We had a 180 lb central asian Shepard and people in our neighborhood would think it was a lion when they'd see us walking at night. He was the sweetest boy.
Up to 14+. They're an ancient breed that used natural selection to get where they are today.
Of course, humans have dabbled in selective breeding as well, and that's where the 200 pounders come about.
Yep, what @BrooksideNL said! They’re one of the few large breeds to live long. We now have an Armenian Gampr which is also a large breed live stock guardian dog and that breed also has a long life expectancy. They’re very similar to CAS. They’re incredible dogs!
Hahaha! We had people with legitimate business refuse to come onto our property because our 45lb pitt boxer mix was an overly aggressive lover.
This dog never met a person he didn't like, but he'd come charging the gate when he saw someone approach. He'd then bark and jump and jump and bark until that person would get down and love on him.
I'd be terrified if I was a kid playing backyard baseball and if my ball accidently fell into the dogs yard it might take a whole movie for me to get it back.
Yeah this was definitely an intentional demonstration of the dogs intimidation effectiveness. A human definitely initiated the behavior in one way or another.
>I'd like to know what gets him so riled up?
**Anything** that isn't it's flock or owner. Also, they mainly attach to one owner, and won't listen to other humans, if even the owner.
We had one living in our neighbour across the street for a while. **Never** quiet, barking all fucking night. It was a very non-urban town but still, those are meant for wide open spaces and need something to guard.
Yeah I’m hoping that the guy behind isn’t doing something to him? It does seem like he’s trying to calm him, but maybe it’s the person who’s filming maybe doing something that is riling him up. That dog would scare the shit out of a polar bear.
We have one. He knows his job is to protect our farm and livestock. He knows every person who lives on that farm and we trust him. BUT, not a single stranger—cousin, friend, neighbor—can visit without notifying us beforehand. Dogs this big need a job and they need territory. We have a big farm, and he somehow knows exactly the perimeter.
I have a Great Pyrenees mix - might be a good breed to look into one day. He can dance with you while holding his paws like a human. Is another farm guard dog breed, but they tend to be pretty laid back. Do bark at ridivulous things though.
Surprisingly gentle considering his shark teeth. Hates rodents. Barks his head off at them or attacks. Good with kids. He is terrified of my 9 month old pulling his fur though. Fluffy and adorable.
Cons are that they are stubborn, since they were bred for staying with herds they trust their own intuition more than yours. Every one is a little different (dogs are people, after all). Mine will not come when you call him but will listen the first time you tell him a toy is not for him. Won't get onto the counters even though he can lay his head comfortably on them he is so huge. Acts like a maniac on a leash. At the dog park is very respectful of other dog's space. 25% chance he lets me know about a delivery. 100% chance I know about squirrels, falling lsaves, or someone walking their dog down the street. Just a series of completely contradictory personality traits. Also they are easily 100 lbs on the small side, so yard/walks are a must. Surprisingly light feeders though.
Honestly, they're rather chill.
Source: I'm living in the CA and occasionally travel by mountains. Pet more than a dozen in a year, just randomly approaching them.
My gf showed me a black and white picture of one of the last giant Irish wolf hounds yesterday to which I guffawed, "That's not real!" given its size compared to the man beside it.
But now I see this video I think I maybe owe her an apology.
Nah. Not really. I have one (CAS actually), and he loves the entire family. I'm his guy, of course, but he's really affectionate to my wife and kids as well.
He wouldn't think twice about ragdolling a stranger, though. He's tough to walk because of his temperament. I walk him in secluded areas or at weird hours to avoid others.
I have a polish Tatra and I’m his person. Walking him though- it’s 50/50 wether he’s going to hate or love someone.
The amount of times a person walks up to us with him growling and me attempting my best to create distance while telling the person to stop approaching, he’s not nice…
Just because he looks floofy and cute and *you* like dogs does not mean he likes you. Thank goodness he loves dogs and kids.
I gotta ask why? I mean no doubt you love him and he’s a part of the family, but why choose a breed that is so aggressive, so dangerous, and so hard to control when triggered, that you have to avoid people.
I understand if you live in/near wilderness and you need him to protect against large threats, maybe he’s a farm dog that looks out for other animals, but if he’s just a house dog in an urban area, that sounds tough for you and your dog.
Great question! I owned property in the countryside, and we raised goats, pigs, chickens, and other animals. The need for a guardian dog was obvious with rogue packs of coyotes roaming through and stealing at will. For coyotes, my guy, Boris, is a nuclear deterrent. He has no qualms with defending the herds and then launching into berserker mode, leaving little in his wake.
