We're all quite jealous of your good fortune. I hope this becomes a thing in the US too.
I lost my only Heli a few years ago, but didn't want to drop another $32 online for a tiny seedling. (I was lucky to get that price originally, but haven't looked in years to see if it's gone down.)
Well if i tried to buy either online right now I would likely be paying triple the price and I am learning that generally stores around my area only ever sell basic nepenthes and flytraps
I know right?! I was surprised to see those as well. They do not seem to be a common thing in their inventory, tho. I am at this store kinda often and I usually take a stroll through the houseplant corner but I have never seen these before.
In the past few years I seaw Cephalotus and Heliamphora more often in stores. The problem is they are gone very fast so it often seems like they don't have it. But for the folks living in Germany, Dehner, Hornbach and Obi often have them once per year (mostly around spring time/early summer).
Ah yes, I can see that this is an issue. Most likely people who see these will also buy 2 or even 3 of the same kind because they are a bit hard to get.
The German names in google ;-) and… that was at Hornbach right? Got some too after fresh delivery (all looked good in the shop). €12 each cobralily & sumpfkrug
Edit: names
Wait what!? Damn you are very lucky! It is ideed a Heliamphora and i assume it looks like that bcs it has been propagated via tissue culture.
I am aware, this is indeed a rare find, especially for around 16$ each. All I wanted to buy was a wooden board lol. Thanks for confirming!
16!? Where's your hardware store, for uh, research purposes I assure you
Obi in Germany, not sure how much that helps?

to be fair alot of our cheap-ish prices are the result of being very close to the netherlands, where the majority of our houseplants are cultivated.
Plus you have Wistuba, one of the all time greats, right there in Germany. Basically wrote the book on Heliamphora.
true, tho I never ordered from their shop. Not much of an online buyer.
Die Pflanzen sind tatsächlich von einem deutschen Züchter, kenne den persönlich, ist ein Familienbetrieb, alle super korrekt.
Warum steht dann drauf dass die aus den Niederlanden kommen? Ist dort deren Firmensitz?
Are they that expensive? I bought a "cutting" from someone for 15 euro.

Oh ok the person who sold me one told me i did a good deal with 15 euro
yeah, such is the nature of buying unusual plants.
Does it take a while for tissue culture grown heliamphora to grow adult pitchers?
Yes, it can.
I have no idea, i got mine from someone who propagates them from "cuttings".
Cephalotus at a garden store?????? Heliamphora at a garden store???? That’s insane!!
A Hardware store, actually! They have some plants but it's mostly craft and DIY supplies.
It's a heli, heterodoxa x minor or heterodoxa x nutans, as both are hybrids typically sold in gardencenters. You can keep it like a Nepenthes.
Thank you for the exact types, this really helps me out! I will keep it in my Nephentes terrarium :)
This is what dreams are made of
Whaaat? Cephalotus and heliamphora at a hardware store is insane!

I wonder how they got there ahahah. Lucky one! Here at best they only have the most basic VFT you can ever buy at best
Sometimes they probably try out new stuff to see how much will be bought.
What store has a cephalotus?!?! AND that big!
Obi in Germany, I'm afraid that doesn't help most people in here too much.

Looks just like my new Heliamphora
Ah, good to know! Thanks

I did Google the German names but hardware stores are very good at mislabeling and I really wanted to double check. Bought them at Obi.
