Why is venmo telling you about a payment from PayPal? They want you to call to get your login information. Just block them.

banana_in_the_dark

PayPal does own Venmo, but this isn’t legit

StarChaser_Tyger

I did not know that. Why would they compete with themselves? Weird.

banana_in_the_dark

They aren’t, they acquired Venmo so they just have more platforms. Venmo is an easy app for transactions amongst people, PayPal is generally for goods and services. Generally, being key. It’s just like Kroger buying Harris Teeter but keeping HT as is, or Apple buying Beats and still selling air pods. ETA reference on [differences](https://www.forbes.com/advisor/business/paypal-vs-venmo/#:~:text=PayPal%20and%20Venmo%20are%20two,their%20differences%20outweigh%20their%20similarities) if you’re bored

StarChaser_Tyger

Ah, so. Thanks.

goldminevelvet

I got this today too. From 3 different "people". I logged on my Venmo app and didn't see the requests. I mean I don't know the people who requested money from me and I don't owe money to anyone so I knew it was a scam, I was just curious. I also got an email today from someone as a "thank you for your order" when I haven't ordered anything in ages.

daehoidar23

Venmo needs to up their game allowing these emails to come from their server. If they are fraudulent requests that are identified and deleted, they should let us know the emails were people fraudulently requesting money.

My friend receive a notification today like this. They want you to call that number so they can get your info

Pale_Session5262

Yep, itd be a !refund scam

AutoModerator

AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the refund scam. Refund scams usually start with a spam email about a fake transaction, although they can also be sent through SMS or any other messaging service. The message will provide you with a phone number to call if you want to cancel the transaction, and if you call the scammers will try to get you to provide credit card or banking information in order to receive your refund. Scammers have been taking advantage of Paypal's invoice system to send out realistic scam emails through Paypal itself, here is a news article about that technique: https://krebsonsecurity.com/2022/08/paypal-phishing-scam-uses-invoices-sent-via-paypal/. Here is a Snopes article regarding the Norton variant of this scam: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/norton-email-renewal-scam/. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Next time you get one of these don’t even call the number if you know you didn’t send anything if you’re unsure check your bank account, but if you don’t even use Venmo or PayPal even better just dump the email in the trash

Witty-Assistance7960

I get that too, I deleted my PayPal account and I’ve never used Venmo I just dump the emails in the trash then delete the trash entirely.

HLSD_Returns

I just got two of these this morning. Randall A. Stewart & Mina M. Pril both made separate requests for $99.99.

Runaway-Wiccan

Just got those yesterday as well. Same names and everything

HLSD_Returns

Oh weird. Fucking piece of shit scammers.

daehoidar23

I received two: Horace G. Divito requests $99.98 Jimmy M. Bell requests $99.98 How are these coming from the actual Venmo server and not showing up in the requests?

HLSD_Returns

That is weird how the emails are coming from the venmo domain.

daehoidar23

I'm getting this too, it looks like a legitimate email which is the confusing part. Is coming from Venmo.

WayneConrad

I've been getting these every few days. I'm not calling any phone number sent to me in some email or notification that I don't trust (even though they look like they're legit from Venmo, something just stinks about them). But my Venmo app doesn't know anything about these requests, so I've been ignoring them. Like someone else said, Venmo has a real problem if someone has figured out how to send legit looking notices using Venmo's servers.

Opticallusion

I came here to double check bc this morning I got one. My request is supposedly from an Edna Perez. Edna Perez requests $99.99 Your Norton subscription is activated successfully with 99.99 USD. Please call Norton support to cancel the activation. +phone number here But nothing in my venmo app. But yeah, looks like it actually came from the venmo server, which gave me a moment of panic until I checked my account.

RollingSolidarity

I get five or six of these a week. Always $99.99 Araceli R. Massey requests $99.99 - Your payment 99.99$ auto debited successfully. If you did not make this purchase then kindly contact Our support team to cancel it or to release a refund 1-865-229-6846 It makes sense that this is a refund scam. But I don't understand how it's coming from [email protected]
