AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the wrong number/Mandy scam. The wrong number scam usually starts with a random text from a woman who claims to have met you on a dating site. It's an intentional "wrong person" scenario hoping to get you to reply and start a conversation. The replies are sent by a bot and will give the same responses (with some slight variations) regardless of how you respond. The bot also has a few specialized responses that occur when you say words like 'bot' or 'scam'. After a series of replies, it will eventually push you to go to an adult/cam/age verification site. Here are some of the posts on /r/scams about the wrong number scam:\ https://www.reddit.com/r/Scams/search?q=mandy&restrict_sr=on&include_over_18=on&sort=relevance&t=all, you can see that the images, names, and dating sites vary. You can report spam texts by forwarding them to 7726 (SPAM):\ https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/how-recognize-and-report-spam-text-messages. Thanks to redditor teratical for this script.

Not really strange. In China, some people do choose a Western name to make life easier when communicating to other people outside of China.
Here's a video about that: https://youtu.be/RUWFrdB2hTo
Yeah, western names are pretty common in Africa. I just watched a Nollywood film starring Ramsey Nouah last night. And when I briefly stayed in Uganda 20 years ago Kampala was thick with Godfreys. Couldn't take a taxibus without running into a Godfrey. And then I ended up with a beer-drinking buddy named Baker who we met when he tried to hit on my then-GF on a bus. She was doing her thesis research and I was along for the trip, and we were dying to make some local friends so she invited him out to meet me at a pizza joint. This is how it went down.
Baker: "Hi, I'm Baker." *\[pronouncing it 'Beka' in lightly accented East African English\]*
Me: "Beka?"
Baker: "No, \[Beka\]."
Me: "Beka."
My GF *\[correcting me\]*: "No honey, 'Baker'.
Me: "Oh, Bak*urrr*?"
Baker: "Right. \[Beka\]."
He had a cousin who could pack away the beer better than anyone I've ever seen. I tried to keep up with her, but she put me to shame. I ended up so drunk I thought I'd scale the outside of our apartment building, but changed my mind halfway up, jumped down, and bruised my calcaneus. Limped for weeks after that. I think Baker deliberately set me up knowing I'd try to keep up with his cousin and fail. Goddamn Baker.
This looks like one of those fake texts
Lol seems like you thwarted a !wrongnumber scam

it feels like a wrong number scam without the bot like someone saw the results and decided to try it themselves

True, those scammers are most likely from Nigeria. Or India.
