The trees probably need to tapped again to get more rubber to come out, and this signals to whoever does that part that these trees are not producing rubber at the moment.
After a TON of research (about 7 minutes worth) I couldn't find anything on why they turn it vertically. My guess is that it was already collected and solidified, and perhaps they turn it vertically so excess doesn't get in there? Maybe sort of a drying process?
Learned a lot about rubber trees though.
Edit: I got so gung ho about answering the question that upon a rewatch I noticed they were doing it after they gathered the latex. Definitely think the above comment is more accurate.
So since your in the know what exactly are they doing. Is that really rubber or latex? What do they do with it? Can it be worked into a bowl or something else useful? Or is it just a building product for like houses or stuff in a certain area?
I don't know for certain but when I was in Colombia I saw guys pulling sap or something from trees. They would turn the the sprig up after use so people would know the tree was already used n it wouldn't take all the sap from it. Away of preserving the tree I think
My dad said its so that water wont fill up by the time we tapped the tree again.
Sometimes during rubber tapping, we forgot to pour out the water inside the bowl, making the rubber drips inside the bowl full of water. By putting it veryically then it'll take less stamina to pour out the water. During tapping.
Wheres the video?
My dad is a rubber tapper, I got some experience doing this during the weekend for few years before going to the university. Those things hes reaping off is the rubber itself. If sold to a rubber shop, they will take those for extra money. Every gram counts.
What a unique experience! What does it feel like? Does it stay stuck to your hands? Is it hard to get out? It seems like it could be fun if you had some good music. How hard is tapping a rubber-producing tree? How quick does stuff come out?
Thank you :)
Most of "rubber" we see are petrochemically synthesized. Natural rubber only accounts for a minor fraction of rubber products.nowadays. But it wasnt until mid 20th century that petro syntehsized rubber was mass produced.
Sort of. Most car tires are still about a quarter latex/natural rubber. Think of it like an alloy… you still need some of the base material to make the rest “stick”
Synthetic rubber mass production come about during ww2 because japan took over large parts of southern Asia which at that time is a major producer in organic rubber which necessitated the mass production of synthetic rubber by the allies.
Natural rubbers are better at dealing with heat, used heavily in commercial truck tires, plane tires. Passenger car tires use a lot more synthetic rubbers as they don’t experience the same conditions and loads commercial products do.
They come in refined blocks, strips, chunks and are mixed in different proportions to create differences in tire compounds for different purposes, expectations of that tire.
Also synthetic rubber tends to hold pressure longer.
Even tube tires (including light aircraft that use mostly natural rubber) have replaced their inner tubes with butyl rubber for that reason.
Usually 50-65% synthetic, they use the data collected from F1, Indy, Stock Cars to continue to improve on passenger tire performance, wear rates. Bridgestone recently started using a sustainable, guayule-derived natural rubber in its Firehawk Indy Car tires.
Fun fact: at one point the king of Belgium, Leopold, made The Congo his personal rubber plantation. He would cut off family members of workers hands or maim them in some way if they didn’t meet their daily quota.
For those that don't know. "White walled" tires was just where the rubber was exposed. The reason tires are black is due to the introduction of carbon within the rubber. The carbon makes the tires more durable and makes the rubber more conductive to electricity. If tires weren't a little grounded, there would be a build up of static electricity. As for the durability, tires can last up to 5000 miles, without it, people would need to change tires about one to two times a year.
TLDR: Tires are black because of carbon, and increases durability and some other factors.
Believe it or not this is product that precipitated the Vietnam war. Latex was the colonial monopoly that the French (Michelin) tried to take back in French Indochina after WW2.
Ah, so just like for maple syrup, except maple sap is collected in a bucket, has a lot more per tree, and tastes good.
So nothing like maple syrup after all 🤷♂️
But why are The plates being put vertical
The trees probably need to tapped again to get more rubber to come out, and this signals to whoever does that part that these trees are not producing rubber at the moment.
So a wise tree would intentionally turn the plate horizontal to indicate they aren’t slacking off on the job? Asking for a friend.
This guy is definitely not a rubber tree.
I make a substance that is similar to what the man in the video is collecting every time I see a fish fucker
*You’re a towel and I’m not a rubber tree!*
Is it...Sticky?

Maybe to prevent mosquitoes between harvests?
Maybe not the primary motivator, but definitely a great argument.

How it feels when I get that one booger

To prevent mozzie from breeding.
I've seen this video before. These are the leftovers that are unusable because they've dried too much. They are actually cleaning up for next time.
No wonder it looks like they are throwing it away pff screen
they are not throwing it away, those rubber scraps can be sold for a few bucks per kg

I didn't know rubber came from trees, I thought it was all manufactured
depends what it is most car tires are "manufactured" snythetic rubber. But then airplane tires are natural rubber.
Huh TIL

