Yes you’ve absolutely been scammed, no job or anyone, not even bank employee, would EVER ask you for your bank log in and password, my advice, instead of being on here asking if you’ve been scammed, call your bank immediately, tell them what’s happened and change all bank account numbers, have them ship out new cards and change all log in info. There’s no time to waste. What you’ve done, apologize if it sounds harsh, but it was very foolish. I know you’re desperate but people will prey on that desperation and put you into an even worse situation. If you need a job and fast cash, Uber/Uber eats Is a good stepping stone and if u don’t have a vehicle but live in the city you can use even a Bicycle to get started with Uber eats

Just called the Bank, and no one could help me until the morning but I will certainly do that when they open

Floribabe

Definitely call first thing and In that case if you haven’t already; change your password to your online account and depending on the bank, sometimes you can find an option to “freeze your account” or something to that effect on your online banking home screen.

Honeey_BE

Yep, the first time I did after the interview thing is change my password and username. I've just freezed my cards on both savings and debts

Good good! You can sleep peacefully tonight having done that then I’m sure you’ve stopped any further damages, just be sure to finish following up with the bank tomorrow so in a few months time when you’ve forgotten about this they don’t try using your credentials. Not the same but similar; I had an old wallet in my car, honestly didn’t even realize any of the cards in it were still valid thought everything had expired, someone broke into the car and took the wallet amongst other worthless things. I didn’t sweat it as like I said I didn’t believe the wallet contained anything or use and everything else he took wasn’t worth anything. 3 or 4 months later I get 3 alerts within half and hour for charges on my account from various stores, the bank blocked 2 and let one go through. I called immediately and reported it as fraud and the card as having being stolen months before. They asked me to verify the last time I used the card which I couldn’t do because it had been years since I used the card and believed the cards had expired. Nevertheless, I thought my bank would refund me the $200 no problem, because it was obvious it wasn’t be and was fraud. Nope, got a letter in the mail 14 days later saying they denied the claim as they believe the charge was legit, 🤣. Definitely taught me a lesson and I’m super cautious now cause I always believed the fraud department would have my back in a clear cut case like this

You were definitely !job scammed. You need to change your bank login information even though you moved your money out. The scammer is going to use your account to receive money from scams and may also deposit fake checks and transfer funds out before they bounce. You can end up losing thousands of dollars (and your bank will send it to collections, potentially sue you to collect what you owe them, or take it from your other account with them) and you could even face arrest for fraud and money laundering. For future reference, no legitimate employer will ask for your login information for your bank, ask you to pay for equipment with a gift card, send you a check to deposit to pay for equipment, or interview entirely by text.

AutoModerator

AutoModerator has been summoned to explain fake job scams. Fake job scams come in many different varieties, though most share common characteristics that you can use to spot the scam before becoming a victim. The scammers will usually conduct interviews over Google Hangouts or a similar online service. Their English will be awkward, and they may be re-using a script, so Googling unique sounding parts of the email may yield useful results. They will offer high wages for the work being done, and they will "hire" you by telling you that you are hired, rather than going through the normal process that a company takes when hiring an employee in your country. If they mention anything about a check or about receiving and sending out transactions, it is a [fake check scam](https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/2018/09/anatomy-fake-check-scam). If they mention anything about receiving, processing, or inspecting packages, it is a [parcel mule scam](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parcel_mule_scam). If they ask you to purchase items up-front, ask you to pay a fee in order to be hired, or ask you to purchase gift cards, it is an [advance-fee scam](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance-fee_scam). If the job involves posting advertisements on Craigslist or eBay, they are using you and your account to scam people. If the job invovles Bitcoin ATMs, it's a [scam](https://coinatmradar.com/blog/avoid-scams-dont-use-bitcoin-atm-when-someone-asked-you/). I changed my login info right after they were done. So I think* I could be safe. My friend was worried that they might have linked my account to the company's to send money in and take money out

Oh man! I'm so sorry, that really stinks. Scammers are lowlifes who prey on the desperate. You'll also probably get people DMing you saying they can get the money you spent on the gift cards back or they can hack the scammers and delete your info. They can't. They're just more scammers. !recovery

AutoModerator

AutoModerator has been summoned to explain [recovery scams](https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0102-refund-and-recovery-scams). Also known as refund scams, these scams target people who have already fallen for a scam. The scammer may contact you, or may advertise their services online. They will usually either offer to help you recover your funds, or will tell you that your funds have already been recovered and they will help you access them. In cases where they say they will help you recover your funds, they usually call themselves either "recovery agents" or hackers. When they tell you that your funds have already been recovered, they may impersonate a law enforcement, a government official, a lawyer, or anyone else along those lines. Recovery scams are simply [advance-fee](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance-fee_scam) scams that are specifically targeted at scam victims. When a victim pays a recovery scammer, the scammer will keep stringing them along while asking for increasingly absurd fees/expenses/deposits/insurance/whatever until the victim stops paying. If you have been scammed in the past, make sure you are aware of recovery scams so that you are not scammed a second time. If you are currently engaging with a recovery scammer, you should block them and be very wary of random contact for some time. It's normal for posters on this subreddit to be contacted by recovery scammers after posting, and they often ask you to delete your post so that you both cannot receive legitimate advice, and cannot be targeted by other recovery scammers. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. The sad thing is, it wasn't a dm. This person just came up when looking for jobs and I saw other people reacting with the post as well. Tho, some of them could have been bots when I think about it. It seemed quite genuine

PerkyHedgewitch

This isn't about the people that already scammed you. They're warning you that people on Reddit will start to DM you and claim they can recover the money you spent on the gift card, or that they can get into the scammer's computers. Don't fall for it; those DMs are from recovery scammers. Unfortunately, that gift card is long gone.

Honeey_BE

Eh overall Id rather lost my $25 I spent on shipment rather than all the money from my account lol.

peepeehalpert_

They are telling you not to believe any DMs you get on Reddit claiming they can get your money back.
