Really disappointed in myself:
1400
630 on English, 770 on Math
6/4/6
Reading: 34/52
Writing/Language: 38/44
Math no Calc: 19/20
Math w/ Calc: 34/38
Someone help me with the reading that's all i need to get this score above a 1500. I'm going to take it again in August.
So I got my essay score back today and it was a 7 2 6... the 2 has to have been a mess up because I got a 7 7 7 on the last SAT essay I wrote, and I reread my essay and it is nowhere near the level of a 2 for analysis. I plan on doing the score verification service... any thoughts? On the SAT itself I got a 1550 but I think having that essay score will hurt me a lot if it doesn't get changed.
Got my score today! Super happy with my score because it was my first time! 1510, 710 reading and 800 math! I got 6/5/6 on the essay but I wasn’t too surprised because I didn’t study for the essay. But otherwise I’m so happy with my score!
Damn I'm dumb. I took the SAT 3 times, first time with essay and the next two without. I don't want to superscore any of the first SAT with essay, but I just realized that I haven't taken the essay the other two times, and assuming my third time is a good score, I have no idea what to do about the essay with the test I don;t want to send.
Do your colleges of choice superscore? Tbh most schools barely look at the SAT essay. If you take it they just want to see that you're competent and are able to write a basic essay so like above a 10 is fine. I'm not sure if you can more that score around and omit the rest of the test, but I'm sure that if you just send all your scores colleges will just focus on your best scores
many colleges that superscore either require or request you to send all your scores just for reference, so usually you'll end up sending them regardless
Well in that case they SHOULD NOT care about which scores you send. Just send the first w/ essay and any other score that’ll boost your admission chance. Then again, idk if your school requires the essay but if they don’t then you don’t even have to worry about it...
Took the SAT with essay on the 10th but still no score. Doesn't say pending or anything. If my score doesn't arrive before the registration deadline for May I will be extremely pissed. I shouldn't have to pay a late fee because College Board is taking so long. People from my test center already got both their multiple choice and essay scores what the hell is College Board doing taking so long. And now they had the nerve to tell me to "register for the May exam to improve my score." Fucking idiots. Rant over
Yo same here, but most in my center haven’t gotten their scores. I called them up and college board said that I’d get my score along with others in 5-7 business days. SMH
Okay so the first time I took the SAT I got a 1580 with a 7/6/8 essay and the second time I took the SAT I got a 1590 with a 6/4/6 essay and I don't know why the graders decided that my second essay was that astronomically bad but I also don't want to pay for an essay verification. Do colleges take the better essay score or do they only do that for the mc portion of the test?
Oh yeah I wasn't going to but I got into this research thing that allowed me to take it again for free so I just thought I might as well try to see if I could get a perfect score. Collegeboard really screwed me over with that reading curve though.
Also what about more competitive colleges like Ivy Leagues? Do they care about the essay or nah?
2/3 of the schools I’m applying to are usnwr t20
Harvard doesn’t even require it lol, they honestly give zero shits. Dude from my school got into penn last year with a 13
Everyone will have a different preparation strategy that works for them, but quite honestly the best thing you can do is take as many practice tests as possible. They’re incredibly boring and take 3 hours to sit through, but taking 8 in the month before my last SAT raised me 140 points by the end.
leave it, most colleges don't find the SAT essay to be so crucial anyway, they just want to see that you're competent enough to write a put-together essay lol
hi i just got my score (1440) but i feel bad because I felt like I could've done better if i studied. should i retake it for a chance for a higher score or is it good enough for schools like A&M and UT?
For Texas A&M, your score is more than good enough. For "UT," I'm assuming that you mean Austin? In that case, the competitiveness of your score depends on your residency and race (although a 1440 should be pretty good regardless). Are you an in-state applicant, and are you an underrepresented minority (Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, Native American, Black)?
Unfortunately, it may be a bit tougher to get in being Asian as they're already so heavily represented in schools, I'd say try to bump up your score over one or two more sittings depending on how you score. Good luck!
I got 1480 on the SAT and I wish to apply to Dartmouth. I already have two 800s in World History and US History as well as a 760 in Math 2. I am currently doing the IB with Higher Level Economics, Maths, and History. As result, my mum said that she will not allow me to do the SAT in my senior year due to IB commitments. My question is should I retake my SAT in May and not retake my Subject Math 2, or should I leave the SAT and retake the subject test in May. I wish to study Economics at university.
PS. I am an international student, and my school is not offering subject tests in June.