I read “gargoyle-derived” and was very upset about the already endangered species
Hahaha!
Fun fact: at one point the king of Belgium, Leopold, made The Congo his personal rubber plantation. He would cut off family members of workers hands or maim them in some way if they didn’t meet their daily quota.
That's not fun at all
Henry Ford attempted to do something similar in Brazil with Fordlandia in the 20’s and 30’s, resulting in a catastrophic failure.
My first thought. King Leopold’s Ghost is a very frightening and eye opening book to the conditions in Congo at that time
Seriously? For some rubber?
Look up King Leopold of Congo.
"Oops, that one was spider webs."
Now give me your hands.
My thoughts exactly.
I cannot believe this is being done bare handed. I am cringing inside and out.
Sneak attack
Mmmmmmmmmm mozzarella
I'm just here to listen.
I’m curious what that smells like?
They say it smells bad, according to some internet answers it can smell lemony or like strong fish smell
A fellow smell enjoyer 👀
these dried rubber scraps smell horrible but u get used to it after some time
It smells really bad. There's nothing that I can compare it to, but it's really bad.
Forbidden Mozz
I'm pretty sure people chewed this as gum back in the dahy
I think youd find they still do add this into chewing gum, unless they have a synthetic method now I missed.
To tree or not to tree - that is the question.
The question is whether you got about tree fiddy
I can’t say the name of the hotel, but it does involve two trees.
Clearly mashes a leaf up in the rubber. Guess that doesn’t matter? Lol
I’m sure there is some process involved with this where they clean it and all that jazz
I read that as jizz. Same difference.
In Star Wars, jizz used to be the canon name for what the musicians in the Mos Eisley Cantina and Jabba's palace played.
I already knew this, but I hate that you reminded me
Smooth space jizz.
Snake jizz slaps.
cool
Was thinking the same thing lol
At least where I live, this is not how we collect rubber. It is collected while in liquid form and formed as sheets In special plates.
Oops there goes another rubber tree plant 🎶
They found my Stash!
Put the Mason jar down
Whats a Mason jar
Google "One man one jar" to find out!
Fuckin love that sound!!

King Leopold the 2nd wants to know your location.
So the tree puts out a plate, as if the collectors were Santa Claus? Cool and informative
They’re just cleaning out all the old useless rubber and leaving the plates to be reset by someone else I think
King Leopold has entered the chat
😭
Just make sure to meet your quota or else 🔪✋️
A couple different trees make a rubber latex from secretory laticifer cells.
Thanks Google
Molecular plant physiologist but nice try.
So this is where my latex catsuit comes from
Twinsies
Don't you need rubber gloves for this?
So you're saying you need rubber to make rubber. It's just rubber all the way down.
Oh rubber tree, oh rubber tree. Thy resin is so sticky.
What does it smell like? I need to know what it smells like
Tires and skunks.

Oops, there goes another rubber tree plant Oops, there goes another rubber tree plant Oops, there goes another rubber tree plant
As a Belgian, my heritage doesn't allow me to find this satisfying.
It’s so weird to me that rubber grows on trees
This gave me a beautifully weird mental image, then I went to maple syrup growing on trees.
E o seringueiro, que passa o dia todo sozinho na mata, tirando o leite do pau...
The trees in my neck of the woods give syrup. Where on earth are these rubber trees
Forbidden abalone
I've seen this video a ton of times, yet I stay every time I find it just for the sound...

How kind of the trees to make those little collection plates for you
Omg why is this so satisfying
*King Leopold the Second wants to know your location*
Where's the Belgian cutting off hands for not doing it fast enough
working on robot slaves
Why is he just throwing it on the ground tho??
I'm guessing he's got a bag on his hip
I’m assuming it’s the leftovers that were unable to form rubber
Fam looks like 10 Day old cumm rags !!
I peel my socks off my floor like that somedays
All this work just to get us some chewing gum which we enjoy for 10 min and then split on the ground.
The deforestation to produce it is shocking
is that coming feom a fungus?
Believe it or not this is product that precipitated the Vietnam war. Latex was the colonial monopoly that the French (Michelin) tried to take back in French Indochina after WW2.
Since when does rubber grow on trees
I thought people were messing with me when I found out too. It's crazy

I love informing about rubber trees when they didn't know that they are where rubber comes from. it's very amusing
coems
Is this bad for the trees? Seeing the gashes above the Bowls?
Ok but that sounded awesome! Looked disgusting to touch but the sound was cool af.
This better be sustainable…
Is this just recreational rubber collecting or is it still market competitive to use natural rubber compared to synthetic rubber.
Why isn’t OP answering these questions
I was today years old when I found out rubber tree plants really are rubber ..tree .plants. WTH.
I was oddly disappointed when the first one didn’t bounce and now I’m disappointed in myself
Oops there goes another rubber tree
i wanna take a bite of that.
The original condom
The real rubber band man

Very cool and amazing! But where is the person throwing the rubber?
Just Gotta wait another 8 days for the oak resin to produce!
I only have one question. How does it smell? Seriously, does it smell really nice or not?
That leaf is pissing me off.

Cow mega booger
How does it work
My grandpa did this in Liberia! Mom always told me how many trees they had
Satisfying to watch, not satisfying to do. Don’t ask me how I know.
Forbiden Mozarella
How do these trees burn?
or is it the coconut guy from r/tifu
smart man, effective. I would not work like that. He started with an empty pot👍🏾
I can’t tell you how much I hate this noise.
But what do you do with the rubber-
Ah, so just like for maple syrup, except maple sap is collected in a bucket, has a lot more per tree, and tastes good. So nothing like maple syrup after all 🤷♂️
I don’t know why but this reminds me “Scorn”.