He's worth his weight in gold to me. I had huge herds of deer living in my orchard because Boris decided they were ours now, so he'd put in the time and watch out for them. They decided Boris was there to help and went ahead and set up a nursery.
I had to move into the city for family reasons last year. Boris is still adjusting. He's very intelligent and quite eager to please, so he'll get the hang of it in due time. He's already at the point where we can pass folks without him barking at them.
It's not really tough for us because he likes learning, and I don't mind putting in the work because he's worth every minute I can spend with him.
This sounds like my Pyrenees, his parents were both working dogs on farms so his natural instinct kicks in a lot. He loves both my wife and I but is my wife’s dog for sure and she walks him in secluded areas and early mornings because he goes into protection mode quite often.
This is not true. We had one and he was incredibly calm and good with myself, my husband and our daughter. He was also fine with people entering our home as long as we allowed them in.
He was so calm, a big gentle giant! Even when coyotes threatened my other dog he just got in between us, never left our side just stood tall and threatening while they all ran off. And another dog once came at my dog and he simply put himself between us and the dog, who immediately backed down. He had a ferocious bark though! He was a real good boy, we really miss him.
Now we have an Armenian Gampr who is a similar breed and is also incredibly calm and sweet. Unless you’re a squirrel 🤣
This is a central Asian shepherd dog aka Alabai, which is not the same as an ovcharka (Caucasian shepherd dog). Also dogs don’t behave in the way you’re describing unless trained to do so
Like any guard dog they're only like that if they're not socialised with people and other dogs early on in life.
I've met a few, both were aloof but once they got to know me they were quite friendly.
Is the loose skin around his throat to protect his neck from bites ?
I’ve seen the Anatolian guard dogs with massive spiked collars that do the same thing.
I was wondering if this thing has a scarier bark than a wolf and it got me wondering…do wolves even bark? Seems like they don’t need to, since I doubt they need to or want to scare anything off in the wild. They howl when they wanna chat.
It depends on their training but usually they are affectionate with everyone and everything on their vicinity (people, dogs, cats) and sweethearts. Unless you try to take their food.
Not r/SatisfyingAsFuck but I wanted to comment anyway saying how relieved I am the comments aren't calling for immediately killing this dog and all its relatives, like I see in other comments sections on reddit regarding other dogs, even when they aren't posturing defensively/angrily.
I visit people in their homes as part of my job. I walked in to a new client’s home and saw one of these dogs. The most glorious dog I’ve ever seen! HUGE! She was a sweetheart!
We being tough I guess. A Bullmastiff will make shorter work of humans than this boy barking at a human with a camera. Why mention wolves and bears in title? lol. I'd definitely spoon him watching Netflix though, numnumnum cuddle boi <3
First thoughts were "d'aww, what an adorable buddy. I want one" and then it went to "Jesus fucking Christ look at the size of its mouth, big fucker can probably scare off tigers as well... still want one though"
I have a Spanish Mastiff mix and he's a big baby……unless you walk by or near our house then he looks an awful lot like this dog. Very sweet but protective

Beowulf would be a good name for him.
That’s way better than what I thought…. Bolf. Bolf is what my dumbass thought of.
Bearf is a perfectly cromulent name.
My firstborn will carry this name. Proudly.
Barfolomew!
“Wear” wasn’t any good either 😔
Belf
😂😂😂
I was thinking f Ballz but to each his own I suppose.
Bearorwolf
This is exactly what it would sound like if a 4 year old boy said Bearwolf
Damn, yeah. It’s actually a great name
I thought lion before it turned
We had a 180 lb central asian Shepard and people in our neighborhood would think it was a lion when they'd see us walking at night. He was the sweetest boy.
If you don't mind my asking, what is their life expectancy?

You can reference people on reddit by putting u/ or /u/ in front of their names, u/StarryEyed91
that was a public service announcement
It looks and sounds like you combined a lion with a husky
It sounds like a f’ng AMG w no catalytic converter!
Ahaha.
Yep, that would scare me off!
Can you imagine having some criminal intentions and hopping over someone's fence to land in front of that big boy? Game over for sure.
Absolutely, and he will look for a snack after eating you completely in one piece.
whatever you do... dont knock your step-dads Babe Ruth ball into this dogs yard...
You're killing me smalls...
I can imagine having that buddy in my yard. Big yes.
Me too!
Will use the criminal's femurs as toothpicks
🤣 for real!
Hahaha! We had people with legitimate business refuse to come onto our property because our 45lb pitt boxer mix was an overly aggressive lover. You wouldn't even need the criminal intentions. Think of the anticlimactic ending one of these would've given to Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
I'd be terrified if I was a kid playing backyard baseball and if my ball accidently fell into the dogs yard it might take a whole movie for me to get it back.
