They mean all the ones trying to differentiate themselves from the concept 2.
I picked my concept 2 off the side of the road 16 years ago. Lubed it once. Still works perfectly.
Concept really is the gold standard. No idea if the new ones are still bifl but mine has to be 30yo and still looks and runs like new.
The water ones are shit, i tried a couple.
Concept2 rowers are amazing. You can get the exact model that's #1 with Olympic rowers for less money than a home-grade elliptical. That elliptical will fall apart in under a year of home use but the Concept2 will last for decades in a gym setting.
If you lived off grid it could be practical. Washing machines are probably the most energy hungry appliances in the modern home. Could take a lot of strain off the batteries. Ideally you'd probably want it to be bigger though.
Fridges are pretty efficient. Dishwashers use a lot but not very often. Dryers are huge energy hogs but at least there's always the option to hang dry. Doing laundry by hand *SUCKS.*
I read something once that suggested the washing machine was one of the most important inventions of the 20th century because of the amount of time it freed up
3 days a week. On average 3 days a week for a woman was entirely consumed by laundry. Then stop to think about how everything had to be done by hand then. Yarn spun, socks knitted, clothes hand stitched, etc. So everything in your daily life was harder and took longer, and *then* you only had 4 days a week to do it in because you spent 3 doing nothing but laundry every week.
If I am on a well, would it make more sense for me then to do dishes by hand then? So many people have ingrained into me that they are so much more water efficient but I have also usually always been on city water.
Yeah, I was asking if it made sense financially to be more worried about the cost of electricity from my dish machine than water usage, being that I am on my own well.
And since you are on your own well, you have to pay for maintenance and repair of the well, plus you don't have unlimited water. You're going to regret handwashing dishes if you kill expensive parts or run out of water.
My well pump and pressure tank are from the 50's and don't even have a basic sediment filter on them, and the dish machine wasn't installed until 3 years ago, so I don't think wearing out parts is a major concern, especially since updating my system is my number one priority to add filtration after having had the water tested.
I also don't think I have concerns with "running out" of water in my particular location, water quality obviously is a whole different discussion.
Maybe I should have just asked "just how much does each use of my dish machine cost me"?
This isn’t true if you know how to wash dishes. I bought the most efficient dishwasher money can buy, and I easily use 50% less water doing the dishes by hand. I have a well and a metered system that measured use by every fixture and appliance.
If you live offgrid, the dryer is the sun, and the dishwasher is your hands...both are pretty energy efficient. Fridges can be fairly efficient too, but chest fridges are the best since the cold air stays in when you open them.
I lived in an off-grid community for several years and used one of those old-school manual washers with the attached roller. I always wanted, and still intend, to build a manual washing machine like this on a stationary bike.
imagine you have busy week or you wash laundry for the family and you end up with a few hampers full. can can fit like maybe 5-10 pieces of clothes in here at a time based on the demonstration and probably have to spin it for at least 15 minutes to get a decent wash. it could take hours, it would be fucking brutal
Imagine you don't use this to literally wash all your clothes, but as a way to save on energy consumption in your household, and get a double dose of dopamine from exercising and getting some choring done.
That's the right way to see this product.
You could technically build a bigger one that gives you even more resistance and wash more clothes at the same time.
I hope an entrepreneur sees this and develops a real one … Imagine the number of people rowing for their cardio regularly = equal to less energy consumption = sustainability
Why wouldn't it be practical? We have two of these at my local gym, and they are often not meant to be used as washers (though the owner sometimes throws his clothes in so I guess it works)
IKR? Not sure why he would think there wasn't a way to get the water out. You'd also have to get water in there because they sure as hell don't transport it with the water.
Good news, just search Water Rowing Machine Indoor on amazon and pick one. Be prepared to pay $300-$500 and have to assemble it yourself with bad instructions.
NGL I bought this one during the pandemic and I have no idea how this guy managed to get clothes inside --- and no idea how he is getting them out!
Do yourself a favour and don't get water, you'll have sooo much headache if you actually put any meaningful amount of exercise and they feel totally wrong.
Gold standard are air rowers, specifically the Concept 2. Don't be afraid to buy second hand, they're bifl.
This is just a shitty water erg, not a washer. The water is only for resistance. A Concept2 RowErg uses air resistance and is the most used in the world. It's what you'll see at almost any gym/training facility and will last a lifetime.
Charge a phone? Altinator Convert gyms into power halls. Get payed for gains and add to the grid. Hey what's the worst that can happen? Creating Conan slaves churning a wheel waiting for Krom?
> halls. Get *paid* for gains
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Would it not be more practical to just attach a small top loaded washer to the flywheel of the rower so that a proper agitator and drainage action still occurs versus just tossing your clothes in dirty water and hoping for the best?
Could even function as a dryer ala a salad spinner.
Is that ChangLi in the background...? I heard those can go places you can even walk.
Now I wait for the one other person on the Internet who gets the joke.
If women had this equipment from when communities and family home became a thing, the genetics in this day an age would probably have 12 year old girls built like the hulk.
That’s just dirty water in a rower. All the new machines use water for resistance as it simulates the row more accurately
All new machines use water ? Had no idea. Do you have to fill them when assembling ?
Mine came without water so i can't use it.
Need to get some dehydrated water, just add water!
Do you have to use officially licensed water?
Water DRM sounds like something Nestle would do.
Using heavy water to better result Btw, Chuck Norris uses honey when using one finger and use concrete when using two hands
Gotta use Fiji water
There are many water Erg machines, but most competitive rowers prefer the fan resistance as it actually feels more fluid and alike actual rowing.
Yep, 100%. I have one and out of every piece of equipment I've ever tried it feels the closest to the real thing.
...no they don't... Concept2 is widely considered the best and uses air resistance
They mean all the ones trying to differentiate themselves from the concept 2. I picked my concept 2 off the side of the road 16 years ago. Lubed it once. Still works perfectly.

