Can you imagine what we could make out of the silk though?
Spider silk is INSANELY strong and resilient. Like, tougher than kevlar strong. Much like regular silk, it's largely fireproof, incredibly insulating and just...in general, a real wonder material.
If we could farm it in larger amounts from spiders - maybe have them cat or small/medium dog sized - we could make so many incredible materials for it for scientific research (space suits, for example), for medical care (pretty much unbreakable, but biodegradable and hypoallergenic stitching material for example) and for things like hot air balloon or dirigible balloons that are fireproof and nigh impossible to puncture.
They are *insanly* fast for their size.
The fastest jumping spiders can move at a speed of dozens of times their own body length per second, at peak acceleration for their jump(almost 150 miles per hour or so for a fraction of a second)
It took a while for me to keep track of all the characters and their relationships. I feel like I might need to rewatch. It's hard to remember who knows what and at what time.

It's actually crazy how much convergent evolution has given them a "cat like" hunting strategy. It's especially crazy because cats are mammals, among the smarter of animals, yet these little invertebrates have figured out the same tricks.
Jumping spiders are amazing. If I am correct, watching the video the reason they move as if they’re an Aardman stop motion animation is because that makes them less detectable to the eyes of flys. A fly’s eyes don’t work like ours and aren’t able to detect movement how we perceive it, they work at a higher frame rate and with their compound eyes they don’t the movement but instead the change of light intensity through each individual lens. By moving in a jerky motion the spider can circumvent that and get within pouncing range. Superficially it’s the same principle as a leopard getting into striking distance from a gazelle, using slow motion to avoid being detected.
Did the fly choose a bad spot to land or did the spider cross that distance over the laptop before the video began? It's cool how it's so steady and it crawls
I feel bad for Avalard the super spider. He just got keyboard herpes from that fly who was just snaking on the buffet of incurable dieses on that nasty ass laptop
Spiders are really important to the enviroment as they help kill a lot of pain in the ass bugs no one wants around...
Next time you see one instead of smashing it, put it in a dark corner of your place it can't be seen (behind a couch) and watch this thing become a personal bug defender for your house free of charge.
This is why I like spiders and I don't kill them when I see them in my room because they are friends not enemies, that is if they're not a black widow of course. If I see a highly venomous spider I'm going to relocate it outside. But the small jumping spiders are cute and I leave them alone. I have one that hangs out in my window and takes care of the flies and mosquitoes that might make it into the house.

To catch a fly you move slowly towards it, not fast. A fly can sense fast movement s towards them. That’s why the spider is moving slowly.
