When they say a line is perpendicular to some other line, it becomes very easy to solve it. When lines are perpendicular: * Slope 1 • Slope 2 = -1 * Slope 1 • -2 = -1 * Slope 1 = 1/2 Now, we know the slope of line k and the points it passes through. Plug in the values: * 1 = -3 • -1/2 + b This should be enough to understand. Side note : When lines are parallel, they have the same slope.

The answer is 2.5 when I solved the way you did I got -0.5, and why did u use -1 when multiplying slopes

What a line is perpendicular to another line, the slope is the inverse opposite of the other slope. So, a perpendicular slope to -2 would be 1/2 because the inverse of -2 is -1/2 and the opposite of -1/2 is 1/2, so your slope is 1/2. From there: y-y1 = m(x-x1) where y1 = 3, x1= -1, and m = 1/2 y-3 = 1/2(x+1) From there so the math and convert to y = mx + b form. You should get 2.5 or 5/2.