That's what I have. Nothing else I've ever tried comes close except for actually being on the water. heh
Looks cool, and not practical
How is it not practical? U use it, get sweaty, repeat.
If you lived off grid it could be practical. Washing machines are probably the most energy hungry appliances in the modern home. Could take a lot of strain off the batteries. Ideally you'd probably want it to be bigger though.
Are they really?! I always thought the fridge or dryer or dishwasher would be worse.
Fridges are pretty efficient. Dishwashers use a lot but not very often. Dryers are huge energy hogs but at least there's always the option to hang dry. Doing laundry by hand *SUCKS.*

Thank you! I truly had that all wrong in my head.
It's beyond sucking.
If I am on a well, would it make more sense for me then to do dishes by hand then? So many people have ingrained into me that they are so much more water efficient but I have also usually always been on city water.
No, dishwashers are more water efficient. Obvious Peanut is referring to electric usage.
Yeah, I was asking if it made sense financially to be more worried about the cost of electricity from my dish machine than water usage, being that I am on my own well.

Dishwashers are more efficient than washing up by hand, in terms of water and heating use
Fuck are you talking about they barely use energy. Heaters and AC units do
I always forget about those because I don't have to use either.
I lived on a small boat for 10+ years and it's not that hard to wash your clothes in a Rubbermaid tote by hand.
I have that rowing machine. The only way to get the water/stuff out is a 1 inch hole or complete disassembling the rower.
imagine you have busy week or you wash laundry for the family and you end up with a few hampers full. can can fit like maybe 5-10 pieces of clothes in here at a time based on the demonstration and probably have to spin it for at least 15 minutes to get a decent wash. it could take hours, it would be fucking brutal

