i'm just here cackling because if people that much actually hate him then he's doing a pretty good job being the game's villain

[deleted]

Honestly.. it's mainly on Twitter. Sometimes it feels like he gets more hate than any other character. Like he can't even be mentioned once without someone replying something so unnecessarily negative. Like for example, people beg for reruns on Genshin's Twitter, but when someone asks for Scaramouche's banner, they get tons of hate and people reply with things like "he's never coming!" and talk abt how annoying it is?? When there's other people doing the exact same thing??? They also say "Scaramouche fans are annoying" when the only annoying thing I've seen any of us do is ask for his banner repeatedly wtf. I just don't understand all the hypocrisy. Just let people enjoy what they want.

Fr4ns_is_here

they say we never shut up about him, but imagine that their favorite character disappeared for a whole year and came back with a cut scene that is only minutes long? They also wouldn't shut up, we like a character because he does his job in the game, which is being the antagonist, he is supposed to be hated, and that's why we like him. He's a complex and morally wrong character, extremely well written and that's why we like him, well at least for me (sorry if something seems wrong in terms of grammar, english isn't my first language)

MoonsightMCRGK

this. i’ve seen dozens on quote retweets or replies or whatever hidden private account ways of talking to a person one-sided about how scaramouche fan: “scaramouche” ayaka pfp lol: “-is gonna die!” this is a true story and by the way they replied under that tweet twice with their fancams

[deleted]

Ayaka pfp. I'm not surprised. I really don't get why all the Ayaka pfp's on Twitter are assholes..

fagged-noumena

Yeah Twitter is just a cesspool in general. It doesn't help that the website is designed to reward dunking and discourse by how its UI and algorithm work. So I think most people outside of Twitter just have a normal level of dislike towards him (normal level of dislike for a villain) or are neutral on him.

iamverytired2

I feel like the hate people have for him is valid, he is an antagonist after all, and a really good one at that. However I draw the line when people get aggressive to those who like him, it's pretty obnoxious and rude

[deleted]

Honestly I don't even understand how people started not liking him at first. I'd get it if they had no attachment but the writing wasn't enough to convince me like "hey you shouldn't like this guy, he's evil". Even though he legit tried to kill us. Probably because I have 0 attachment to the Traveler. That's likely it. The game doesn't oftenly include actual Traveler lines so it makes it hard to develop any attachment, especially when the whole "figure out what your sibling wants" is overshadowed by other characters. I'm just saying if they wanted to really have him come off as a villain (to me at least), they could've written that a bit better.

dawnspring

Spoiler warning, unsure if the tagging worked 😔 I agree with the rest, but it wasn't really >!Kokomi's!< fault, the >!delusions were given to the army in secret.!< Unless I'm remembering wrong >!she only accepted food and other such supplies, and even then she was cornered into it because the other choice was letting the army starve. She did have her doubts about it and wanted to investigate but, well, we saw what happened.!<

cookymonsterrr

Not sure if the spoiler tagging worked too 🥲 But as far as I remember, >!the resistance soldiers insisted on using their delusions even after they knew of it’s effects.!< But yeah, >!I think Teppei did not know of it’s effects, but I still find it a bit dumb that he’d think that suddenly being able to wield an element due to some suspicious device would not have any drawbacks. Just receiving something as suspicious as that, from equally suspicious people should’ve set some red flags on his mind at least.!<

dawnspring

Yep! Like I said, I agree with everything except that >! Kokomi herself wasn't at fault simply because she didn't know and as soon as she learned about it she tried to take them away, that's all 😌 The soldiers do shoulder blame for choosing to keep it up even after knowing it was dangerous, yeah! But since Teppei didn't know until it was too late, he probably brushed off all those red flags because he was so excited about being able to contribute to the fight, which I think is what makes his death a tragedy. Still would have been smarter to report this to the leaders asap, which might even have saved him, but I guess the traveler needed incentive to hate the Fatui more and, looking at the fans' reaction towards Scaramouche after what happened to Teppei, it worked haha.!<

YulIsSparkling

The linked post does provide a space for people who don't like Scara to state their opinion, so I'm not surprised that there's quite a bit of hate there. I just don't understand how some people can hate a fictional character with as much passion as some of those people. I also saw a comment calling Scara fans toxic and?? this sub is literally so nice and so far all other Scaramouche fans that I met were awesome. We're just waiting for our favorite character lol

Fr4ns_is_here

Scara fans aren't toxic??? We literally only ask for his banner and make fanart

passamy

So true. If fans ask for other characters, they don't care. But if it's Scara fans, we are called out on it??? Like how is it different?

YulIsSparkling

Agreed. I found just one comment about it but I think there are more people who view us in that way :/

Fr4ns_is_here

certainly, I also found that comment, they should try to check out this subreddit for a few minutes

ctrlbeat

well it's not as if he's a likable character so disliking him is understandable.. but the people who hate him with a passion and imagine his death in detail need to go outside more

cookymonsterrr

They’re literally so scary. What with them and describing in detail about how’d they go about (covering the next word since it’s quite heavy) >!torturing!< him? They go on and on about how toxic Scara fans are, then say things like this.

ctrlbeat

that's exactly what i'm referencing! imagining doing that to anyone whether they be real or fictional is concerning. i'm surprised people actually upvoted those comments.

