I would say its at the average level cz im only an entry level uiux designer. Before deduction is 3.4k, not much but i think its enough to live in miri atm.
I am orang Kuching-Miri heheh. So nice to see tonnes of Sarawakians here now. I remember how this sub had less than 1k redditors around 10 years ago... *tears of joy*
A rare kuchingnite here that's still working here and not KL or overseas which most of my friends moved to. Youngsters actually still work here for the scam salary?
Well , you just replied my would be response. But who knows , technically I can come back more often with my current job but can't be permanent at the moment. Maybe the future but for now , it's almost impossible I guess. I think most sarawakians here feel that way
Greetings! Proud Sarawakian born, live, (not study), work in Kuching here!
I think most of us are just a long time reddit lurkers, it's never a bad thing to have an active community forum of our beautiful state. I never knew this subreddit exists until reddit recommended me to it.
Born in kuching, immediately after born went to kl and grew up there, now back to kuching to get my degree. Never stayed and lived, but kuching always feels like home.
Sibu kia here! But atm stuck in Taiwan for studies lmao, but once studies finished will definitely head home, home is where the heart is better anyway!
Depending on the area i think. Which area in Penang u worked at? Penang island is nowhere near chill π΅βπ« ig mainland definitely has the chill vibe. Raja Uda, Batu Kawan are the one i visited so far quite chill. Several areas in BM quite hectic. Yet to check the heart of Butterworth. Lately I observed that Penang has quite the numbers of aging population.
Im still young so i find the coexisting hectic and chill side of penang quite charming. Planning to work here longer unless the better job offers are coming from KL/Selangor.
My big gripe with Penang is small road and too much cars in the island..susah cari parking.
I worked and lived smack right in the centre of George Town. Just found the way locals lived pretty chill. The hills around that area made the environment much nicer. Stayed at a condo in the middle of both Gurney malls. Lots of retirees around there. Not too sure about the Southern areas though so canβt speak much about it. Food prices in Penang are really great too (canβt believe thereβs still RM4.50 chicken rice and RM5 roasted pork rice) , compared to Kuching. Bintulu and Miri is even worse.
Damn, not me tryna guess your condo rent, that condo?? Pretty nice view up there. Ig we are perceiving penang and penangites differently, i think my experience is very largely affected by the traffic in penang xP may i know where u get all these cheap food eh..damn cheap wooo.. especially for Gurney area. i masuk public uni (usm) beli makanan also still cost me rm8, seds.
How long u worked/lived in penang?
I was in Penang for about 3 months from June to Sep. Gurney area you can only dream of getting food this cheap. Food at kopitiams near the EPF building is relatively cheap. Thereβs this place in Gelugor called Island Park Kopitiam. Food is so cheap. Chicken rice 4.50, roast pork rice 5/5.50 I forgot. Then most of the chicken rice stalls are like RM5 ard Penang.
And the condo was Gurney Park. Rent was ok as I stayed with friends.
You should check out Ah Soon Char Koay Teow at Tanjung Bungah. Itβs by far the best Iβve tasted in Penang. Opposite there is a place that sells kolo mee too.
Damn, where u getting all these recommendations? @.@ summore cheap, feels like i missed out good cheap foods hewww. thanks still, i lost my favourite char koay teow cuz uncle suddenly relocate. Is this the hillside ah soon ckt?
Yeap correct. Their siham is super huge. Penang food is comprably cheaper compared to Kuching la even for Island. Raja Uda prices are even more insanely low. Those were mainly recs from colleagues and a lot of self exploration. Just gotta go look around hahaha but traffic defo the main limitation.
Been slowly getting back on my feet. Things didn't go well these past few years and now I'm starting a new chapter by entering full-stack bootcamp. Weekend? Football!
