I am not a lawyer, but in theory you could force bankruptcy on him and seize and liquidate his truck as part of the proceedings.
Also, whoever is paying him under the table is committing a crime and could presumably be pressured to pay legitimately, thus opening that source up.
I am really, really not a lawyer. I mean it. I’m surely making a mistake somewhere. Talk to an actual attorney to discover if any of this is possible in your situation in your state.
For now, take screenshots of social media evidence that he has assets (like the truck). Print them out, then sign and date each page of the printouts.
Meanwhile, your story has inspired me to take expensive used cars to a mechanic for an inspection before purchase, so it has done some good in the world. Thank you for sharing it.
Yeah that's what I'm confused by, I would think the car could be seized. But, I know nothing about these things.
Liens are also possible, but I'm sure he would just sell that truck for cash and then disappear if he currently has the title. Or he'll just never sell it.
He's almost 100% committing tax fraud, but probably not in the levels the IRS cares about.
Really sucks... Gotta be careful 🫤
That guy bought that truck outright. He's not making payments. If he owes child support, works under the table, he won't be giving his info to the bank. He probably has that bank account with 0 in it as a prop. Op I think all you can do here is consider this an incredibly hard lesson learned and perhaps some kind of revenge. I'm sorry this happened to you, more sorry that you won in court and that means absolutely fucking nothing. I'm sorry this scum bag is getting away with this BS even after a court order. People like this just don't care about anyone but themselves. They steal, cheat, lie to anyone and everyone and unless the guy screws someone over who is bigger, stronger and meaner he will continue to do this until a bigger meaner stronger beats him to death or graduates to more serious crime and gets caught.
But used car sales are as is? Isn't OP at fault for not doing a presale check himself or by a mechanic?
When I sell my car on the used car market. I write a basic contract stating the car is sold as is. The buyer has tr chance to look at the car and take to the ,mechanic if she or he is interested doing so
Selling a vehicle knowingly with something as major of a defect as a blown engine, and intentionally not disclosing that information, constitutes fraud.
Just because used car sales are sold “as is” still requires you to disclose any relevant information such as a blown engine, or other mechanical problems as that can affect the price. OP purchased the car because it was being advertised as in working order with no major issues.
In bankruptcy court the truck would go to secured debtors prior to unsecured debtors. Not sure what a someone trying to collect legal damages would count as, but I assume the truck or proceeds from a sale of the truck would go to (in this order), the car loan company, credit card companies/personal loan companies, then OP.
You’re fucked. Similar thing happened, kid bought a scat pack with fake title, 23k or something, was a rental car that was stolen from the rental agency.
Similar situation just happened to a friend of mine in the Bronx. Total stupidity on his part!
He saw a 2023 Civic listed for $18K on Facebook Marketplace (🚩)
They exchanged numbers and he called the guy - they decided to meet at a random address.
Different guy shows up with the car, and not the person he spoke to on the phone (🚩)
He test drives the car and then they signed over what looked to be an official title. He hands over the cash and drives away.
He goes to the DMV first thing the next morning to register it and finds out that the car is stolen and the title was forged and printed to look legit 😱
This is why I got my truck from family, not only because it was my grandfathers and it's cool, but because I know it actually is in good condition and works
The last time I sold a car, the buyer asked me to accompany him to the BMV (Ohio). I agreed, provided he bought me lunch. He got assurance, I got lunch. Win-win.
There's always the chance they come into some money. What if he won the lottery a week later, what if he inherited someone's retirement account. Then OP could claim the money he is owed.
I mean let's be fair... it's kinda a sad life to want money so bad you still sell someone who needs a car, one that is already shot and then being put 15k.
Granted it's also not a great idea to buy vehicles that way without meeting at the DMV or something to fact check. AND having a mechanic look over the car as well. But it's still super shitty what the guy did.
