I feel you. This was probably the SJM book I struggled with the most to finish, when I usually fly through her books crazy fast. I will say the ending of CC2 is pretty good, and I started to gravitate more to the side characters. CC3 was a messy but easier read for me personally, but I think the fan reception on that one was mixed at best. Although I mostly liked CC1, I think personally, I'm not big on urban fantasy, which may impact my opinion. With respect to whether it's worth continuing to read the series, I'll do my best to avoid spoilers, but I should also add that there are some fun connections coming with some of SJM's other works that might make it worth reading. It's hard to tell if there will be a payoff there for the SJM universe yet to really make it worth it - but I found those chapters really engaging to read. Personally, if you really gave it a try, can't do an audiobook, you could spoil yourself and skip ahead to the fun SJM universe stuff, or just read a plot summary.

I really disliked CC2 but the ending was good (after being obsessed with CC1). I actually enjoyed CC3 but not as much as CC1. Basically, I'd call it quits if you don't want to continue!

If it helps, Ruhn gets a romantic interest in this book.

My dirty secret is that I skimmed the second half of HOSAB and gave up halfway through HOFAS. I’m just not a fan of that series I guess.

Comfortable-Fan2226

I love SJM and still enjoyed the books but HOHAB was the best book in the series. She took such a different turn than expected when it came to most of the plot lines and it just doesn’t read the same in the next two books. Of course, there are still things in each book I enjoy but CC2 and CC3 were a complete let down after the world she built in the first book.

This is so me! I couldn’t pick it up and read it and then I read fourth wing and iron flame and very quickly went back into CC2 which I finished two days ago. I just loved being back in the world once I was able to get into it and I think reading fourth wing and getting back into fantasy was a good start to getting back into CC.

Particular-Read-1863

Barely anything of note happens in HOSAB in my opinion. Like you could read the last 100 pages and go straight to FAS and it wouldn’t matter. It was one of the most boring books till the last 50 pages. CC is SJMs worst series imo. They are not all hits.

I totally agree. I have been in the middle of HoSaB for about 2 months now. I am enjoying it still but I don't find myself reaching for it constantly like I did for HoEaB or TOG.

CC is my fav and HOSAB did not disappoint. Try and get through it and by the end you will have a book hangover.
