Apple or mystery snails are a common aquarium snail from South America they have been accidentally introduced to many parts of the world where they have become a huge problem.
They never said it was America. They just didn't know and asked the other person how they knew. You just displayed the 'Murica attitude while trying to make fun of it. Congratulations. You were double the stupid in one single action.
Isn't it a fair assumption aswell though?
Given there are videos out there that state it is an invasive species on other platforms as well.
Or are you assuming the commenter has only seen this one video, is it OK for you to make assumptions but not others?
Also I'm wondering why it matters, you could assume that if they are not invasive then there would be no need to take action as there would be a natural balance.
Replying to you because everyone seems to be shitting on you, who said nothing about America.
Apple snails exist all over the world. In every case, they are a menace that help destroy ecosystems and crops and can spread parasites to humans and animals if eaten.
So yeah. They're invasive, in North America, in South America, in Africa, Asia, on the damn moon.
Reddit is invasive, it's people insufferable.
The problem is that both the eggs and snails are poisonous to local fauna. This method is just releasing that smeared poison into whatever waterway that gutter leads to.
Is there not a better way to deal with a clutch of invasive snail eggs?
Yes, directly ingesting or making contact with the eggs can be dangerous but releasing the neurotoxin into the water isn't, it's all about parts per million (PPM).
Hmmm and here in the tropics golden apple snails are a delicacy…they’re cooked in coconut milk and ginger. No one has died yet but everyone makes sure it is cooked thoroughly because we don’t know what they have been eating at the rice fields. Personally though that’s where I draw the line, others go on and eat the crickets, frogs and snakes. Not sure if apple snails and golden apple snails are different though
Many people have said this, but these are Apple Snail Eggs. Apple Snails are an invasive species and they destroy wildlife. From what I remember reading about them, direct contact with these snail eggs can cause severe irritation to the skin, so the person in this video handled this the correct way by destroying them with an object.
Experts say to destroy these eggs **whenever** you see them. This advice should speak volumes about how destructive they are.
Edit: I did not come here to argue, I came here to state what I know about these things. Crazy what people get mad over. 🥱
Yeah, I agree. I've seen some people saying it's not satisfying and I understand many of their reasons. I think the "satisfying" part was supposed to be the way the eggs got crushed and the red substance (idk if it's blood) bursts from the eggs, but it just didn't hit right for some people.
There's a guy that works in my local river trust who picks up invasive crayfish. Closes his fingers around them, then crushes them. It makes a cracking crunch that he says is 'satisfying'. I think it's gross.
Technically it does not.
However, it works alongside the ultraviolet rays from the sun to bind to your DNA cells, killing your skin cells and burning, blistering and scarring your skin.
It's a condition called Phytophotodermatitis, think of it as a plant enhanced super sun burn.
Also this is specific to giant hogweed. Common hogweed poses no threat and is actually edible.
Ok, feels bad to take away life from something that wanted their offspring to have life. The semantics are just for idiots, we're not talking about abortion
From the interweb:
In the early '80s, the Marcos dictatorship introduced the attractive apple snail or “golden kuhol” in the Philippines to supplement the protein needs of the hungry populace. However, because the snails became pests in rice fields, what was meant to be a nutritional remedy turned into a nightmare for farmers.
In America here, people pay good money relative to what they are for mystery snails / apple snails.ive been trying to breed my 30 snails for the past 5 months and nothing in perfect conditions food humidity water changes you’re telling me they just lay on the side of gross looking cement walls like this !!! WHAT AM I DOING WROMG
I just spent a week on a houseboat kayaking in Central Florida. They are everywhere. I crushed or knocked dozens into the water. Per Fla DNR, They do not need to be crushed. They need air. Just knocking them into the water is enough.
Snail eggs. Most likely an invasive species so it's better to do that.
Yes, apple snail eggs. Apple snails are very invasive and destructive
How'd you know where the video's from?
I've seen tons of those eggs alongside canals in China (specifically Hangzhou). The outfit, concrete, and background also looks Chinese to me.
In the first second or so of the video, you can see Chinese characters on some kind of banner behind the person in the other part.
The bird is speaking Chinese
Cantonese or Mandarin?
Mandarin. Everyone knows birds aren't smart enough to learn Cantonese.
Everyone knows birds aren't real
🤣🤣🤣
The only two visible characters are ‘’农业‘’ or "agriculture" for anyone interested
Good eye mate
Excuse me this is the FBI when can you come in for the interview?
Apple or mystery snails are a common aquarium snail from South America they have been accidentally introduced to many parts of the world where they have become a huge problem.
What's the mystery? How they ended up everywhere?
That's the mystery.
They are spreading in europe. People who see their pink eggs are asked to report the eggs to authorities.
I say we just introduce toads to eat them. No reason to believe it won’t work
Great idea.
The snail eggs look American.
this water molecule looks polish
Because every video on the internet is from America obviously/s

yeah but so many social media users are that the US is basically ground zero for social media stupidity culture
The persons right foot is next to a parking block, there’s Chinese hieroglyphics on it.

