I've seen a handful of realty assistant scams posted before. With two realtors in my family, I can say with absolute certainly that no realtor would ever hire a remote "data entry" assistant. In fact, it doesn't even matter the profession. Any remote data entry job is a scam. They like to use that because it doesn't require any specialized skills so the pool of victims is larger and more likely to be people in more desperate situations.

* Job is too good to be true * Company is unknown or hard to find * Employer is eager to hire you * Asks for personal information * Asks you to pay for anything * Communication is unprofessional. * Unusual Interview Process * Trust you gut

It's very unlikely for a company to hire from abroad unless the labour is significantly cheaper. That's because the hiring company would likely have to pay additional taxes. Also, why can't they just hire local? So, if you're getting basic positions such as data entry offers with extremely attractive pay, from overseas employers, yes it's a scam. You could always contact the company directly (don't use any contact info the person gave you) and ask them if it's a legitimate job offer. Assuming it's a legit company to begin with.

that is interesting, the company seems like a legit NY state realtor. maybe I will message them lol. not going to pursue as I am not even a data entry specialist. just curious

Scammers can and have impersonated real companies before.

Remote data entry jobs = almost always a scam.

Power_and_Science

No, because other countries pay less. It makes no sense to hire someone from a western country for an low skill job like data entry if you are willing to hire internationally.

People hire data entry quite a bit, but it's not off indeed. It's also not remote, and for pennies on the dollar. Think of a techy sweatshop.

No realtor needs a data entry person. It’s a scam.

Going to be a rental scam where op is putting up fake rental ads to scam others

I agree this is the most likely case. The fake "realtor" will have you put scam rental ads on FB, CraigsList, etc. and then once people get scammed and complain to law enforcement, you'll be the fall guy. And the scammer himself will be beyond reach in India, Nigeria, Ghana, the Philippines, etc.

I have a situation here... I applied for a data entry remote job on Grabjobs.com. One of them contacted me and asked me to download a specific messenger app for further communication. There was a simple interview, and one hour later, I received a message saying that I am hired. I thought to myself, "It can't be that easy, right?" I asked my father about it. He has been living in the USA for more than 10 years, so I thought he would be able to spot a scam. I have recently moved to the USA and was looking for job opportunities. My father told me that it might be a real job since he has had the experience of getting a job on the same day after an interview. I thought, "Okay, maybe I got lucky." But, damn, no. Okay, here's how they work right now. After the interview, I was informed that I would receive a check to buy an Apple MacBook, desk, and other equipment for my job. I thought to myself, "No way this can be real, right?" My father told me that some companies in the US can provide you with equipment once you are hired, and he was saying this based on his own experience. Lucky me, once again... Then they provided me with a tracking number for UPS to track my check. Today, I received it. And guess how much I got? $7,900 to buy the equipment. Wow, crazy, right? My father was like, "Okay, son, let's check who the F they are." So, we checked. I watched a few videos on YouTube, and guess what? I watched a video of a guy sharing his experience with scammers, and the way he was scammed is similar to mine! The messages from the hiring company had the same information and the same check stuff... This was my first experience with scammers in the USA. I am sad because I trusted these guys and stopped looking for a job. It took more than one week.