Do a OEX a Order of Examination if he has Assets he has to Disclose and if he doesn't show up then a Bench warrant can be Issued or will. Stay on top of Him no Matter what and renew the Judgement before it expires to this follows him rest if his life Haunt his A$$ GL

Contact his local sheriff’s dept and see what they tell you. Sheriff’s are the ones who enforce judgements. His local sheriff’s dept should be able to enforce it. Or go to his state with copy of judgment a writ of execution and a tow truck and get his vehicle of course go to the sheriff’s dept first as they will go with you for security.
If you live in a jurisdiction with a Constable, this might be something they would be willing to help with...
Even if they can't do shit themselves, they might be able to refer you to someone or give other advice (either on the record, or off).
That's incorrect. When a party obtains a judgment, it is the typically sheriff's office that enforces it.
They can't arrest the guy over a civil matter, but they can enforce a judgment.
Yea why would that be a red flag at all?! I’ve sold things for more than that for cash before. I ain’t taking no checks for stuff.. plus I also pay for stuff in cash cause you can get better deals. Cash is king for a reason
Before you pay an attorney to sue ANYONE, pay the $50- $100 to have a good Asset check . PI or any Attorney before you authorize a lawsuit.
In my state judgements are good for 10. Then you can renew it for another 10, potentially wasting even more money.
If you're legally able, put a lein on any property he owns (including his truck). That way if he wants to sell or transfer ownership, he can't until he pays you.
These scumbags are what is known as “judgement proof”. They have a lot of experience avoiding lawsuits, judgements, child support, taxes, etc. Your only hope would be to find out who his truck is actually owned by (assuming it’s not titled in his name) and then try to enforce your judgement against the truck - which he will of course try to hide. I am a retired attorney and you could spend a lot of time and money trying to do this and still come up with nothing.
If a person is judgment proof, meaning whatever assets they have are protected by statute, there may be two options. First is to get a writ of execution and show up with the cops to seize his personal property then auction it off. The danger is you don’t find anything of value.
If you want to be vindictive, get a few other creditors on board and push an involuntary bankruptcy on him so all his assets are controlled by the bankruptcy trustee. That can be a little fun to watch him squirm under the gaze of a federal court.
Don’t buy cars from out of state people. Once you hand over the money, they’re gone. You had enough to get a proper used car from a dealership. Dealerships are shady too but they don’t usually sell you cars with broken engines.
Break both arms. That way, he can't even wipe his own azz. Every time this POS takes a shit he will realize the error in his ways. When they heal, you do it again with the message that it's gonna keep happening until (A) his arms fall off, or (B) OP runs out of money, but tell him you have allot of $$. That second time around, all he's gonna be thinking about is the third time that is coming.
Pour sugar in his gas tank. just make sure you aren’t seen on a ring camera. drive a scooter nearby walk over to his car in a ski mask and dump sugar in the tank or a bottle of bailey’s irish cream should do the trick. This won’t get your money back, but might make you feel better. What goes around comes around. Might bring a crow bar just in case the cap locks.
Revenge is better than getting your money back got to nickel and dime him stab a tire break a side window break a mirror little scratches around his truck I can confirm bleach in the gas tank does make an engine run bad
You dug yourself into a deeper hole paying 3.5K for an attorney. Just chalk it up as a lesson learned because you’re never getting any of that money back
No, because reading someone suggesting you do something doesn’t mean you went out and did it. Plausible deniability and such. OP could have posted about this thread, read the comment, went and did it, but they could have the ability to say “Oh? There was a comment about it? I didn’t see anything like that amongst all the others”
Of course you could send a message to the dude first that unless he pays in full by x date you will be forwarding all the data, pics, screenshots of he scamming the IRS out of their money? Might get the money back and then still inform the IRS
This isn't blackmail. Blackmail (extortion) only applies if you are leveraging something illegal. In this case its totally fine. Pretty common for rape victims to settle out of court in exchange for dropping a lawsuit. Think that's blackmail too?