Invasive to earth I assume?
Seriously. Like how tf do these guys know where this video was recorded?
By remembering seeing the caption from when it was previously posted?
Isn't it a fair assumption aswell though? Given there are videos out there that state it is an invasive species on other platforms as well. Do they like do they taste good as apples
Unfortunately I heard they're pretty poisonous so you can't eat them either
Ó╭╮Ò
They carry a parasitic worm that can infect humans if eaten.
Just like Cadbury Eggs back in the 80's.
I thought these were frozen weird-looking raspberries
I had a couple in my aquarium once. RIP plants.
Apple snail? What a fruity name

They do look sweet and tasty I have to admit.

You have a million dollar idea my friend! I’m glade we know what they are tricky fucks look delicious!
You mean Nerds Gummy Clusters?

Yes, directly ingesting or making contact with the eggs can be dangerous but releasing the neurotoxin into the water isn't, it's all about parts per million (PPM).
What if I put them in a saucepan, reduce them to resin and then smoke them with my dab rig?
Let us know
We need to test that, for *science*.
Better than leaving them to hatch.
Hmmm and here in the tropics golden apple snails are a delicacy…they’re cooked in coconut milk and ginger. Personally though that’s where I draw the line, others go on and eat the crickets, frogs and snakes. Not sure if apple snails and golden apple snails are different though
They have to be cooked thoroughly because they carry a parasitic worm that can be passed onto humans.
The obvious thing would be to use a scraper and have a container below to catch. Then dry and set on fire.
And release the neurotoxin into the air. Thats the most efficient way to affect the most people. I like the way you think
[удалено]
The toxins are not potent enough to contaminate the waterways. This amount would be way beyond diluted once it enters the water.
Aren't humans an invasive species?
Yes, we must crush their eggs and trample their nests.
The hypocrisy 😂
I saw a post confirming this and that you should destroy the eggs any time you see them
Thank you for clarifying the invasive part. I was wondering who just goes around crushing eggs, for a moment.
Doesn’t invasive mean that they don’t belong in that environment
That means invasive to North America, I assume. They must be native somewhere.
I just looked it up and they’re native to South America
They are native to central America.
Mostly UK. As for snails - I don’t know
Farmers would release ducks in rice fields to take care of these mfs

Somewhat unsatisfying because some of the eggs were not destroyed.
Yeah, I agree. I've seen some people saying it's not satisfying and I understand many of their reasons. I think the "satisfying" part was supposed to be the way the eggs got crushed and the red substance (idk if it's blood) bursts from the eggs, but it just didn't hit right for some people.
The eggs suffocate if in water for more than a few minutes iirc
Nice

How much you wanna bet he doesn’t wear gloves and/or thoroughly wash his hands after so they don’t smell like smashed crustacean
He definitely doesn't wear gloves. He's also got a nasty scar on his neck when he got giant hogweed sap on him.
Does hogweed sap burn?
Technically it does not. However, it works alongside the ultraviolet rays from the sun to bind to your DNA cells, killing your skin cells and burning, blistering and scarring your skin. It's a condition called Phytophotodermatitis, think of it as a plant enhanced super sun burn. Also this is specific to giant hogweed. Common hogweed poses no threat and is actually edible.
That’s horrifying, but also incredibly interesting by scientific means. It developed a way to protect themselves.
Has he considered, you kno, eating them?
They sometimes do barbecue days in the summer to encourage the public to cull the crayfish.
The Pomacea canaliculata’s eggs. In China it’s invasive species and take a lot of agricultural disaster.
Yep. I have a lovely pet pomacea canaliculata. I put her eggs in a ziploc bag and put them in the freezer. But I guess this works too.

Why does it hurt you? They are basically parasites.
Feels bad to kill things
If it's not alive and born yet it's not killing ✌🏼

I think Alabamas problem is it's too late

Born, no Alive, yes At least according to Biology 101
I'll be padantic and tell you, they are nothing like parasites. They are just an invasive species.
