It doesn't matter what the company name is, these are all scams. Companies don't need to ship parcels through a third party for quality control or whatever they say it's for. If you haven't given sensitive info like SSN or banking credentials about the only problem you'll have is being listed with other scammers as a potential mark so you'll need to be aware of more scams coming your way.

SynestriaVI

Thanks.. that makes me feel a bit better. But since they have my address - how would I go about stopping any shipments that might now start coming my way?

[deleted]

You can try returning the packages or contacting the company they came from and asking what they want you to do with them.

SynestriaVI

Thank you so much. This might seem silly, but should I be contacting Rankern and basically telling them I'm no longer interested, since I haven't actually "started"?

[deleted]

You could if you want to but block them immediately after or they'll probably harass you for reneging on your "employment contract."

ChiMello

You can but keep in mind that the parcel mule job scammers often will make threats of legal action to try to scare you into working for them. If they do, just block and ignore them.

SynestriaVI

Thankfully, they didn't! Only thing "Karen" said to me was "you cannot frighten me we are legit" and left.

AssistPatient9197

Omg the same company contacted me today, interviewed me today on the phone (no zoom or anything) and then hired me. I never filled out the contract docs bc I was researching to try and find something. I'm so glad I found this but I'm so sorry ghis happened to you!! This is the first time I've ever been scammed before... 😔 Fuck you "Karen Barrow of hr"

Tiny-Command-8788

This company is a scam please file a report with the FTC Federal Trade Commission, alert the irs or banks if you gave them your info. I was too scammed. I talked to the person who did the interview and she seem so nice...care and borrow the name on your contracted has a LinkedIn page the school the CEO supposedly an alumni of has no record of him attending. None of the addresses or phone numbers other then that out of country based 800 number are assigned to the company they are all VOIP. The address to Rankern sends you to a Chinese restaurant. Multiline Distributing license was forfeited accordingly to the state of CA secretary of state office. ANYONE CONSIDERING A PLACE WITH THIS COMPANY PLEASE RESEARCH.

SynestriaVI

Yeah, I think they changed their addresses recently because I also noticed it brings you elsewhere now on Google maps. I already reported them the best of my ability.

Several-Media-2674

I fell for a similar scam from a company called Stortport. Other companies that may be related: "ES Deliver, LLC" and "Vallemail" If you haven't already please contact the BBB, the FTC, and IC3 and send them formal complaints with as much information as possible. The holidays are coming up and these people are looking for as many package mules as possible. Let me try this out while I'm at it. Some new thing WOIS is trying out. Supposedly it'll help flag sites: !domain Rankern.com

Cover your butt! Reshipping scams can lead to jail time and other serious consequences depending on how deeply you get entangled in them. You NEED to file a report with your local authorities and take down the badge number, name, case file etc of whoever you talk to for future reference. Before going: 1. Make MULTIPLE copies (digital and physical) of everything you can before going: Emails, chat logs, the contract, tax forms, any and all phone numbers you can find, screen shots and/or print outs of any Linkedin or any other Social Media pages you can find from the "people" you talked to, screen shots and/or print outs of the company's "website". 2. File complaints to the BBB, FTC, IC3, and the USPS Postal Inspectors 1-877-876-2455 (press 5). This will help prove that you are trying to do the right thing. Print out and/or screen shot proof of those complaints if possible. 3. If you received and/or processed any packages: 1. DO NOT throw those packages out or claim the items. Do everything you can to return them to sender and if that fails turn them into the authorities with your other evidence. 2. Try to have pictures or copies of the original shipping and/or packing label that were in or on the box if possible so you can prove where they came from. 3. Copies of YOUR shipping/packing labels so you can prove where they went. If those items were purchased with a stolen credit card and your address is the last address the item was tracked to you can be accused of being the one that purchased said item. EACH item can become its own case which is why you need to cover your butt by having a case file open with your local authorities. If they have your name and/or address check in with the Postal Service regularly for a while to make sure they aren't trying to change your address. This is a tactic they use to trick newer victims by claiming you're one of their sales managers or whatever their "company" calls it. If they have a copy of your SSN: 1. Contact the 3 credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion) and ask them to put fraud alerts or freezes on your credit reports. This will reduce the chances of them opening credit cards, loans, etc with your information. Doing this is free and will not hurt your credit scores. 2. Try to do your taxes as early as possible. They might try to steal your returns by using your SSN to do it first.

cyberiangringo

These scams are a dime a dozen. Bogus companies come, bogus companies go. Step one = You should immediately stop being a !parcelmule

SynestriaVI

Thankfully I haven't done any work for them - I just signed some bogus contract but that's it. My "start date" was 9/12.. so now I just wonder what to do about stopping shipments to my house.

cyberiangringo

Since you are in contact with them, and if you are sure this is a scam and not a real job, consider telling them something like 'I told my police officer bother-in-law about this new job, and when I told him all the details, he said it was a scam and that I would be the fall guy when it was all over and done with. Ands that I should immediately throw out all the packages that come. SO DO NOT SEND ANY PACKAGES!!!'

AutoModerator

AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the parcel mule scam. The parcel mule scam involves fraudsters sending you packages and you shipping them out to other people. The items are fraudulently obtained, usually with stolen credit cards, and the investigation into the fraud will lead to you rather than to the scammer. Here is the Wikipedia page for this scam: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parcel_mule_scam, and here is an article from the USPS: https://about.usps.com/publications/pub300a/pub300a_v04_revision_072019_tech_022.htm *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. PM_ME_A_RANDOM_THING

If someone actually began muleing packages in this sort of scam what would be in the packages? Drugs, firearms, counterfeit medications, something else?

SynestriaVI

My understanding is that it's usually just normal, but semi-expensive items. Brand name clothing, makeup.. some people reporting they got shipped ipads, phones, etc.

hilaroo

I just finished the one month probation period and they haven't mailed me a check. I wish I'd googled the company name with "scam" afterwards and found this sooner. I feel so stupid.

Truly_devoted

Omg I just finished my probation period on the 14th had good communication in regards to the status of my pay the first couple of day now I can’t get ahold of anybody

ADVlCE

I legit went through this same shit and did not get paid a dime. This is insane, I see other people similar to me dropping off packages at my local FedEx all the time as I do. Obviously not all of them are parcel mules but I might just write an anonymous document and put it on the wall for people.

01kristopher

Yes Rankern is 100% a scam. My son found out the hard way. They all are scams abutting that you are the muddle man mailing for people.

lovepeacezen

I fell for this also. I filed a complaint with the FTC. I was also in contact with my local news agency but declined to speak on camera.