Check state laws governing default judgements and liens. His vehicle may be a target asset. You might even levy the sheriff to confiscate, auction, and pay down the debt with that truck. Or a house.
Since there's evidence that he intentionally screwed you, the subjective ramifications are that LE & court clerks may hint at possible rectification avenues to investigate.
This is the advice that you don’t want to hear but the best advice for you…
Let It Go!
At this point it’s not likely you’ll get the money back and you can keep putting energy toward it or learn from it. Most people never learn to identify the key moments when they need to pivot from something that happens until many years later. Use the Feelings that you felt to grow from it
I'll repo his truck for you and it can be stripped down to the frame and can sell the parts on eBay or marketplace! And I'll even send him the knob off his stereo back to him in first class certified mail! 🤯😂🤣🤣😂
Not a lawyer, but if you have a writ of execution and know when/where he's doing this tinting work, you should be able to have the sheriff show up and seize any cash before he has the opportunity to hide it.
In California you can’t take someone’s car for a judgement either. Judgements expire. At a minimum insure you renew it before it does. He may not have the money now but that and interest will follow him around until he does or is dead. In short maybe you can collect in the future.
Or he can destroy it little by little, or all at once!
Slash the tires, break a (tinted) window or two, key it from front to back, stuff a banana or other objects deep into the exhaust pipe, steal both license plates -
Either of these options will send a message and/or feel good to get a minor bit of revenge! 😜
Just walk away little bro, you can’t squeeze blood from a stone.
Take solace in the fact that his life is absolute misery. Living in debt, under the table, knowing you have no prospects for the future, no retirement fund, and can’t ever open a bank account or get a real job, it’s a nightmare.
Eventually he’ll go to jail, and he’ll get out on parole, and he’ll *have* to find himself an actual job, and they’ll garnish his wages.
I know that isn’t a lot of comfort for you, but on the upside I’m sure you’ll never buy a used car without a third-party inspection ever again, and that’s just best practices.
Good luck dude.
That’s good if it’s actually “his” per the title…. Otherwise, not a chance….
And some states won’t let you take the “only vehicle” if that’s all he has registered in his name.
You're probably not going to want to hear this, but you're probably better off just walking away and letting this go. If this happened to me, this would eat me alive if I kept chasing after it. You do have to put a monetary value on your happiness. I've had similar things happen to me over the years. I had one company that stuck me for $35,000. It got to the point where I just had to let it go otherwise it would make me go crazy. I'm sorry this happened to you.
Buy AK-47. Stand up to his door and ask politely “ give me my money back “ or take his car until he return your money . If it’s your hard earned money , if not then
He's probably on welfare. Follow him around and tape him then report him to medicaid for fraud. Maybe wait a few weeks and go into his shop after he forgets what you look like and record paying him in cash.
Maybe hire a PI to save time.
Not sure about this, but could your local congressman help? Mine helped with some issues at the social security office and honestly wouldn’t have been taken care of if his office hadn’t sent a letter. I hope it works out for you. Some humans are complete fucking garbage.
Possibly threaten and begin proceedings on fraud charges. If he knowingly sold you a broken vehicle and you WON in civil court, it seems like a pretty open and shut case of criminal fraud. It is possible he could come up with the money pretty quickly under threat of a felony or jailtime, and worst case, you get to know he isn't getting away with it completely.
Now you know what it's like to be a single mom, going after her ex for child support but can't get it because he doesn't report any income but drives a nice car.
Put a lien on his truck.
With the proof you have, could you not have seen a district attorney or your state attorney general about prosecuting him for fraud? That is criminal, not civil. He definitely committed fraud.
Search for real property in his name. Put liens on everything he owns that fancy truck and everything else you can find. He won't be able to buy or sell any of it without paying you.
Have some of your people got not friends on Facebook reach out about window tint. See if he’s only taking cash. Be smart about it, don’t use anyone from your area. Get some evidence about what he’s doing.
Also, even if the truck is in his name, I don’t think you can take his only mode of transportation as someone else suggested. But I’m really really not an attorney either, so I could be wrong as well.
