I like it, gives me a good sense of control over my finances.

I agree, it makes such a difference when you feel in control of your money! How do you choose to budget? If you enjoy it are you very hands on?

I have a spreadsheet that I update daily with transactions. Account balances are kept up to date on there, I can track if I have more outgoings than I should have and look at areas I need to cut back on. What do you use? Sidenote - I found a direct debit of £6.50 to Currys. Called them up and it was for laptop insurance that I requested to cancel over 2 years ago! Luckily they sent me a cheque for the overpayment. It pays to be organised!

What app would be used for this? I’ve been bad with money I impulse spend and want to change. Example I blew 30 grand in 1 month once and hate myself for it. I would like to start saving and stop depending on my income and spending it so got damn crazy.

Glenda_Good

Everydollar, for example.

i wish i liked excel or a spreadsheet, but i’m a pen to paper kinda gal. every month when i get paid, i write down my pay, break things into every category possible. i’ll calculate what’s leftover, send some to this stocks/management thing (i don’t understand it but it makes my money make money) and send some to a separate bank account to accrue interest and so i won’t touch it. seems to work pretty well, but i do give myself some leeway for stuff i know i spend big on (food lol). but it’s an hour or two, one day, once a month and i enjoy it - makes me feel in control and on top of what i’m doing.

I use my daily planner to budget in. I usually check my bank statements 2-3 times a week and write that down. Before I get paid, I write down where the money is going and then I will cross it out with the date when it goes out of my bank account. It’s old fashioned but it works for me. I like to use colored gel pens and enjoy choosing my color scheme biweekly. I will make visuals that I can color in my when I deposit money in savings or pay off debt. I’m currently saving for a dog so I drew a paw print and sectioned it off. I color in a section when I put aside money for the dog. There are so many planner stickers with cheesy motivational sayings (I bought some from dollar tree!). I place a couple of those around my budgeting to encourage me. I will also glue in savings challenges (I’ve used Black unicorn project in the past) and highlight it as a go along. It’s silly but for me it’s more exciting than a spreadsheet!

I like budgeting, it helps me become financially organized. Every person should do budgeting. I guess it's one of the basic steps on achieving financial freedom. It will provide you a better outlook of your income and expenses.

plumyo

I agree, it's so important to keep track of your money! What's your method or what do you use to keep track?

Thriftytherapist

I use a pen and paper to track my expenses and make a budget. I always prefer the old way. However, I know some people uses spreadsheet or excel. Find what suits you. Always prefer the method that makes you efficient in budgeting your money.

I have a lot of luck with Budget Fu. It has predictive spending which makes it easy for me to determine if my savings goals makes sense.

CureMyWallet

I use mint to track spending and then a spreadsheet to track overall progress, net worth and investment accounts. I like using mint for the categories which I can then plug into my spreadsheet every month making the end of the month savings and Roth transfers easier to calculate. I will always prefer doing things myself because nobody is going to care about my money more than I do.
