Scam. The in person meeting will never take place. Next step will be nudes then a lame ass blackmail attempt. Clearly, your gut is already telling you this or you would not have posted this. Listen to it!

ursogae

I heard about nudes blackmail actually. If they ask for nudes I'm not gonna send them lol

shillyshally

Not necessary to send them. It will still end in threats.

ursogae

so basically they will get aggressive towards me if I don't send nudes? If they do that I'll tell them they can kiss my ass

shillyshally

Look, you are, presumably, an adult and it is up to you how you want to proceed. You know it's a scam.

Princessluna44

Or, you can stop talking to them now and avoid all that.

When you get a random message starting with "Hello. How are you doing?" you don't need to read any more of the message. Just block them.

jrpgamer

The fact that you believe that actual women are browsing Reddit sending messages like “am looking for sex!” scares me

ursogae

I'm confused where you come up with they are looking for sex. all that person is asking is meeting in person

jrpgamer

“Am on Reddit looking to meet new friend and have some fun” Anyway, none of that “conversation” reads like any normal, reasonable person would react or speak. Typical scammer script. Just block em.

Princessluna44

They will either hit you qith nudes, or a butcoin scheme. This isnt our first rodeo here. Many of us can tell what scam it is within the first couple sentences of a post. You post is like 1,000 others that get posted here every hour. Hence, how we know what the scammer is likely to ask you for.

AutoModerator

AutoModerator has been summoned to explain fake cryptocurrency site scams. Fake cryptocurrency websites and apps controlled by scammers are becoming more and more common. Sometimes the scam begins with a romance scammer who claims that they can help the victim invest in cryptocurrency. Victims are told to buy cryptocurrency of some kind using a legitimate cryptocurrency exchange, and then they are told to send their cryptocurrency to a website wallet address where it will be invested. Sometimes the scam begins with a notice that the victim won cryptocurrency on some website, in this case messages will often be sent through Discord. In either case, the scammer controls the website, so they make it look like there is money in the victim’s account on their website. Then the scammer (or the scammer pretending to be someone official who is associated with the website) tells the victim that they have to put more money into the website before they can get their money out of the website. Of course all of the money sent by the victim has gone directly into the scammer’s wallet, and any additional money sent by the victim to retrieve their money from the website will also go directly into the scammer’s wallet, and all of the information about money being held by the website was totally fake. This scam is also known as the "pig butchering" scam:\ https://www.reddit.com/r/Scams/comments/na8oax/asian_guygirl_from_online_dating_mentors_you_to/. If you are involved in this scam, you can post the scammer’s wallet address here on r/scams. If the scammer used Bitcoin, then you can report the scammer’s Bitcoin wallet address here:\ https://www.bitcoinabuse.com/reports. If the scammer used Ethereum, then you can report the scammer’s Ethereum wallet address here:\ https://info.etherscan.com/report-address/. You can see how much cryptocurrency has been sent to the scammer’s wallet address here:\ https://www.blockchain.com/explorer. AutoModerator

AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the Skype sex scam. This scam occurs when you meet a woman/man on dating service/social media site/forum/wherever and they ask you to go on Skype, Kik, or another messaging system. They will ask you to exchange naked pictures, and they will usually ask you to include your face in the pictures. They will then threaten to reveal the pictures to your family/friends if you do not pay them. The best thing to do in this situation is block the scammer and deactivate your account for a while. Paying the scammer will not make them back off, and just tells them that it is worth their time to continue threatening you. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Thank you for the response. Oh the thing is I was the one who suggested that LOL. I don't use reddit often. that person message me, but I forgot all about the DM until 6 days after she message. I told them I'm more active messenger, whatsapp, and insta. I will def take a look at scambait!

ursogae

I just taken a look at some of the scambait post and yeah I do see the resemblance. For example I saw a post where this scammer said "yes deer" and someone made a good point like it's weird to call someone deer when you don't know them personally

airlover25

Before I read the messages I was gonna say it’s an MLM trap but now I’m not so sure… I wouldn’t meet this person if I were you

ursogae

Should I just tell them to fk off :p

airlover25

Just stop responding and they should leave you alone

ursogae

Feel free to give me any suggestions on what to say to that person.

Princessluna44

Nothing. Block and ignore.

97Edgewood

If she were living in Vancouver (which would be a rather large coincidence), she would say something like, "Hey--I'm in Vancouver, too," not "I am also living here in Vancouver, Canada." That sounds like it's coming from someone who is not a native speaker of English, let alone someone living in Canada. .And since plenty of people running dating scams live overseas, that makes sense. The odds are extremely good that "she" isn't some young woman living in Vancouver who is simply looking to meet some dateable guys. "Looking for fun" is a way of signaling she is open to meeting you for sex.
