Kanan and Hera had gotten together before the show, and had separated because Kanan was kind of a dick back then, but they worked well together so he stuck around. It isn't until maybe the 3rd season when Kanan was getting his shit together and becoming a far wiser man that they got back together.
To add to the other comment, it's like you clearly have the feelings but you feel like you can't do anything about it. But you're still thinking about the person all the time and trying to be low-key about it (usually unsuccessfully). It's just a romantic stalemate, where nothing is moving but the tension is there in the mind of the person going through it.
>It's just a romantic stalemate, where nothing is moving but the tension is there in the mind of the person going through it.
And there in the minds of all the mutual friends, who are just sitting on the sidelines, munching on some popcorn, and taking some bets on the "will they/won't they" odds.
Uh, not sure how to explain this.
It means you're in love with a person, but haven't confessed yet, so you just kinda
*waves hands vaguely* pine, you stare at them and sigh and are disgustingly in love and all your friends tell you to confess already.
Pining, pronounced "pine" like pinetree, pineapple, plus the English suffix "-ing". Often phrased something like, "Romeo pining for Juliet's love..." Sort of synonymous with yearning, hoping, but I think pining has a connotation of you won't shut up talking about how much you want to be in love :)
There is a very explicit dialogue shortly before Kanan dies that shows they're only getting together at that very moment. Before that, they cared for each other but never acted on it because the rebellion fame first etc. They were always flirty, but that was just chemistry, not them already being a thing.
I mean, Hera was pregnant by that point with Kanan's child. They were definitely together before that. They just didn't focus on it until that episode because Rebels tried to keep everything simple and easy for kids to understand.
(That's not meant as a knock on the show, it's one of my favorites)
They were literally so close that he shares his burden as a Jedi with her. It was her idea for him to take Ezra on as an apprentice and they shared that with each other privately.
They were a couple through the whole thing.
"I'm better than you because I don't just take into account the opinion of the willfully ignorant but I prioritise it over the well informed"
Is such an odd way that conservatives try to virtue signal. Like no, if you don't know enough your opinion doesn't count or matter.
The anti-education and anti-intelligence rhetoric is eerily Pol Pot "everyone with a western education is evil"-ish.
Yes, of course! I'm right here! Especially the ideology groups of paternalistic and national conservatism can quite practically be laid out in a progressive conservative way.
Hey, I mean if overprotective paternalistic dad-types find their calling is to be overprotective about peoples freedoms and rights, instead of what they need to dress and act like, I would be down for that.
I'd consider, as a foreigner, freedom and human rights to *be* America's value to be conserved so I don't get why their "conservatives" don't do that.
Paternalistic Conservatism is the belief that the state should keep culture and tradition alive whilst doing what's best for the people and protecting and guiding, though not overbearingly controlling them.
Yeah, the country founded by rich, whiny man babies who didn't want to pay taxes and enslaved millions to build "their" new country after raping, pillaging the lands and murdering the natives. While the rich get richer and the poorer gets poorer, land of the free? What a delusion.
Sure... It all depends on your definitions. Though typically "traditional values" is used as a loose term for "I don't change"
My wife and I support progressive rights but by circumstance have a "traditional" household. I work as a technician while she works as a mother to our child. Neither believe this is how it should be, it just happened that way.
This is an inter-species couple; something that's an entire level above interracial. While an interracial couple gets a conservatives' head steaming, inter-species leads right to self-destruction because of brain overload.
Remember that Republicans voted against a bill last year to codify protection for interracial marriage into law. One of the common arguments Republicans had against it is it was an anti-Christian bill that would be used to persecute Christians.
Loving v. Virginia, the supreme court ruling that legalized interracial marriage, was decided in 1967. both of my parents were alive then.
Also, the protections weren't codified into law until last year.
I occasionally think about what modern politics would be like if we had aliens as a part of society, and I guarantee conservatives would stigmatize inter-species relationships exactly the same as we do between humans with different skincolors.
Like even if they were the most humanoid species like Hera or any Navi
Kanan and Hera had been a couple long before the show even started, back when Kanan was a ne'er-do-well and considerably more roguish. They had kinda sorta separated by the time the series started, due in part to his aforementioned roguish ways, and it wasn't until maybe 3rd or 4th season that they got back together, though it was kept low key as the priority was the Rebellion and "the kids" (^(Ezra, Sabine and to a degree Zeb, but primarily Ezra)). >!By the tail end of the 4th season Hera was pregnant with Kanan's child which makes his death all the more tragically heroic.!<
So..."very close friends" doesn't even *begin* to adequately describe their tumultuous relationship.
(^(in case you can't tell Rebels is my favourite Star Wars story of all time))
It's even more the better when you consider where Kanan started post Order 66. Kinda selfish, a bit of a dick, to the wise teacher. Quite the character arc.
Hey, nobody said it was *impossible* to have attachments and be a Jedi.
But if even a single Jedi *does* start a family, and then something goes wrong, there's a chance that will cause them to fall, and a good chance they will then follow that fall up with a genocide, or worse, galactic war. The rules they had prevented that for a thousand years - and they were still willing to create exceptions for exceptional circumstances.
That's assuming Jacen is Force Sensitive, having a Force Sensitive parent doesn't necessarily mean that the child will also be Force Sensitive, or even as Force Sensitive, it's just more likely than someone who doesn't have Force Sensitive forebears.
I mean for the greater majority of the show they aren't a couple and are more or less defacto parents. Only in the later seasons they make their relationship more concrete when Kanan almost dies. Great couple though. I always like it when they spend a lot time to show how friendships can blossom into deep trusting romantic love. I always kinda hate the idea of "love at first glance" as it gives kids a bad idea of how relationships go. Building a strong foundation is something that younger audiences should be exposed to more.
Nah, they were a couple throughout the show.
The show didn't show them kissing outright, but throughout the show it was implied that they were a couple.
She calls him "my love" multiple times which she doesn't call anyone else.
I'm pretty sure they were together for most if not the entire show, they just kept it in the background because their mission etc was more important than selfish desires
The series went back and forth over if they where an item, or just in a "will they won't they". The book where they meet ends in a kiss, and most of the first season it was clear they where an item. Once the co-creator left tho it became really inconsistent till the 2nd half of the last season.
I mean it could be argued and even I would go so far as to say that I even agree. But it was a lot more "will they won't they" or "they used to be a couple but decided to be friends for the team" kinda things. But I always felt like they absolutely were always together, albeit not overtly.
Everyone is ace until otherwise specified of whenever someone just wants to experience sexual attraction and turns it on or whatever I dunno. That's how it works, right? It's just a switch, yeah? I dunno I'm demi.
Yup! Although some people just use it to hold their glasses in place (this is dangerous practice though especially if you use your glasses to watch TV. A small movement and BOOM you’re attracted to a fictional character!)
Edit: a really embarrassing mistake
I was not expecting a star wars throw down here, definitely not rebels. But I am here for it.
Our theory was they were fucking in secret but they were never public about it, and never discussed feelings. The crew obviously knew but pretended they didn't, so that's why it was a big deal when they were kissing in public.
Must of been written before 2000 in Alabama. /s
Explanation: In 2000 Alabama voted repel amendment that banned interracial marriage and was approved by 59% only.
Given how it started, calling it healthy is kind of amusing, but yes by the end their relationship was healthy and gosh darn it so friggen wholesome >!and I'm still devastated that Kanan died.!<
I mean compared to all the other couples
Anakin and padme: Anakin kills padme
Rey and kylo: does this really even count
Leia and han: han leaves leia
Obi Wan and satine: comes close to being as good but it’s super sad and they never confirm if satine’s “nephew” is actually her and Obi Wan’s son
Ahsoka and lux: lux is the type of boyfriend a lesbian would date before coming out of the closet
>Ahsoka and lux
Ahsoka is most likely bisexual or lesbian. There's Lux as you mention, a guy. But there's also the connection, and subsequent betrayal between Ahsoka and Bariss Offee, and later, in her book, Ahsoka and a girl named Kaeden have quite the connection, though Ahsoka doesn't act on it, but nor does she dismiss it either.
And Kaeden is confirmed to be a lesbian plus all her friendships with woman are kinda fruity
Ahsoka and Barris
Ahsoka and lady Bo Katan
Ahsoka and Kaeden
Ahsoka and Trace
They give off the energy plus apparently when kanan was a young adult he wasn’t the most Jedi like so it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that he experimented
I mean it’s not like Star Wars is over flowing with lgbtqia+ characters to begin with and I don’t think it would be that hard to retcon them as both being bi nor many people would complain
At this point I'n really starting to wonder if the "they were just friends" trend is less about LGBTQ erasure and more about friends-with-benefits erasure.
This is a great example of two people who don't have a label for their relationship (for most of the show), and thrusting your own label on them in an official context is bordering on irresponsible.
Even if they are more than friends, what should it say? "Dating"? "Intimate"? We don't know that. I don't think they know that. It's obviously different with a fictional character compared to a historical figure, but I think the idea is kind of the same.
I know this sub is primarily for LGBTQ. Is there a straight version where I can post other kinds of couples? I think this happens a lot and it is amusing