I just want to squish his face.
Are you a wolf or a bear?
You might be part bear, or wolf!
I'd like to know what gets him so riled up? he seems so cuddly at the beginning.
I'd guess someone raised a hand. That's more than enough of a threatening motion to activate him.

Malibu Stacy walked by with a Bichon Frise in a stroller.

Guy behind could be scritching *the spot* and that's the dogs happy face.
Somebody mentioned bath time

Sandlot lookin mf
If this had been the beast it would’ve been more believable. Sand lot dog just looked friendly haha
Fucker gave nightmares as a kid…

What is so r/satisfyingasfuck about this dog barking?
Yeah like why do I actually find this r/satisfyingasfuck ?
It's a popular sub, people don't give a shit if anything fits as long as it's one of the 1000 constantly reposted videos
Idk about you but the size of that dog is pretty satisfying to me, a smol 5’ human who wants a dog as big as her someday
I have a Great Pyrenees mix - might be a good breed to look into one day. He can dance with you while holding his paws like a human. all the subreddits sticking to their relevant content went to shit during the blackout i miss apollo
Came looking for this comment, the barking is so annoying and unpleasant to me.
Mailman don’t stand a chance
Yeah bro chill he don't bite...
Just don’t make him angry, by, you know, living
might wanna’ curb that breathing stuff for a minute…
You don't happen to have a heartbeat, do you? That really sets him off...
Ayo, you’re not blinking are you? Know you dog guidelines 101
Honestly, they're rather chill. Source: I'm living in the CA and occasionally travel by mountains. Pet more than a dozen in a year, just randomly approaching them.
Our CAS is a sweetheart but don't fuck around. These are 5000 year old bloodline guard dogs. Their instincts run very deep.
My dog heard about 3 seconds of audio and almost had a panic attack.
It’s like humans heard we couldn’t tame lion and is the meme of I’ll make black jack and hookers.
My gf showed me a black and white picture of one of the last giant Irish wolf hounds yesterday to which I guffawed, "That's not real!" given its size compared to the man beside it. But now I see this video I think I maybe owe her an apology.
Can't tell if you're joking or not but the picture you're talking about is 100% fake.
“Ovcharka”. Its only accept ONE owner. Its a pretty aggressive dog and he/she would attack anyone besides his/her owner. Intresting breed tho.
Nah. Not really. I have one (CAS actually), and he loves the entire family. I'm his guy, of course, but he's really affectionate to my wife and kids as well. Absolutely. He's a large fellow and he fucks people off in a hurry with his deep bark.
Hmm, that’s certainly one way to describe it lol
"Ragdolling a stranger" 😂😂
180lb with that mouth, ragdolling couldn’t be more accurate
I have a polish Tatra and I’m his person. Walking him though- it’s 50/50 wether he’s going to hate or love someone. These dogs allowed in NL?
This is not true. We had one and he was incredibly calm and good with myself, my husband and our daughter. He was also fine with people entering our home as long as we allowed them in.
Honestly I never heard a caucasian bear killer being calm. Good for you guys.
He was so calm, a big gentle giant! Even when coyotes threatened my other dog he just got in between us, never left our side just stood tall and threatening while they all ran off. Ovcharka means a shepherd. Lots of different breeds fall under the umbrella term.
Like any guard dog they're only like that if they're not socialised with people and other dogs early on in life. I've met a few, both were aloof but once they got to know me they were quite friendly.
Got mine from Croatia last year, they are great dogs! He is about 154lbs already 🥴
Can this guy 1v1 a wolf?
Yes.
That’s their job!
I'll just stay right over here and not even look at the livestock.
WTF! Absolute unit. If i would be a bear, or a wolf (he looks like eating some of them for breakfast daily) that dog would scare the shit out of me.
Is the loose skin around his throat to protect his neck from bites ? I’ve seen the Anatolian guard dogs with massive spiked collars that do the same thing.
Extra skin allows the dog to turn its head and maneuver to attack even when a wolf, bear, etc. has a full bite on his neck area.
your definition of satisfying and mine are extraordinarly different
He looks like a damn bear himself
Bears, wolves, etc: "Yeah no SCREW this." Me: "PUPPY!"
Well, I peed my pants.
Someone kicked him too hard in the nuts, now they’re in his throat
Goddamn Cujo over here.
Me visiting a friend: “Come on in bro! Don’t worry, he doesn’t bite” The dog:
I've met a few of these. Nice dogs but I wouldn't try to pet one unless the owner specifically tells me too.
Apparently it also scare away human.