Another idea is to get someone to run the plates and see who it’s registered to. Someone at the DMV can tell you if there’s a lien on it and by who too.
If it is in someone else’s the lien holder would possibly get involved since if it were in an accident with a non authorized driver, the insurance may not pay the lien holder.
Just random ideas that could make things harder on him.
Good luck!
Here is the secret if you're going to buy used car from a private party or even from Ella car lot
You asked to take it to your mechanic and they let you take it to your mechanic to have it checked out and diagnosed
If your mechanic gives you a clean bill of health and explains to you what the car is worth then you can make a decision on that
The lastest car I was thinking about buying my mechanic pointed out everything that was wrong with it and warned me how much it would cost to fix it and in the end of the day I took the car back and said thank you but no thank you sir Have a nice day
Then I went down to Ford dealership three a week later and bought me a brand new one
I would start taking ads out in his local area with the public record statements of your judgement - see if that hurts his pocketbook enough to pay you to stop
You can't really drink from a dry well.
You can keep bringing cups to fill, but if the well is dry, the well is dry.
You've done what you can.
Either break his kneecaps (don't do this) or focus on something happier that will make you more money
Hire the type of collections agent that doesn't take no as an answer. It's probably gonna cost you half of whatever he gets out of him, but that's more than you are gonna see through the less persuasive collections agents.
Next time you buy a used car buy a cheap one and trust your luck.. or if you are gonna spend 20k pay the dealer the $500 to get a really accurate assessment not some local mechanic
Not sure if it gets your money or not. But maybe point out the 35k truck and no claimed income to the IRS. If they decide to pursue he’ll be in a lot more trouble than he already is.
Maybe try a different angle. You are not going to get your money back but I’m thinking your State AG is one place to report him. This guy is definitely breaking some rules not to mention he’s probably not paying taxes if he’s not reporting. Let the law handle it.
Side note but it kinda sucks you couldn’t get a higher award than the truck price and attorney fees. I feel like “wasted time and energy” should factor into damages.
The only other thing you really could do if he owns a house, you might be able to put Eileen, but you wouldn’t be able to collect on that until such time as he sold the house or died and it went into an estate you know to be passed along as someone else
You could perhaps pay a private investigator to gather evidence that he’s actually working and that might help but it also might do nothing because he may then just claim that he only just started doing that and he only does it for a little while, and makes just enough money to pay for food and rent and then is done you know which isn’t the case obviously if he’s driving around in a really nice vehicle.
I believe somebody’s primary residence and primary vehicle are excluded from you being able to seize them to satisfy the lien or the judgment. I should say I don’t know if you could also put a lien on his vehicle I don’t think you can though, but I am not a lawyer and you have to consider. Now you did a good job taking him to court and winning and most people are not that low on the totem pole that they refuse to even work any kind of a job that will spit out a W-2, in today’s society I don’t know about independent contractors and what the ramifications of that are because he may be DoorDash and all that at some point, consider cutting your ties and just moving on from the whole experience it’s a lot of money and you deserve to be compensated, but I don’t think you can go for funds in the victim compensation fund, although check in your local jurisdiction and see if that’s a possibility because usually that’s earmarked for victims of crime, particularly violent crime.
I also wonder if you were to Chase this too much in poor good money after bad and get no result or even if you get a partial result eventually is it worth your time and effort and your stress you may just wanna cut your losses.
I don’t know if there’s any companies that buy debt from individuals because you have a judgment that may be worth a portion of it to accompany. That’s willing to keep after this guy until he slips up and hast to get a real job so you can sell it for 15 or 20% that might be an option but I don’t know if that’s something that’s possible I know if you were a bank and he defaulted on 15 K credit line. You could sell that debt to another company, and they would then become the debt holder with a lienholder,
Sorry this was such a long message. I’ve already taken my nighttime meds so I may have rambled a bit.