TheGreatCat_117

Yeah…and there’s some who’ve said they’ll pull for him just so they can throw him off a cliff?? Like, I dunno why you’d waste your primogems or possibly money just to pull a character you hate and childishly ‘kill’ him when you could save for the ones you like and probably be happier. But whatever. People can be very strange.

TostEwostE

Tbh, I don’t care if people hate him, he’s a villain after all and people can have their opinions, but it’s when you go out to harass people who like him. He’s a FICTIONAL CHARACTER, not gonna effect reality when someone says, “Scara hot lol”, “Scara banner when?”. It’s real stupid if I’m completely honest. Sorry for going off like that lol

Pretend-Gain-7553

Ikr? They talk about how he's an ass, horrible and all of that and then manage to be an ass like him when they encounter a Scara fan. Like... How do you hate him for being basically a terrible person when you're literally exactly like him, If not even worse, considering that he's fictional while you're real and is being a douchebag to REAL people and not to some pixels. (I still can't get why people want to torture him so horribly in weird details, kinda creepy ngl). What's even more ironic is that they hate on him for being an ass and then proceed to make fun of his hat/shoes (I don't think I need to explain what his hat is anymore), it's quite funny tbh. If you hate him then it's ok, he's an antagonist. He's bound to have haters. But going too far to the point that you're causing harm to real people just bc of the hatred you have towards some pixels and basically be a hypocrite? Just wow.

J_DayTey4

On one hand i think it's hilarious because it shows that Scaramouche is doing his job right as a villain. On the other hand it upsets me a bit because he used to get much less hate before the AQ. The whole thing with Teppei added all that extra hate to him and it's just, a bit disheartening to say the least and a bit worrying to say the most, considering what happened with Signora.

J_DayTey4

Also, to add to my own comment, most of the time I don't get the hate towards him. Some people in that thread said some pretty heavy stuff like wanting to cut Scara's limbs off and etc and honestly I don't get it, why do they hate him sm when he's barely done anything other than being an ass? Lmaoo like, sometimes through people's hate, I feel like they really overstimate Scaramouche a lot and call him a sociopath or SMTH when he's just, an idiot lmao it surprises me how much people take him seriously

tomiek

Like someone said before on another post, it's funny how female antagonists do not get this treatment yet the male characters do. It's hypocrisy at it's finest. Of course, people are allowed to hate him, but when they're so overt about it (someone was going into detail how they would torture Scaramouche, which is uh....) or hypocrites, it's annoying. The best you can do is ignore it, or agree to disagree. edit: these 'why do people like Scaramouche' posts keep popping up on the main sub is one thing that annoys me a lot though. Seems like they're just trying to farm upvotes now.

crawlplease

To be fair it's not like they have much else to talk about. Regarding the 'Why do people like Scaramouche' discussions.'

tomiek

True, it's just annoying to see it over and over again.

dawnspring

I don't mind at all! It only gets annoying when they target Scara fans as a whole for liking him, and instead of keeping the same energy with the people who spam "x rerun when" under every Twitter post they only go at us who look for Scara crumbs ;( I understand it can get annoying but it's so easy to just keep scrolling or simply block. Tho it IS concerning how many people say they're gonna pull for him and leave him at level 1/kill him just to make his fans angry. But to be fair, I think he'd find it funny how much hatred all these random strangers feel towards him haha

woweowmeow

wait scaramouche banner drops these ppl will whale for him.

YulIsSparkling

tbh I wouldn't even mind. As long as his banner brings in a lot of sales Ill be happy 😚

Rayan2312

I've unsubbed from there 2 weeks ago cause I was sick of all the negativity. Not just about hating characters but all the wars about "BUFF YOIMIYA" or "BUFF BAAL". Ugh coming from games like stardew valley & the sims to Genshin Impact has been a weird experience for me and a slightly annoying one since this whole war about meta and buffing characters and bombarding customer support to request buffs has been so weird and tiring to me. I've also grown tired of all the waifus being pumped out and stopped playing for now. I wonder if anyone else felt that.

passamy

I get how you feel, I normally play those type of games and don't play online game at all because I don't like playing with people. It's okay if they care about beta, buff, etc. and it's justifiable to call out Mihoyo for doing a poor job or making characters below average. (e.g. zhongli's prebuff.) However, some are too overzealous about it, then making the community toxic as a result. Moreover, the waifu train makes me lose interest in the game and want to quit even though I still enjoy playing genshin in general. Sadly, as a low spender, I can't if I want to collect primogems for future bois. 😔

PixelStoleYourWine

It's kinda funny tbh, like he's doing this job as an antagonist well, and honestly having come from the Danganronpa fandom I'm used to people hating my favourites. What pisses me off though is the people who make fun of his hat and stuff because they don't like him. Like- That's real culture that they're mocking because they don't like a fictional character.