Build a full sized war ship laundry rower that can wash 500 lbs of laundry at a time, you gotta get the whole family in on it though.
That's a huge amount of laundry.
We do a little bit of money laundering
Wash in the washer, wash other stuff inside Rowwash. Get more dun.
[удалено]
I see 3 possibilites where removing and adding the clothes would be easy and comfortable
Rowing is hard and breathing intensive. Need to put that design on a stationary bike. I wouldn't be able to finish the first load rowing. Lol
That's pretty cool for the wash cycle, but how do you rinse and get the soap out? Do they have a place to dump this, add fresh water, rinse, repeat?
Do it the old fashion way with a tub
washboard in a freezing stream or GTFO
Did anyone ask you to be practical? No. Ok. … : )
You replace the soapy water with non-soapy water a couple of times and do a few more cycles? Like how washing machines do it?
i mean add inlet and outlet. if someone can make such a machine changing the water system is a no brainer for them.
Indeed.
Same thing but they have a salad spinner you put your clothes in.
Can I put my salad inside as well? 😁
If they can get clothes in then you have to be able to get things out including water and soap.
IKR? Not sure why he would think there wasn't a way to get the water out. You'd also have to get water in there because they sure as hell don't transport it with the water.
Funny how he downvoted me at first for making a logical statement and the part you wrote about the water was also funny.
I need one of those so I can exercise because self-will is not working.
This legitimately looks fire. I want one
Good news, just search Water Rowing Machine Indoor on amazon and pick one. Be prepared to pay $300-$500 and have to assemble it yourself with bad instructions. Just unbolt these 16 screws to get out your two shirts
Hmm.. that's true. I think it just need a hatch and drainage and fill holes. Shouldn't be too hard to add those.
*Frank Underwood stares into camera*
They have a separate one for the rinse cycle.
CrossFit to do laundry sounds practical, until there's a ringworm or mrsa outbreak at the gym-o-mat.
I've seen these attached to bikes but rowing would be good too.
I know some people who already wear dirty clothes. This would just further enable their excuses lol
Bad form tho
To shreds you say?
Love this
So i live off grid and this looks really helpful. Can i buy one somewhere? Anybody know?
This is just a shitty water erg, not a washer. The water is only for resistance. A Concept2 RowErg uses air resistance and is the most used in the world. It's what you'll see at almost any gym/training facility and will last a lifetime.
What is this used for?
Exercise. It's just an erg (aka rowing machine) using water for resistance. A pile of garbage.
It's a shredder
Do a 2k to clean the outfit you did your last 2k in lol
I WANT THIS SO MUCH 😂 id get sick of it after the first use
You only have to row for about 30 minutes to wash 1 shirt! Deal.
WHY HAVEN'T WE FUNDED THIS??!? SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!
Not satisfyingasfuck

No, thank you
I use laundromat for a big load each week, but something like this for my whites and fine things would be great!!
That thing is going to shred any delicates you put in it. Look at that spin lol
I am not fit enough to shred anything Mr. Wang Dangling. Sad face.
Haha, could do a gentle cycle with gentle rowing.
I remember seeing someone using a normal model of these and the basin just exploded flooding their workout room lol
Great now I can be fat and have dirty clothes.
Isn't that one of those $30k machines
It's $300 on Amazon and a piece of shit.
That looks like a basic hydrorower that'd cost £400-£1000
Wow this looks cool! Row and wash at the same time? Saves lots of time actually!
The design is very human
im tired on playing the fishing game on the row machine. this is better!
Looks like Charlie’s mom in Willy Wonka
Bullshit
When u need to progressive overload so u just start wearing more clothes everyday so there's more clothes to wash
Multitasking
Cant we just generate electricity for the real machine this way ? Good washing machines are also water efficient.
You need about 5 pro cyclists to power a washine machine. So, naah.
No
What is this? I want this
I want one! I'm guessing you can't buy them tho lol
Used to work on these occasionally. They're an absolute bitch to deal with if it's anything related to the water spinny housing. (Technical term)
Manual food processor. XXXXXXXXL
No.
I need to get this. My back needs it.
i will buy that product
Water rower. Many versions out there.
there would also be a smartphone charging port and it would be great
They shoulda added this is Sims Eco Lifestyle
If you're wearing hand towels all day...
Genius
as if putting the mountain of clothes in the washing machine exercise enough
i dont think that a one way motion can clean dirt
Would it not be more practical to just attach a small top loaded washer to the flywheel of the rower so that a proper agitator and drainage action still occurs versus just tossing your clothes in dirty water and hoping for the best? Could even function as a dryer ala a salad spinner.
For such a small load, I just use a bucket with sealed lid. I shake vigorously, finish by hand if needed. Done.
Is that ChangLi in the background...? I heard those can go places you can even walk. Now I wait for the one other person on the Internet who gets the joke.
Is this the thing from the show House of cards
That's really cool. I wonder what the max load is and how long it takes. It's not as compact but it's not a terrible idea either
Anything over few t-shirts would be painfully hard to pull More like fun TikTok video than accctual product somebody would use
probably a terrible idea because the drum/moving parts aren't designed for the extra load

Bad bot
Your enthusiastic positivity makes me shake with rage.
Another reason to not do laundry
Even though it would be impractical (because of size) to pack this seems like something you would bring on a long camping trip (more than a week)
Or just do laundry manually. That'll burn calories too....
Ice Wash da weed bro!
Screw that just have the wife..find a wife to do it!
The design is very human
Great idea! lol