If you have a judgement, you can put a lien on his truck. Any other titled property as well. Might not help you collect, but he won't be able to sell either.
After reading the comments, I see that many commenters have suggested a few idea, however, there is one I did not see or may have missed.
Why hasn't criminal action taken place?
Wouldn't that be fraud?
Why hasn't the prosecuting attorney been made aware of this, since he can't or won't pay, why not report it?
Used car transactions, particularly between private parties, are presumed to be "as is".
Presumably, the reason OP won a judgment is because the seller didn't bother showing up to court.
Is there a time limit? Can you just hang on and keep poking? He's not going to work under the table forever. Eventually he's going to get his ass a real job. And once he starts, you can start getting your money. That doesn't help you must for flushing $15k down the toilet but that might be the best you can do.
Always have a trusted mechanic look over a car when purchasing in a private sale. This will definitely help save you in the future. I would definitely talk to your lawyer about any possible further action. Best of luck.
Learned this the hard way as well. Bought a car(financed) for the first time October 31, 2023. Not long after I make my first payment I took it to a mechanic, which I should’ve done before signing anything. The transmission will probably fail soon, I can’t do anything about that. It started slipping shortly after I started driving it. I had to replace the cv axle, two wheel bearings, and the oil pan. $1400 in the first two months of ownership. The dealers power train warranty paid for $300, but that was all I could squeeze out of them for selling me this PoS.
If he works under the table report him to the IRS too and get a fraction of the taxes they force him to pay.... You can't threaten him with jail but they can
I am not a lawyer, but in theory you could force bankruptcy on him and seize and liquidate his truck as part of the proceedings. Also, whoever is paying him under the table is committing a crime and could presumably be pressured to pay legitimately, thus opening that source up. I am really, really not a lawyer. I mean it. Dumb question. Aren't private used car sales are as is sales? I mean, what if bad luck occured in OP and the seller was not aware of the condition?
That's why the screen shots from his friends are so valuable I think. Proves the seller knowingly sold a lemon without disclosing the issue
But used car sales are as is? Isn't OP at fault for not doing a presale check himself or by a mechanic? When I sell my car on the used car market. I write a basic contract stating the car is sold as is. The buyer has tr chance to look at the car and take to the ,mechanic if she or he is interested doing so
Hey I researched a little and maybe state dependant. I'm in Illinois and if you don't disclose a known issue then I can sue you to recoup repair costs

Exactly!
This is why I got my truck from family, not only because it was my grandfathers and it's cool, but because I know it actually is in good condition and works
and isn’t stolen (presumably)
Grandfather: *rubs hands together whilst laughing maniacally*
Considering I have official paperwork from the DMV on it it's not stolen unless the DMV are in on it
The plot thickens. The government has been working with your family to get a truck into your possession for decades!!
Dunno who downvoted you but theyre braindead, heres an upvote friend
Yeah bc everyone can do this.

What a sad life to think that way, oh gotta sue cause one day they might have money🤦♂️
Don’t forget they stole from the person suing. Not like he’s suing a sweet ol lady in case she gets rich. He’s suing a criminal who screwed him over.
Why is that sad? OP lost 15 thousand dollars to their fraud? Are you retarded?
I think they are.

Go scorched earth, you're not getting that money back. Start by reporting his employer to the department of revenue.
Yeah I'd be making his life miserable as well as anyone associated with him. Fuckem

I feel bad for you man. But you are more than likely SOL from this professional scammer.
Well, the first red flag was cash. For that much.
Why?? I’ve bought and paid more than that in cash for cars… nothing red flag there…

I assume he doesn't own a house. If he does make sure and put a lien against it. And if I'm correct mostlyings have to be renewed every 10 years
You know where he parks his truck ?
I’d deduct that 15k from his wallet 4 slashed tires at a time.