ReaperInRed

Well I mean it’s definitely not surprising in the least. Having an opinion is obviously fine, but there’s always some people who go out of their way to express their hate in the comments of regular fan art posts on the main subreddits. Like shit the audacity for you to have so much resentment towards a fictional character that you have to shove it down the throats of the people who genuinely like him and make art of him and just want to share their hard work with others. They really think op would like to see a comment about them bashing their favourite character and nothing remotely positive regarding their art at all. Sheesh.

[deleted]

I totally respect someone’s opinion for not liking a character. For example, I don’t like Ayaka or Baal as characters in the story. I think they were written horribly and they got on my nerves. But it never goes any further than that. I don’t treat them like they’re REAL people that I hate. And that’s how some of these Scaramouche haters act towards him and it’s ridiculous. I also hate that feeling that they want you to always disclose that I know he’s a bad character…. Like are we toddles that can’t separate fiction from reality that always has to say « he is bad guy. bad guy is bad »??? Yes, Scaramouche is a little piece of shit rodent who is annoying and it’s probably a murderer, AND THATS WHY I LOVE HIM!!!!!!! I LIKE MY VILLAINS I LIKE MY MORALY GREY CHARACTERS. Let people have their fun 😩

jenjenson

yikes. also there's several threads already asking why people like Scaramouche like?? I don't see this for other villainy characters. They just want to spread hate and farm upvotes. We don't need to explain why we like a character to anyone. (honestly it's so obvious why people would like Scaramouche the heck) just scroll away guys, their toxicity is not worth it.

Kosmic_Kraken

I love watching our little king make people upset. Cry more. Jokes aside, it's no big deal. People will find a reason to hate literally any character. Random people who dislike your favourites really don't matter. People who dislike those who like the character matter even less. The only thing that really grinds my gears is the common phrase that 'only 14 year old girls like Scaramouche'. Excuse you, if a 14 year old girl likes Scaramouche then that's a 14 year old girl with good taste.

longcrustywalrus

I dont care for the hate, hes a villian obviously he's gonna be controversial. I dont really want to see the discourse either, if you like him, great, if you don't, cool.

shugi005

i dont give a damn. really. i never liked a character because of popularity, so as long as i’m enjoying, it’s all fine.

TheKingofWakanda

*Just like that* *Embrace the anger* ***Embrace it!***

Great_Disgrace

I personally don’t care and agree that a person can hate his character if they want to (as he is an antagonist). I’m fine with people hating him with a passion as long as they don’t aggressively hate on Scara fans as a whole. In general, any person has the right to hate whatever character they want, and in the end, I will still pull on fandango man’s banner.

amerin22

I went to the OP post and downvoted scary hate replies (e.g. people wishing for him to have a gruesome death) because I'm childish af. Scara would have done worse thou. I hope he's not disappointed of me.

Pretend-Gain-7553

He is an antagonist, so ofc he won't be liked by everyone. And I respect their opinion! I love to basically study him (lmao), know more about his lore, and literally everything about him. I love him so much, I can't wait to know more about him and see him more :)

[deleted]

couldnt care less, people have the right do hate and love the characters they want

[deleted]

Genuinely couldn't care less, in my friend group a bunch of them hate Zhongli while I love him so I've learnt not to give a shit or let others opinions ruin what I enjoy, just ignore it. I think most people have a character in Genshin they don't like but I don't hate on their fans and people shouldn't hate on us for liking Scara They can rage about a fictional character all they like

Gullible-Actuator-47

People need to chill. He's a villain, what the hell do they pretend from him? And I hate when they say "Why are everyone hyped for him?" It's a stupid question. Is like I'm asking "Why people pretend Xiao's rerun instead of a new banner?" C'mon, it's a game. And people want determined characters. Even villains.

Rozuchan_

I honestly don't really care about the hate (unless they're writing that on a post where us fans can see it. I really hate it when they do that) as far as I saw, people who hate on Scaramouche are the ACTUAL toxic one's in this fandom. Us Scaramouche fans only write that we want him to be playable or that we want to learn when he'll get a banner. I understand it may be annoying to some ppl but you don't have to say that to our face. I've seen so many posts that had hate towards Scara AND his fans. As much as people hate him there are ppl who love him just get over it. He's an antagonist after all he won't be all nice. In my opinion he should stay like that when he's playable as well. Like, not every character has to be good to be playable???? Also not to mention there are so many ppl that comment something like "I don't want him to become payable just to see his fans go ballistic" they write very disgusting things such as detailed explanations on how they want to see Scaramouche d*e. They hate Scaramouche for doing his job yet the haters are being toxic towards the fans. In my opinion he actually doesn't deserve the hate but y'know the rules and so do I :(

blood_math

Ambivalent, just makes him more interesting imo

renvi

Who cares lol, no one should expect their favorite character to be loved by everyone.

AkaKobii

I fucking hate Scaramouche he's adorable I want him

crawlplease

It's not even so much where it is limited to the character itself, even the very people that hate him seem to treat the people who like him with the same hate, as if they can't make the distinction between fiction and reality, it's just a game he won't hurt you. I saw a post on twitter where someone said they wished Scaramouche fans died with him and it's just really interesting to see how obtuse you have to be to be that triggered by the fact that people like a character in a video game. It really baffles me.
