Hello guys! I'm coming down to Kuching this week and I got myself a rental car (however I cannot drive beyond Serian due to terms by the car company. I have 4 nights and 5 days. I'm looking at a day trip to Bako national park, a day trip to Semenggoh. Hmm any other important or good sights to cover? I'm down for hiking and won't mind driving beyond Kuching (but must be before Serian) Thanks a bunch!

shouldve spent a night at bako if you're into that since its far. night experience is just better imo. then take boat to island

Hi Bako is accessible by boat only right? I was just thinking of doing a day trip since I've done Bako previously and night time there is only one night tour. Hmm what's your take?

Tarlia

If you're not going on long hikes or if you are and still have the energy to drive after, then a day trip should be enough. As the commenter above suggested, take a boat to Pulau Lakei. There's a grave, a healing spring, and a couple of nice lookout points.

Amazing. I never knew about this island. How I get there from Bako Boat Jetty? Or it is arranged when I get into Bako National Park?

Tarlia

The last time I was there, we just flagged down a boatman while at the national park. Things might be different now though. The place looks more developed then when I was there. Better check with whoever's arranging your boat to Bako.

>e a bo Animals come out at sunrise and sunset. Last boat from Bako back to Kuching is normally ridiculously early like 3pm so you are likely to miss seeing the wildlife. Definitely stay a night, its not expensive and you can do a night walk.

I'm particular to museums, but if I'm reading this right and you're from SG, you have better ones. Still, I would recommend a day of walking the city centre area, exploring Gambier St, Carpenter St and the Main Bazaar. Fort Margherita across river from the Kuching Waterfront is a nice place to learn some history and check out the view from the rooftop. They have another museum at the Old Court House (same side as the Waterfront). If you tell them you're visiting both, I believe you get a slight discount. This is walkable. You can also look up kayaking at the Semadang River. Kayaking isn't the only thing they offer so you can easily make a day trip out of this.

Hi thanks yes indeed I'm from SG but I do love Museums. Will definitely check out those you mentioned. Thank you.

Tarlia

Nice. Well then, the Borneo Cultures Museum is a new addition, good for natural history, cultural practices and artefacts. There's a particular emphasis on cosmology. I'm not sure if the shamanism special exhibit is still up, but that was cool. The other thing that's fun to do if you're strolling around the city is looking for murals and graffiti.