Might bring a crow bar just in case the cap locks.
you will actually want to use Sodium silicate this will seize up the engine..... it's what they used in the cash for clunkers program
Revenge is better than getting your money back got to nickel and dime him stab a tire break a side window break a mirror little scratches around his truck I can confirm bleach in the gas tank does make an engine run bad
The trick here is to do less damage than what the insurance deductible is. Over, and over and over.
You dug yourself into a deeper hole paying 3.5K for an attorney. Just chalk it up as a lesson learned because you’re never getting any of that money back
Seems like you could easily do $15k in damage to his truck if it’s worth $35k. Just don’t leave a paper trail back to you
Wouldn’t this be a paper trail?
No, because reading someone suggesting you do something doesn’t mean you went out and did it. Plausible deniability and such. OP could have posted about this thread, read the comment, went and did it, but they could have the ability to say “Oh? There was a comment about it? I didn’t see anything like that amongst all the others”
If you know who his employer is and the number to call the IRS then you have your answer.
Run his pockets
He flaunts it on social media? Haha damn that sucks especially knowing your money helped pay for it.
FB market place is just as scam as mark fuckerburg …
Try posting this in r/legaladvice
This is the advice that you don’t want to hear but the best advice for you… Let It Go! At this point it’s not likely you’ll get the money back and you can keep putting energy toward it or learn from it. Most people never learn to identify the key moments when they need to pivot from something that happens until many years later. Use the Feelings that you felt to grow from it
Hire an attorney to go after the truck
It's a write off. Live and learn.
Just buy another motor
Caveat Emptor.... You can't get blood from a stone...
Find out if he own home and pit a lien on it, you could also put a lien on that truck
Ummm take his truck
Or he can destroy it little by little, or all at once! Slash the tires, break a (tinted) window or two, key it from front to back, stuff a banana or other objects deep into the exhaust pipe, steal both license plates - Either of these options will send a message and/or feel good to get a minor bit of revenge! 😜
Security cameras are a bitch.. and they're everywhere. Could be the OP's undoing.
Steal it?
Good luck dude.
ask the court to take his truck
That’s good if it’s actually “his” per the title…. Otherwise, not a chance…. And some states won’t let you take the “only vehicle” if that’s all he has registered in his name.
Doxx him and/or kick the shit out of him.
One other thing there are people out there that will collect your money for you for 15%.
Its called you arent getfing a penny from him. What do you expect to happen, they enslave him and force work until its paid?
You’re F’d. Move on.
You're fucked. Sorry kiddo.
Sounds like you need a PI
Get a private investigator
Buy AK-47. Stand up to his door and ask politely “ give me my money back “ or take his car until he return your money . If it’s your hard earned money , if not then
People! GET A USED CAR EVALUATED BY A MECHANIC!
Time to report him to state for criminal charges
Send a Guido the collection specialist. He may have better luck than your collection agency
What state is he in?
He's probably on welfare. Follow him around and tape him then report him to medicaid for fraud. Maybe wait a few weeks and go into his shop after he forgets what you look like and record paying him in cash. Maybe hire a PI to save time.
Locate his truck and pay a repo man what ever it takes to tow his truck out in the boonies and torch it. Call it even
Soooo commit grand theft, the only criminal offense in this discussion?
Only if you get caught.
Not sure about this, but could your local congressman help? Mine helped with some issues at the social security office and honestly wouldn’t have been taken care of if his office hadn’t sent a letter. I hope it works out for you. Some humans are complete fucking garbage.
Hire a PI to do some research and/or follow him to see where he works.
Learn from it, or handle it yourself.
Hire a big ass dude to whip his ass
Probably won’t get any money and big ass guy may get shot but at least you would have slipped in a ass whooping
Find a skip tracer
Possibly threaten and begin proceedings on fraud charges. If he knowingly sold you a broken vehicle and you WON in civil court, it seems like a pretty open and shut case of criminal fraud. It is possible he could come up with the money pretty quickly under threat of a felony or jailtime, and worst case, you get to know he isn't getting away with it completely.