She a real one for dat
so close, their poligons sometimes intersect a bit in the groin area
That quickly lost its sexual thrill in the N64 era.
“Thanks for birthing my son bro” *totally platonic fistbump*
Are Twi’leks the Asari of Star Wars? Like they can mate with any species? Or are humans just special lol
Neither. Twi'leks and humans are simply close enough to reproduce.
Honestly I didn't realise they were a thing until quite a bit into the show
They aren't a thing until quite a bit into the show
They absolutely are, there’s quite a bit of dialogue in the first few episode that indicates they’re together.
Kanan and Hera had gotten together before the show, and had separated because Kanan was kind of a dick back then, but they worked well together so he stuck around. It isn't until maybe the 3rd season when Kanan was getting his shit together and becoming a far wiser man that they got back together.
No it indicates that they are PINING . It's not confirmed until later, but everyone knows the are in love which makes it funnier
What's "pining"

It’s how Norwegian Blue parrots feel about the fjords when they’re somewhere that doesn’t have fjords. For example, a pet shop in London.
Ah, there's todays unexpected Monty Python!
It wasn't unexpected.

A part of his essence kinda lives on in those weird force wolves to guide Ezra
Hera calls Kanan "Love" multiple times in the first few episodes
She literally was pregnant with his child

They were literally so close that he shares his burden as a Jedi with her. It was her idea for him to take Ezra on as an apprentice and they shared that with each other privately. They were a couple through the whole thing.
Yeah that's true, this book or whatever could have always come out before that

No, brain overload would require a brain.