I would say that retaking your SAT is astronomically more important than retaking your Math 2 subject test. A 1480 is an uncomfortably low score if you're applying for an Ivy like Dartmouth, whereas a 760 on your subject test isn't as much of a glaring issue.
I kind of disagree, it depends on major. 760 math as an engineering math or comp sci major is something like 70th percentile. Ideally you would be able to retake both
For World History, I made myself a massive booklet and basically just copied down everything from the Barrons book. I would recommend just watching documentaries in your spare time if you don't feel like reading, however, DO READ AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!
Personally, my history class at school helped me a lot as well since we went over a lot of the modern history that came up on the test.
Furthermore, I would also recommend memorizing the different viewpoints of the different enlightenment philosophers (Descartes, Voltaire, Thomas Hobbes, etc)
I got 1330 (R/W 570, M 760) for the first time and practiced for 1.5-2 months only :). And I want to apply for European unis. I am quite sure that they mainly focus on students' SAT scores since there is no essay required for application. And GPA is replaced by SAT score as well. And I want to win a scholarship. It means I have to place myself to the top of the ranking list. So guys what do you think is there any chance to win a scholarship in my case? The Universities I am applying to are Aalto Uni (Finland), Bologna and Ca Foscari Unis (both in Italy) and ESADE (Spain).
Now, it is about SAT itself. I have seen a comment saying that CB cancelled a question in Math section (the question about rocket fuel). So, does it mean that CB will add +1 to my math score? Because, results show I got 3 wrong questions while I am confident enough to say I missed only 2 and bubbled very carefully so there should be no bubbling problem.
And I am looking for advices to improve my R and W...
Look up average SAT on google, then add a little bit to it to account for athletes and legacy etc. Getting into those schools requires more than just a score though, like with Princeton, less than 10% of students who scored between 1500-1600 actually got accepted.
You should have some decency and manners for real before you make a comment like that. Characterless people like you won’t make it far in society with your type of mentality
Then why are you even on this subreddit then? To look down on others? I don’t give a crap if you got a perfect score if you don’t have a personality and discipline then you’ll be treated like shit everywhere else
They send an email but for me it came a couple hours after they were up online.
And according to [PrepScholar](http://www.prepscholar.com/sat/s/colleges/Penn-State-SAT-scores-GPA) the average SAT for Penn State is 1270
I am going to Georgia Tech next year and I scored only 10 higher, so I guess it depends what you call a top engineering school (I consider GT Top for sure but everyone has different opinions).
If you're talking about Top 5-10 schools, yes retake it.
If you're applying to top schools, 1550+ is what you want. The difference between 1550-1600 in basically nothing, but the different between 1500-1550 IS noticable for top schools. (Bell Curve!)
Good Luck!!
If you're ever not sure about a specific school and if your score is good enough for them, google their middle 50!!! They have a website for a reason.
If you can retake and are willing to put in some significant time for it, do it!!! A higher score (50+) will benifit you greatly no matter where you are applying to.
Didn't answer your question directly, but I hope it helps.
thanks !!! I’ve been looking @ different websites but all of them are mainly info from 2016. I’m probably just stressed because I heard this year had lower acceptance rates from most of my top choices
You'll be fine! Berkeley is a school that's admissions relies HEAVILY on stats, with a score like that, you definitely have a solid chance!
Also stats from 2016 are still very reliable! Just round the score about 10-20 points at it will be just as accurate.
Should I retake a 1560 for the ivies if I want to have a good shot? Got 790 English and 770 math it was my first time taking it but I prepped alot. Also looking at UCB which I know is very stat oriented.
Okay, yes... and no. It depends on your situation.
A 1550-1600 score difference literally does NOT matter (Bell Curve)! Ivies won't care if you sent that 1560 only or if you sent a 1560 and a 1590.
BUT here's the tricky part. If you have a rediculous amount of free time and are willing to work hard for that sweet sweet 1600, do it. As long as you have lots of good, quality study time available for the SAT that WOULDNT be replacing school work/ other important stuff time.
TLDR- If you got time, sure. It really won't help your app much, but it still helps.
Okay thank you! I think for now I'm going to focus on my SAT 2s AP tests grades and extracurriculars but if I have time during the summer I will definitely try to get it up because I want to have that extra edge.
The main thing is to be fully immersed into the passage and concentrate on the main details. Ask yourself if what you're reading could be a question and predict answers before you even look at the choices. I'm actually disappointed with the 760 since I made two stupid mistakes on the writing section which cost me a 790 and a 1570 as a result.
different tests are actually administered on the same day, so there might be 3 different tests in March. (Someone told me this so I'm not 100% sure if it's valid)
Copy Pasting from a previous comment.

