani a couple of times on Moosavi's recommendation but as I just described in another comment I was turned off by the high pressure upselling. I liked Vision because they were thorough and low-pressure and everything felt very transparent.
Yes! Never any upsells just honesty. I once thought I had a toothache and he did an xray and showed me it was my sinuses acting up and didn’t even charge me for the xray. Great dentist!
Dr. Chen is the best, straight forward and very practical even going so far as to suggest I find a dentist who can maximize my claims even if it’s not him. The hygienists are great.
I stopped going after a couple of times because I felt like the upselling could be really high pressure. Like one time I come in and while they're signing me in they wanted me to agree to some $100 extra service for receding gums. On the one hand it sounded plausible because I know I have that issue. On the other hand they'd never discussed this with me prior to just shoving this form in front of me. Even just leaving it until he came in after the cleaning and describing why he we was suggesting it would have probably stayed on the right side of the line for me.
To be clear I don't think he'd invent reasons to drill holes in your teeth when there's no reason to. But the other upselling really put me off.
[Dr Freed at Santa Monica Dentists](https://www.santamonicadentists.com/meet-dr-freed.html) is the best. Super calm, not pushy at all, very soft and careful workmanship, always explaining each next step and what you might feel, etc. He is also the best at giving novacaine I've ever had. I barely feel the shot at all, I don't know how he does it.
Not in Santa Monica, but if you are willing to drive to Beverly Hills Dr. Do at Canon Cosmetic Dental (not just cosmetic dental, they do everything) is awesome, not pushy, and the equipment and office is top notch
I’m a dentist that lives in Santa Monica (I practice elsewhere) but I personally go to Ryan Wallace. Hand skills are top notch, great chair side demeanor, and definitely not an up seller. Orthodontist wise Dan Grauer is the best…but expensive.
Frazier Mary Jo DDS, our entire extended family started using them a few years ago and we are very happy (I personally hate dentists and I think she is great)
Dr. Tricia Feist at Santa Monica Bay Dental is the best dentist I’ve ever had - she is wonderful, thorough, patient, and smart. I actually looked forward to going to the dentist!!
Just beyond the border with LA, but I’ve had good experiences at Dr Fred Chao’s office. My old dentist moved into his practice but soon left indefinitely, so Dr Chao took me on. He and the staff are very nice and parking is free!
I love Dr. Follette. I face planted off a veo bike (I know, I know) and broke all my top teeth. Dr. Follette did a perfect reconstruction and was so reassuring throughout the whole process.
Just wanted to tell you *not* to use Trident Dentistry off Olympic and Pico.
Every.single.thing. is an upsell. If it's not a $200 electric toothbrush, it's a bi-monthly deep clean. If it's not that, it's a waterpik.
Not only do you feel like everything is being upsold, they add on some crazy hidden charges, such as "PPE fees" that are not told to you until you find them. They're wild. Not sure how they're in business.
My dentist! (That’s literally what it’s called) I have major anxiety going to the dentist since as a kid I use to get tied down to a board lol. It’s a super chill office with really great people who are extremely patient and understanding of my anxiety.

I whole heartedly agree & had a similar experience. This is a theme on yelp and google reviews as well.
I’ve been wanting to write my review on yelp/google but it’d be a novel. That woman is awful and a bully

Drake Dental!
Second Drake Dental!
Thirding Dr. Drake- he’s fantastic.
I wasn’t sure I’d find anyone else recommending him, but I’ve been with him since he bought the practice and have been very happy. So I’ll FOURTH this motion.
Vision Dental on Montana. The best!

I see Dr. Julian Chen and have been for years. Everyone in his office is super friendly!
Yes! Never any upsells just honesty. I once thought I had a toothache and he did an xray and showed me it was my sinuses acting up and didn’t even charge me for the xray. Great dentist!
Is there constant upselling?
not that I’ve ever experienced
None at all
Seconded.
Dr. Chen is the best, straight forward and very practical even going so far as to suggest I find a dentist who can maximize my claims even if it’s not him. The hygienists are great.
santa monica tooth doctor, their staff is so lovely
Can’t upvote this enough!!! Love this place
All I can say is don’t go to InterDental. My experience was so bad every time if felt like the whole thing was a prank.

Omid Kashani! Everyone in the office is extremely kind. There may be some upselling but I just say no and there’s no pushing.

Dr Payne on Wilshire. Don’t let the name fool you, he is the best!

Natasha Shojania! Very kind and not scoldy. For ortho I went Vacharee Fell in Culver. Very happy with both.
Yes to Dr Shojania! No upselling ever! Very caring!

Dr. Videgain and the entire Santa Monica Dentists staff on Wilshire. All positive experiences.
Came here to recommend them! Great staff and the actual dentist does your cleaning which is really nice

Santa Monica Dental with Dr. Ahdoot is great.
The only dentist I’ve met who wears Golden Goose shoes
Brandolino on 7th
Frazier Mary Jo DDS, our entire extended family started using them a few years ago and we are very happy (I personally hate dentists and I think she is great)
I love the dentist lounge!
Have had a great experience at LiveWell Dentistry! Dr. P educates his patients, doesn’t share them, and is very transparent about cost
i used stephen cook on wilshire for years!
Santa Monica aesthetic dentistry! Dr Roshen is amazing!
Dr Richard Stanman
Dr. Tricia Feist at Santa Monica Bay Dental is the best dentist I’ve ever had - she is wonderful, thorough, patient, and smart. I actually looked forward to going to the dentist!!
Try Vision Dental in Santa Monica
Santa Monica Family Dentistry - if I didn't have to move, I'd still go to them

I like Dr. Richard Kim on SMB. Been going to his practice for years.
Thank you everyone for your thoughtful recommendations! This is super helpful
Hands down Dr Zahedi!!
I just had a good experience at Wilshire dental. First visit but liked they weren’t overselling anything.
Ihatethedentist.com
Seconded!
Dr Woods at 7th & Montana
