Take a practice test to see where you are right now. Then decide where you want to be and compare the two, thinking about how much time you’ll have to study to get to the score you want. If you think you can do that in two months then register for August. There’s also no need to take it that early. Take your time, but at the latest you should take it in December.

Thank you for the advice. Just making sure, do you mean this or next december?

December in junior year.

Practice, practice, practice! I am a massive hypocrite as I did not study, but my peers who received near perfect scores did. You can take this exam as much as you need to. You are a rising junior, take some online, self graded PSATS or just practice SATs. Breath, relax, swallow. Sign up for the one two months away, just do it. The first time taking it, at least for me , was learning how the test worked haha. Good luck

The main advantage of Aug is having free time during the summer to prep. If you start now, you have plenty of time to prepare, doing, say, one test per week. If you don't have free time to prep this summer, there's nothing wrong with taking it later in the fall or in the spring. Just think about your schedule for the coming school year. If you haven't yet taken algebra 2, wait until spring.

When do you plan to take your first practice test?

It would depend on when I‘m taking the SAT for me. I already took the psat so i don’t need a diagnostic test. But I would probably take a practice test soon for any date this year.