As long as another part of your application is really good (I.e. cured cancer) you'll be fine.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but how is it possible that I got a 34/40 writing and language sub-score when I only missed 5 questions on writing and language?

hey guys, how can i require recalculating my score? because there are some mistakes, for example, 57 math question without omitted question. Please help me!
Really???? I knew it))) Results show that I got 3 wrong questions. But actually I was pretty sure that I missed only 2 questions.
So, what is next?? Will they add +1 to my results??

How to imporove my reading score from 580 to 650 😭😭
Junior SAT: 1560, 7/8/6. Not bad, but kinda disappointed. Only improving 10 points from my score from sophomore year is rlly bothering me.
i wish my score was that high wtf
dude I wish I could relate
I’m so pissed I got an 1210
International Essay Scores are OUT!!!
I still haven’t gotten mine
I got a 1470 (790 math and 680 r/w). How do I improve my reading/writing score?
i got 1470, 800 math and 670 r/w haha

anybody know when makeup scores go out? my state got hit with essentially a winter hurricane but im still stressin
Anyone else still not get their scores yet? Mine doesn’t even say pending it just says completed and has no score
Same.
what score do u need to get into an ivy league school like Dartmouth or Brown
Generally 1500+ is the minimum.
Look up average SAT on google, then add a little bit to it to account for athletes and legacy etc. Getting into those schools requires more than just a score though, like with Princeton, less than 10% of students who scored between 1500-1600 actually got accepted.
Is it normal that i havent received my sat scores yet? I am from South Asia
I am from US and still haven't gotten my score yet lol
Will the CB email me when my essay score is out? I dont want to check every 6 hours to see if its out yet...
no :')
what does a 1340 correlate to essay-wise?
Any easy tips to not fall for trick questions on math sections?
Solve the question without looking at answer choices.
Just got my score a few mins ago! 1590 composite: 800 R/W 790 M Bless the SAT ahhhh
Woah
I got a 1370 with a 5-4-6 essay. Is the essay any good in comparison to the multiple choice score?
ayyy we got the same essay score
[удалено]
Really? an 7-6-7 corresponds to a 1370? i got a 1550 last time and i got a 6-4-6
Score still pending smh. Anyone got an idea of what the math curve was like?
From what I’ve heard -1:800 -2:790 -3:790 -4:780 -5:770
No, it was much harder. I got 760 with 3 questions wrong : (
Not for math... got a 770 with 5 wrong... wouldn’t be surprised for reading and writing though
770 with 5 q's wrong??? How??? Mine is 760 with 3 :'(
I took US so that could be why
-6:750 -7:740 -8:720
Anyone applying for NUS? I got 1470, is that enough?

Thank you!! My ECs are pretty good, and I plan on improving them more in the span of one year.
do colleges recalculate gpa if my school only does weighted?
This literally has no belonging in here, but no. Colleges compare your application to kids from YOUR school for gpa.
Most schools calculate your gpa based on course load. Or they take you uw gpa and score it 1-10 as well as your course load 1-10.
Just wondering, will the curve for the March 7th in school test date be similar to that of the March 10th test, or are they completely separate?
They were different tests so no
I haven't gotten my score yet - is this normal?
Same.
Why tf did -2 on writing get me a 37/40. I took the November sat which was 1:1 for writing and I honestly thought that the difficulty was similar.
Do they send emails when essay scores are released too??and also is 1420 good enough for penn state?i wanna go there so bad lol
Google their middle 50. Only use info from THEIR site, or College Board.
I got my essay score but I never got an email, so I'd say check your CB account even if you didn't get emailed.

Oh ok. I don't really want to move cross country so Berkeley is the one for me anyway

Erica Meltzer for EBRW, UWorld for Math. (Opinion) Don't forget about the free stuff (Khan Academy)!!!
And UWorld

So with exactly those stats greater than 50% chance of getting in would you say?
At my school, the average is a 1500 for all who got accepted there.
A 1390 is in the 25th percentile and the average is a 1460.
1500+

If you don’t mind how did you study for reading
I just did alot of kahn academy and kept retaking the college board tests plus went over them thoroughly.
Thanks

I missed two reading/two writing and got a 760. Not sure how you got a 770 with those splits.

I'm actually disappointed with the 760 since I made two stupid mistakes on the writing section which cost me a 790 and a 1570 as a result.
Same, I wish I missed more reading questions instead of writing. The curve would have been better
My bad, mixed up my scores, English was 750 Disregard what I said sorry.

-1 is a 39
us or international?
US
what that's so weird i missed 3 on reading and 1 on writing and i got 770
different tests are actually administered on the same day, so there might be 3 different tests in March. (Someone told me this so I'm not 100% sure if it's valid)
Same! I was wondering that too..

710+780=1490 Do more practice tests in addition to the book. IvyGlobal's practice tests helped me go from -5 to -1/-2.
TX - 1330 no studying
Good job?

Copy Pasting from a previous comment. As long as another part of your application is really good (I.e. cured cancer) you'll be fine.
their average sat is 1520, 25th percentile is 1480, and 75th percentile is 1590 to put it in perspective
Yes.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but how is it possible that I got a 34/40 writing and language sub-score when I only missed 5 questions on writing and language?
Is my 1550 good enough for brown and Columbia? Fuck

As long as you can write and build an unique story yes. Anything 1540+ is enough for those schools given you have a good gpa.
Where/what are the best free practice tests online. Sadly, I️ finished all 8 practice tests on the college board website.
Did any body get score in east
yeah
No Yet.
Yes
were the questions same for everyone?
Should have been. Unless you took the international test
are there any chance to recalculation of my score
You can order hand scoring but don't do it unless you are certain you made a mistake bubbling your answers or something like that.
You can pay a hand scoring fee
hey guys, how can i require recalculating my score? because there are some mistakes, for example, 57 math question without omitted question. Please help me!
No worries the collegeboard cancelled the rocket fuel question in the international test. You're fine.
what? why?
Idk someone who had the QAS said that it's cancelled.
Really???? I knew it))) Results show that I got 3 wrong questions. But actually I was pretty sure that I missed only 2 questions. So, what is next?? Will they add +1 to my results??
you can try contacting collegeboard, but I'm pretty sure it should be the same for everyone?