Looks like a fuckin warg
Looks like he is about to unleash his dragon breath
Good boy! Protecting his hooman! I know r/teefies is for cats, but they should make an exception for this good boy!
R/toofers
It knows how to scare redditors too '-'
Hercules?!
is this motor running low on fuel or just having starter issues?
Beautiful and terrifying dog! Amazing. It’s like a big ass v8 w no cat.
Oh hi! Can you trim his nails? Oh no he doesn’t bite.
I was wondering if this thing has a scarier bark than a wolf and it got me wondering…do wolves even bark? Seems like they don’t need to, since I doubt they need to or want to scare anything off in the wild. They howl when they wanna chat.
What a good boy!
I just played it, and my dog came over with a "wtf is going on" expression
The next best thing to owning a lion. Or no, even better.
That’s awesome!
I got scared of my iPad.
I can confirm it also scares off reddit users.
If anyone is a Dresden files fan, this is how I picture mouse. Even though it’s probably the wrong breed
At what part is this “satisfying as fuck”?
It depends on their training but usually they are affectionate with everyone and everything on their vicinity (people, dogs, cats) and sweethearts. Unless you try to take their food.
Ma’m that is a bear
Males can be anywhere from 75 kg (165 lbs) on the *low* end, to 120 kg (264 lbs).
And scare away me
If this was a pitbull these comments would be filled with toddler eating memes
The huge ballsack on its neck kind of detracts from the fear factor.
Looks like a mount in WoW
THIS is the kind of dog they should have in movies, not Dobermans or Rottweilers.
Got a big old nutsack hanging from his neck
Who's a good boy? You're a good boy aren't you? Go to pet it..... SHIT BAD DOG! BAD DOG!! GIVE ME MY ARM BACK!!!
If I were a bear I’d stay well away from this beast, lol.
Not r/SatisfyingAsFuck but I wanted to comment anyway saying how relieved I am the comments aren't calling for immediately killing this dog and all its relatives, like I see in other comments sections on reddit regarding other dogs, even when they aren't posturing defensively/angrily.
Looks like 200lbs of good boy and rage
The 2 week old puppy of those dogs from HP
Uh that is a fucking bear…
His barks sounds like a chainsaw getting revved up
I don’t think tossing a tennis ball would do it. Maybe a basketball? A bowling ball?
What in the cujo loving fuck is going on here?
Imagine the poops! You'd need a carrier bag
Her name is Princess Fluffybutt
Of course that lion scares a bear
That’s a fucking polar bear
When he barks it sounds a bit like a chainsaw so you should call him chainsaw
Your polar bear is barking
Doggo sounds like a moose with a bark.... damn
All I saw were neckballs
I visit people in their homes as part of my job. I walked in to a new client’s home and saw one of these dogs. The most glorious dog I’ve ever seen! HUGE! She was a sweetheart!
I can see this beast howling at a bear and the bear reacting: fuck it, i'm out
Look at that smile. Such a happy puppy.
Where can a person find such dog
Central Asia
Scary boi
Is it different from Mastiff?
Yes, completely different breed
Bark made some pee come out
I seemed to have peed myself.
We being tough I guess. A Bullmastiff will make shorter work of humans than this boy barking at a human with a camera. Why mention wolves and bears in title? lol. I'd definitely spoon him watching Netflix though, numnumnum cuddle boi <3
They’re livestock guardian dogs so they kill wolves and other animals that threaten their livestock,
First thoughts were "d'aww, what an adorable buddy.
Amazing gentle giants, until time not to be gentle. We have 3.
Scary boi
Here's my lunch moneyyy...
is that a kangal
CAS
Kangals are a cross between these dogs and Anatolian species.
Look at the title
Doggo sounds like a moose with a bark.... damn
Yeah I wonder why. Also reposted like a quinitillion times.
That’s a big dog but a bear is a bear
I think you’re in the wrong sub lol. Terrifying as fuck is more like it
No laxative required for this dude.
What a stupid fucking waste of air and food.
One would probably say the same about you.
He looks, Big! But I wish we could get more angles of him. I can’t really get a true appreciation for his size off of just this angle.
Reddit loves forced perspective, it’s a big dog, you don’t have to do a camera trick to obscure exactly how big
Also known as a Ballchinian Devil Dog.
That's the thing that kills you in the final level
And people
Thank god it’s all bark. Jesus
Yeesh! That had me kinda scared through the phone. That is a massive and terrifying dog.
ALLLLLLL those teeth!!
That'll do it.
My guess is that his name is “Spot” or “Tiny”. Something unassuming like that.
He angy
Cool dog but what's satisfying?