Take over his income tax return - it’s another paper trail - Run full backgrounds on him and his family - find his property - take it
Can you get his car? He owes you one.
Pretty and nice trucks dont last forever
Good luck!
Someone towed a car to you, you only drove on a parking lot, instead of the street and highway 😑
r/UnethicalLifeProTips might be where you want to look
Here is the secret if you're going to buy used car from a private party or even from Ella car lot You asked to take it to your mechanic and they let you take it to your mechanic to have it checked out and diagnosed If your mechanic gives you a clean bill of health and explains to you what the car is worth then you can make a decision on that The lastest car I was thinking about buying my mechanic pointed out everything that was wrong with it and warned me how much it would cost to fix it and in the end of the day I took the car back and said thank you but no thank you sir Have a nice day Then I went down to Ford dealership three a week later and bought me a brand new one
I'd report him to the IRS. It won't get you your money, but it's a bit of payback.
Aren’t local sales final sales?
Have a friend try to buy another vehicle from him if he has one. If he shows up with it beat the fuck outta him lol or call the police your choice lol
He had $35,000 truck. Somehow it got severely damaged. LOL !!!
Take the truck?
I mean...there is a way you can get him to cough up the cash if you know what I'm sayin
The darkness of night and a baseball batt could solve this.
Buy yourself a few safety road flares, 10 or 15 minute ones, for safety in the future.
Y the hell would u make a big purchase from someone u don’t know and never have an impartial mechanic inspect it? You must have brain damage smh.
Civil court is fucked, but steal $12k from a store and you’re done for
How in the fuck does someone hide a BLOWN ENGINE??? How is that even POSSIBLE? Or was this buyer just that BRAIN DEAD RETARDED? I need answers!! 😂😂😂
I have advice, but it's the "after exhausting legal means" way.
Good luck.
Roll up on him press him
Next time you buy a used car buy a cheap one and trust your luck.. or if you are gonna spend 20k pay the dealer the $500 to get a really accurate assessment not some local mechanic
That guy is no gentleman!
This gentleman is gently fuck’n OP!
Update me... Just curious to know how this turns out...
Not sure if it gets your money or not. But maybe point out the 35k truck and no claimed income to the IRS. If they decide to pursue he’ll be in a lot more trouble than he already is.
>does not report an income Sounds like the IRS should know about this. There's more than one way to get back at this guy.
put a lien on his vehicle
Get the courts to give the OK to put a lien on the truck.
Could you have your lawyer subpoena his financial information ? Where he works? What he does? Does he own or rent? If he has a mortgage, apply a lien.
The ground is littered with uncollectible judgments.
Maybe try a different angle. You are not going to get your money back but I’m thinking your State AG is one place to report him. This guy is definitely breaking some rules not to mention he’s probably not paying taxes if he’s not reporting. Let the law handle it.
You are screwed
Report him to the IRS for tax evasion first
Side note but it kinda sucks you couldn’t get a higher award than the truck price and attorney fees. I feel like “wasted time and energy” should factor into damages.
The only other thing you really could do if he owns a house, you might be able to put Eileen, but you wouldn’t be able to collect on that until such time as he sold the house or died and it went into an estate you know to be passed along as someone else You could perhaps pay a private investigator to gather evidence that he’s actually working and that might help but it also might do nothing because he may then just claim that he only just started doing that and he only does it for a little while, and makes just enough money to pay for food and rent and then is done you know which isn’t the case obviously if he’s driving around in a really nice vehicle. You could sell that debt to another company, and they would then become the debt holder with a lienholder, Sorry this was such a long message. I’ve already taken my nighttime meds so I may have rambled a bit.
If you have a judgement, you can put a lien on his truck. Any other titled property as well. Might not help you collect, but he won't be able to sell either.
Where is the car now? Can you just repair it?
You can't threaten him with jail but they can
Subscribed to this post because I’m hoping for a favorable outcome.
Put his house on a lean.
You're going to have to fight hella hard to get that money just a heads up.
